can you use this trowel for 6x24 tile
      ByMar 30, 2024
      1 Answer |
      Answer This Question

For 6x24 tile, the preferred recommended trowel size is 1/2"x1/2"x1/2" SQ. The 1/4"x3/8"x1/4" SQ would also work. Also, we do recommend applying a thinset skim coat to the back of the tile with the flat side of the trowel before you set the tile. Customer Care

The recommended size trowel depends on the size of the tile. The QEP 1/2" x 1/2" x 1/2" sq trowel is used for natural stone, quarry, pavers, saltillo and ceramic tiles up to 12" x 12" and larger. Customer Care

                    Answer This Question

                      (2)

Yes. Smaller notches may also work. Generally, size of notches determines how much mortar is under the tile. Final height of mortar, after tile is placed, is one half the notch height, so for a floor you might adjust mortar height for alignment of tile with adjoining flooring. You can also adjust height of mortar by the angle of holding the trowel - 45 degrees versus 90 degrees, which changes mortar thickness. Good idea to set one tile and then lift it to inspect fir proper mortar coverage.

Very comfortable handle and nice tool
You might think a trowel is a trowel but this one really is the best one. The handle is soooo comfortable. It has a slight angle to it instead of being horizontal with the plain of the trowel. This really reduces hand and wrist fatigue. For the handle itself, i rate this five stars. Sometimes it just makes sense to upgrade and not keep using the same worn-out tool. I am glad I got this.

                                Euro Notch Trowel
The stainless steel trowel was shipped in a timely manner. Qep has a handel and color scheme that reminded me of Irwin products. Qep trowel is lite weight and sturdy. The only thing that I have a hard time is with the Euro Notch that is waves instead of just squared out like American Notch’s are. The coverage of 95-99 percent is great. It’s easy to clean up as well when you are done.

                                Different yet efficient
The teeth are different than most I've seen, but it does the job. Never used a trowel with curved teeth, but don't let that stop you. It worked very well spreading thinset for large format tile (24x48). Nice gripping handle that's open on one end vs. the u-shaped style. It's easy to clean with just water. Overall this is a very nice trowel for DIY'ers.

                                The handle is epic!
I’m so worried about not getting enough coverage of thinset on both back-buttering and also on either the walls. I don’t tile often but when I do I want to do it right the first time. It’s so important! This trowel is amazing. The handle itself is worth it. My hand won’t get as tired as with my usual trowel plus it has a non-slip rubber on it making it easier to use. The notches take out all the bubbles leaving very uniform lines of thinset making it obvious it will definitely adhere the tile down. This trowel is recommended for large tiles.

                                Trowel works great!
This euro style trowel works well. The different design helps prevent getting gaps between the tile and substrate. I still back buttered the tiles and troweled the mortar like normal. Everything set up nicely. I’m very happy with this. It seems like good quality and has been working well for me so far. I’m not a professional tiler, I just do it from time to time when I need to and this has worked out well for me.

Using this trowel for thin set adhesive on a shower floor. While this trowel was primarily designed for large tiles, I am trying it on thick mesh mounted mosaic tile I ordered. This Euro Notched pattern will give me the flexibility on varied depts I will need. Great stainless-steel finish and the cushioned handle are make for easy clean up and comfort.

                                Great Euro Style Notched Trowel
Please note that this is Euro Notched tile trowel. This is not a regular 1/4" notched trowel. This is for tile that is 24"X24" or larger especially for 24'X48 tile. It is well made, and DEP is well known brand in the industry. The trowel cleans up easily and does not rust. The handle is comfortable and is strong and made to last for a long, long time.

I have to say, I don't expect tools to be as well thought out as this trowel. The handle is super comfortable, cushiony, and provides a nice gripping surface. For reference I take a women's size medium glove; I think the handle would work great for men's hands as well. The notches on this trowel would make it perfect for larger tile applications.
