QUIKRETE® ReCap Concrete Resurfacer must be permitted to cure for a full 30 days prior to the installation of epoxy based coatings. Premature coating can cause blistering of the coating and delamination of the epoxy.

Asked by Ab May 30, 2021

Answer

For an area of 49 square feet with an average thickness of ¾”, you will need 3 cubic feet of QUIKRETE® ReCap Concrete Resurfacer, or 9 40-pound bags. Please note – the product should only be applied in ¼” lifts, so several applications will be required to achieve the total thickness. Alternately, we recommend QUIKRETE® Sand/Topping Mix, which can be applied from 1/8” to 1-1/2” in a single application. If using this product, you will need 5 80-pound bags. We do recommend using QUIKRETE® Concrete Acrylic Fortifier as a partial water replacement for thin applications.

great product
We have some imperfections on our garage slab and this product gave a new life to the flat work we were able to smooth out the whole basement ~900 sqft with 21 bags, took us 3 hours total in two people. We will wait one week before we park on it hope it does not crack.

Great Alternative to replacement.
I started with a 50 year old driveway with totally exposed aggregate. I researched this product, and decided to take a chance. I'm glad I did. Do not omit over prepping your surface, I scrubbed it thoroughly with a strong concrete cleaner and then power washed every inch of the driveway. Prepping may take you much longer if you need to fill cracks or grind down high spots. Applying product goes very quickly.remember do it yourself does not mean do it by yourself. in my opinion you positively need a minimum of two people. what's the process begins one will spread material the other will prepare material so that there is a seamless flow. my job was 10 ft by 38 ft and it took me 45 minutes to apply product from finish to end.upon my experience I would recommend exactly three quarts of water per one bag of product, you must mix with a handheld power mixer, do not mix by hand you cannot achieve the correct consistency. my second recommendation if you have to you can use a squeegee to apply this product, a squeegee is extremely difficult to use around the edges of your surface. I would recommend using a trowel and knee pads if you can do that. I mixed the product let it sit for 3 minutes mixed it again for one minute and I came out with very consistent pancake batter like pourable mix. I began spreading immediately toward myself and continued until the bottom of the driveway was reached. if you want a broom finish you must stop every five or eight minutes and run your concrete room lightly over the surface.I have found this product so far to be fine and a fantastic alternative to replacement.

Waste of money
I purchased a large quantity of this product to fix a low spot in my concrete slab across a larger room. The product cracked and did not attach to the slab I poured it over within 3 days...It has broke loose and I'm pulling up pieces with my fingers. The product is brittle and brakes as easy as shell rock. DO NOT BUY!

I liked this product for what I wanted it for - but it set up a little too fast so I didn't get the smooth surface I wanted - I used it on top of stone pavers for an outdoor kitchen countertop - I got another bag and will put on another layer when the weather cools - the whole project will be on my youtube channel when done

Quikrete re cap
I’ve been in the masonry business for over 30 years and was never impressed with any overlay products until this. I used it today and porch and the workability was excellent. Finished beautifully and it was very economical, commercial overlays are so expensive it makes more sense to tear out the old concrete and replace it. I’ll be using this product for now on, excellent!

Did 1/2 of my driveway with the old quikrete resurface product (did a great job and was very happy), wasn't available anymore, went to newer quikrete recap. Took 2X as much, coverage wasn't as good and dried way too fast. The newer product needs more solids and less dryer agent. Would not buy this product again!! The driveway has two different looks, may have to resurface with another competitor to make it look right. Newer is not always better!!

This product is a bit finnicky. You need more water than instructions call for to make it pourable. Very thorough mixing and resting and more mixing is mandatory for color consistency. The finished surface is nice but I would recommend helping your buddy on their project before you jump into your own.

You will regret using this product
I used this product to resurface my garage floor. Following the directions exactly I rented an industrial diamond concrete grinding machine frome HD and removed all old paint and got down to fresh clean concrete. I did a very thourough surface prep. I thought surely anything will stick to that! I squeegeed two nice thick coats of this product per instructions (8 boxes worth) within 24 hours. We didnt walk or drive on it for first 3 days while it cured just to be on the safe side. At first it was like a new floor and looked great. But months have past and it is now eroding and chipping. The major problem is the product is simply breaking down. It is basically turning back into sand. We track sand into the house from the floor constantly. Each weekend i broom and hose, and so much product goes down the driveway.. its devistatingbto me. Price of product, Grinder Rental, and several days of prep/install time all a huge waste! Now I’m faced with having to rent that machine again and strip it back down and starting again. Hopefully the floor isnt permanently ruined. It had some cracks and a few spalled areas, but it was better then than it is now.. wish i could go back and take a different route! Please avoid this product.
