QUIKRETE® QUIKWall Surface Bonding Cement can be used to rehabilitate old concrete surfaces. The existing walls will have to be rigorously cleaned to remove any dust and loose material prior to installation, as these will act as a bond inhibitor. Mechanical fastening (lath) would be recommended if all of the dust and latent surface of the walls cannot be removed.

QUIKRETE® Quikwall Surface Bonding Cement (SBC) can be troweled smooth with a steel trowel. We recommend using a pool trowel with SBC, as they tend to leave less lap lines than a square ended trowel. We would recommend against using a wet sponge on the surface, as it will likely remove some of the surface paste which makes the SBC smooth.

The performance characteristics of QUIKWALL® SBC make it adaptable for rehabilitating and renovating existing wall surfaces. Old walls coated with QUIKWALL® SBC on one side will exhibit structurally improved environmental properties and a new aesthetic look. The use of QUIKRETE® Acrylic Fortifier with QUIKWALL® SBC is required when application is made to other than uncoated block wall surfaces. The installation of galvanized expanded metal lath may also be required for walls that have been previously painted or coated, or structural walls to which a cementitious modified system is not adaptable due to variations in thermal expansion.

QUIKRETE® Quikwall Surface Bonding Cement is applied at a minimum of 1/8” per layer; if the stamping form you wish to use can support layers this thin, it is appropriate.

QUIKRETE® Quikwall Surface Bonding Cement can be applied in a one-coat application; a second coat can optionally be applied after the first coat is thumbprint-hard (approximately 4-6 hours).

QUIKRETE® Quikwall Surface Bonding Cement can be used to damp-proof structures, when used with QUIKRETE® Concrete Acrylic Fortifier. Two coats at a minimum of 3/8” thick are required to be code compliant.

QUIKRETE® QUIKWall Surface Bonding Cement can be painted with a water based latex paint after a minimum of 7 days, or with an oil or an epoxy based paint after a minimum of 28 days after installation.
