Questions & Answers

how many 80 pound bags of concrete will be need to fill a hole 18 square feet and two inches deep?

Asked by: boonie
18 S.F. x 2 Inches thick or 1/6 Ft. = 3 C.F. This equals to 3 x 0.6 = 2 bags of 80# concrete NOT 14 bags. I have 40 S.F. by 3 inch thick (1/4 Ft) area to be filled with concrete, which will take 6 bags of concrete. If I'm wrong in my figures, please let me know. can this be used to plug a small sink hole

can this be used to plug a small sink hole
Asked by: sally
Yes, but most people just use a small rubber plug, similar to the ones used for bathtubs. It isn't a permanent plug like the concrete, but then a lot of people find the removable feature of the rubber plug to be beneficial. Also, if you shop around, you may be able to find the drain plug priced cheaper than a bag of concrete, and it won't be as heavy or messy to work with. If you do go with concrete, however, remember to use rebar or steel mesh for reinforcement, you don't want the concrete to crack and let water out ( I think ).
