Questions & Answers

What is the smallest size will it cut off

Asked by: CJEJ
I struggled trying to cut 3 3/4 inch strips off 12 by 24 inch tiles. Wasted few pieces of tile. The cutter was brand new and I've worked many years with tile. So I don't think it was me. I'm giving the cutter one more once.

QEP 36 in. Slimline Professional Tile Cutter is rated 4.0 out of 5 by 102.
Rated 3 out of 5 by from For Floor Planks? I purchased this to cut some 12x24 porcelain tile for the walls of a shower. It didn't turn out to be appropriate.First off, it never really seemed to sit squarely. Okay, compensate for that by aligning both ends of the cut with the blade. But even that didn't work as the blade simply likes to drift, largely caused by applying too much downward pressure on the arm, thus distorting the frame and cutter rails. So there's this magic point of applying enough pressure to get a good score, but not so hard that it distorts the entire cutter. I couldn't find that balance and getting a clean, square cut repeatedly didn't seem feasible. So I'm going to return it.BUT!I think this tile cutter would probably be a quick and easy, no mess solution to cutting flooring planks where any slop in the cut is just going to be covered with baseboard anyhow. So for that kind of job, I think this would work superbly and would highly recommend this over wet ripping the length of an entire room or hallway.

Disclaimer, I do not regularly cut tile or install tile. I do on occasion lay tile down in low visibility areas like our laundry room behind 2 doors that are normally closed. Typically the most difficult aspect has been to cut tile to complete installation around door jams or to shorten a tile to fit at the end of my installation. At first I was skeptical of the tile cutter because of my lack of experience. The user manual/instructions are poor at best. My test cut was on a 2' x 1' large tile. I added a piece of wood underneath on the end to provide a solid support surface. I started using the little cutting wheel and moving the handle back an forth. The wheel started gauging the tile in a nice straight line. I kept doing this until I thought I had a good groove. I re-positioned the handle to place the rubber drop plate on either side of the groove and pressed down. It split right down the groove with a nice straight edge. Success

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Broke every other tile I bought this cutter to do a small tile job ion my bathroom after seeing such positive reviews. I purchased 24x12 porcelain tiles The cutter would snap the tile in random places after scoring . I changed my technique many times as well reviewed the instructions and online videos . I feel it may be porcelain is the issue as I see another negative comment and they to used porcelain .

Purchased QEP24 to cut tile that my tile saw couldn't, it only cuts up to 21" tile & the tiles are 24".The cuts made by the QEP24 are rough and jagged edges. I would not recommend to use if you are a perfectionist and prefer the smooth cuts of powered tile saw.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Too inconsistent on large tile We were cutting 1x2ft porcelain tiles and the long cuts proved too much for the cutter with rip cuts. Too many chips and inconsistent lines. We followed directions to the letter. Wasted way too many tile pieces and went and bought a wet saw.
