No, I would buy unmixed cement and tint it up to white for best results. Use smaller pea gravel to hold it together and rebar. Before it sets use a vibrating sander on frame edge to bring bubbles out.

what are the cold weather precautions? How cold can it be and still be used?

Asked by Jim December 5, 2017

Answers

The ideal temperature for applying QUIKRETE® Glass Block Mortar (No. 1610) is around 70 ºF. Below 50 degrees (but above 32 ºF), cold weather precautions must be taken: Store the bagged concrete in a warm temperature before use, and use warm (not hot) water to mix. Ensure that the concrete is protected from freezing for at least 3-4 days using plastic sheeting, insulated blankets, or other means. If these preventive measures cannot be taken, it would be best to wait for warmer weather.

I used this for mortaring joints on a thin brick wall around a wood stove. Did not want to use gray mortar. Very pleased with how this one came out. It can certainly be used for more than just glass block.

Very good product for the installation of Glass Block windows. Used to install two pre-assembled basement windows with excellent results. Consistency was correct for the application around the outside edge of the blocks, and was sufficient to make a sloped sill on each side of the windows.
