Has this rainbarrel been re-designed to strengthen the back so the back doesnt bow out when full,...

I had 4 of these rain barrels and used them for about 2 years before moving. I did not have any issues with the backs blowing out. I lived in central WI so they were not exposed to excessive heat. I would drain them in the fall when the temps started to drop below freezing. My only issue was the supplied hose would start to leak a little so to save my water I had to secure them in an upright position when not in use.

How do you remove the plug where the drain hose is inserted? Have trie multiple methods to remove the plastic insert

We drilled mine so it runs into the top where they show the plants. Then drilled drainage holes in that part, put a screen in and river rocks. The rocks cover the tube.

I have not experienced the problem you describe. My neighbor has not either. Could your water barrel be defective? i. e. the materials. A slight freeze will not freeze an entire barrel of water and then distort the shape. The barrel is subtle and adds to my landscaping. I would call the manager of your store, or write a letter to their corporate office. Get an exchange. The barrel was a healthy financial investment. I hope this helps. Home Depot has been very cooperative with my concerns over the years.

Drill a hole with a spade bit in the desired location where rain chain will descend. Use a reciprocating saw to make larger hole if needed

Somewhat Dissappointed
Rain barrel works as stated. Nice look, exactly what we wanted. After hooked up and a nice steady rain, barrel filled half way and no longer sits flush to the wall. Dissappointed to see as I would have bought the round one cheeper. At least the round one is supposed to be round!!

We purchased this water barrel less than 2 years ago. Used it for 2 summers. Love the look, and seemed to work well besides the fact the backside bulged when full from the weight of the water. Also, last year the end of the hose starting leaking, so we had to replace. Recently my husband noticed water was leaking near our house. Upon further investigation, the bottom side is cracked...so disappointing, and the plastic on the bottom is so thin. Not thick enough to hold the weight of a full 50 gallons which we fill easily after a pouring rain. Now we have to figure out which one to replace it with :(

Easy to install. Hacksaw and a drill. Go ahead and get a stand and order a spigot - so you can access the collected water. Also, don’t plan on planting anything on top. Too shallow.

Installation was easy, fits nicely into my garden space. First time it rained though, the back of the urn bowed out, it was bulging on the back side once it filled with water. I have contacted the company directly and emailed pictures to them and am waiting for a reply.

After reading instructions I installed the barrel. Hardest part was cutting down the downspout! Everything is leveled and the tube is a straight line from the downspout to the barrel yet I get an air bubble in the tube and therefor the water doesn't go into the barrel.

I live in Colorado at 7000ft. My normal weather includes extremely high UV exposure, wide temperature swings, and high winds. I have had the 85 gallon version of this rain barrel for 3 years and am very satisfied with it (it still looks and works the same as the day I installed it), so I decided to try the smaller one for my front yard. This one is made of the same textured plastic and I really like the large, integrated planter. The hose fittings are plastic, so I replaced them with brass for durability. I have had the 50 gallon barrel installed for about 3 weeks, and we got a big rain recently that filled it completely. The flat back has bowed out so much that it has pushed the barrel away from the wall of my house by about 4 inches! I seems some kind of internal reinforcement is necessary from the manufacturer. Unfortunately now that it's installed (and full!), I am reluctant to return it. In summary, the aesthetics of this rain barrel are great, but it needs to be made of heavier plastic or have some kind of reinforcement on the flat back to keep it's shape.
