These base are design to fence of 60" and less, 8 feet post are too high. I would recommend that you pour your post into concrete which is the best solution for 8 feet high post.

I used the spike to install a post lamp. Fairly rigid, but still wobbles a bit. A slightly longer version would be better for that.
