Thank you for your question Dave. Yes, this floor scraper can be used to help remove many types of dried carpet adhesive from hard surfaces such as concrete, wood, and other subfloors. Effectiveness may vary depending on the type of adhesive, its age, and how strongly it is bonded to the surface. For particularly stubborn or thick adhesive residues, additional removal methods or adhesive removers may be needed. Always test in an inconspicuous area first and follow all safety precautions during use.
The 8 in. Adjustable Razor Floor Scraper is designed for heavy-duty removal of materials like tile, adhesive, and carpet. We do not recommend using it on soft or polished hardwood floors. Because it uses a sharp steel razor blade, it can easily gouge the wood or leave “chatter” marks—even with careful handling. For a safer approach, we suggest using a plastic scraper or an appropriate chemical stripper (per the finish manufacturer’s guidance) paired with a non-abrasive pad to help protect the surface.

Occasionally, the screws vibrate and can become slightly loose due to the scraping action. A simple fix is to insert a lock washer beneath the screw head. A lock washers help keep blades secure under vibration. Alternatively, a flat washer can help distribute pressure and prevent loosening. Hello, while this tool will allow for the easy removal of carpet adhesive residue, vinyl, carpet, tile and other floor covering materials, surfaces that come in contact with this tool's metal blade will inevitably be scratched and/or chipped. This tool was designed for the aggressive removal of unwanted flooring and other materials, after which the preparation for a subsequent finished flooring will take place. If you are attempting to protect any pre-existing surface/flooring underneath the carpet adhesive, you may want to research alternative solutions.
