Can I use this on my front porch, and paint it when complete?

That,s exactly what I did and it turned out very nice. On the porch it may get slippery in the rain and snow so be careful.

I want to resurface a patio that is badly spalled and has previously been painted. The paint has chipped off in many places, but there is still paint over much of the surface. Can this product be used over the existing paint?
Asked by: ShastaG
I used this Quikrete Concrete resurfacer on outside concrete steps which were not painted. It stuck to the surface pretty good. You either power wash the surface to remove paint or test it on a small area to see if it sticks properly on painted surface or not. Thanks.

40 lb. Concrete Resurfacer is rated 2.5 out of 5 by 68.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Product Please dont listen to all of the bad reviews. I believe there is improper application error going on all around here. The product works as it is supposed to. However, it does leave a lot of blank spaces and even more questions unanswered that definitly arise before, during, and after pouring. I have purchased over 20 boxes of this stuff. Failing misersbly and suffering most if not more of the issues described in the many poor reviews. Choosing not to give up on this product, i tried and tried again until I got a system that works. Tools. You will need a squeegee. No matter what unless your project is very small and can do with a trowel. You will need to do the “optional second coat.” I have found that the end surface WILL crack no matter what. The second coat is to conceal. If youre not going to do the 2nd coat in my opinion dont even bother you will get poor results. A CLEAN bucket. No debree in the container. A mixer attachment for your power drill(you have one i imagine) .Surface preparation. It must be spotless clean. No debree not even pea size. If its there and you pour. Youre going to end up scraping it all off. I washed my floor with a regular hose and high jet nozzle. After it dried the following day. (I used the squeegee to get all of the sitting water off.) i meticulously vacuumed the floor to remove all of the debree and dust. Mixing. Follow the directions. It will be thick when you first mix. The required amount of water should not be altered. This is CORRECT. You will not be pouring in this consistency just wait 5 min after mixing, dont touch it. The air pockets will rise during this time. If you add too much water or you dont wait 5 min, your finished surface will have small holes. After 5 min mix for about one minute. NOW you can add water. I add water untill its the consistency of syrup. Im ready to pour, i dampen the existing surface with a mist nozzle. Until its somewhat glazed. Pour the material in a long line. PULL the squeegee toward you slowly from one end of the profect area to the other and back. Two passes is usually enough to get nice even coverage. As youre working the material it will lose moisture. And thicken. I add water ONCE to get it to the consistency of syrup again.( anymore than that and it will flake off when it dries. Move quickly with care for detail. Let it sit for about 6 hours. Sweep the floor to remove any dry pieces that are sticking out or above. Do the process again with a second coat. Then dont walk on it dont touch it for 48 hours. This process will give you the results you are expecting from this product. Wash your tools!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Directions misleading I was resurfacing my rear yard that had a few low areas that constantly held water I followed the directions on the first application. Too thick and hard to spread After this I added more water and found it applied easier Be ready to spread fast as the setup time is short

If your not going to get this professionally done it will not look professional. Ive used Quikrete products before to resurface my driveway and its not bad but doesn't look profession, but not bad. There is nothin self leveling with resurfacing. Hopefully it will last for a long time though. I find that if you use just a little bit more water, its easier to managed BUT it does take away some of the durability, I realize that. When you mix this stuff make sure you mix it for a good 5 minutes or it will separate before you finish, and it does dry quick so you need to work fast before it sets. I saw a picture on here where it showed allot of streaks, yeah, mine did that to. use a bit more water. Also, I find a trowel works pretty good if your doing it yourself. The squeegee takes a bit to get use to, and technique. Ive watched many youtube videos and when they pour it the mix looks more watery than when I mixed it so, there it goes to show that a little more water makes it easier to manage. Oh! a paint brush works really good if you make the mix watery, mine came out really nice and a white color to, BUT the dries fast so you have to work quick. Look at the picture on the concrete resurfacer bag, look at the mix as he puts it on the ground, it looks soupy a bit. Just my opinion to add a little bit more water. the color will come out lighter to. Ill tell you what, Id rather do this myself and do trial and error then to pay thousands of dollars for professional to do it. By the time you finish you would have spent maybe a few hundred doing it yourself. I can watch all the youtube videos I need and get this done so in my opinion a "paint brush" and "Trowel" works best for me. look at my pics and you can see the difference in tools I used and water I used. I do plan to do a second coat snd this time I will use the recommended 4 to 1 ratio BUT more water on the ground before I spread it out....good luck out there guys and and keep it going!

First batch mixed with 6 pints water and it was to thick added another pint and still was to thick. It would not stay agitated. I could not get a consistent mix from one bag to the next. I thought maybe it was old mix our it was damp at some point. I could not spread this out at all. I took the balance back. It does not look like the liquid image on the box.

My old driveway looks like I had a new driveway poured, in fact 2 people asked days later if it was a new pour. Its been 2 1/2 weeks and it still looks good, it is hard and is standing up to my F350, C2500 and my wife's car with no issues whatsoever. I will definitely use it again should the need arise.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great cost effective option Resurfaced a two car garage. Used one box mixed thickly to patch major flaws, then six boxes to resurface. Used concrete binder (glue) about 50-50 with water which I think helps. Looks great when it's done. Pretty darn smooth using a squeegie to apply. One major tip I highly recommend is to thin morethan suggested. The instructions suggest adding water sparingly. I suggest adding a quart or more extra and spray extra water whileapplying. When it is thin it spreads nicely but it will start to dry quickly and binds up making it very difficult to spread effectively. You won't get a perfectly smooth surface but keeping it thin while working helps. My garage was a mess and this did a great job. I coated afterward with rustoelum, not sure how tough it would be to traffic on its own.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from There is nothing "self-leveling" about concrete. I should have realized this early on but, had so... There is nothing "self-leveling" about concrete. I should have realized this early on but, had some confidence that there were people employed by Quickrete that knew what they were talking about. I thinned my mix even more so than what the directions stated because I could tell the consistency was way too thick to self-level. I poured it out and immediately distributed it around my floor. I had several puddles that remained and did not blend into others. I worked it feverishly with a paint roller in an attempt to blend it all in. The end result is I get the opportunity to try my hand at a concrete grinder to remove all of this crap. Don't waste your time with this product. IT DOES NOT WORK.
