What is adapter for cutting multi layer tubing for and how does one use it?

No instructions of pictures anywhere on the packaging or on your web site that I can find. I have purchased cat No. 23493 plastic pipe & tubing cutter.
Asked by: Barnacle
Thank you for contacting RIDGID! The adapter is usually in place on the end of the cutter when it is purchased, there should have been some brief instructions on the back of the packaging (see attached pic). The adapter has a two fold purpose during the cut it minimizes the amount of deformation during the cut, after the cut the cone shaped end is used to re-shape the tubing back to a round form. I hope this helps, thank you.

PC-1250 Pipe Cutter is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 29.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Love these Use them for lawn irrigation work in texas. These have been my favorite. Buy them for myself so I'm willing to pay the price. If buying for an employee, I'd get frustrated when they got lost so I'd buy cheaper cutters. For me though, love the spring loaded opening handles, and the overall feel. They are heavy duty and hold up well. I buy a couple every year and they last the whole season. Yes they are designed for PVC pipe, pex pipe, hdpe pipe. 1/2", 3/4", 1" sizes, class 200 is best, but they'll cut sch40 with a stronger grip. Anything bigger than 1 inch then you'll want to use something different.

Someone wrote that we should use common sense and realize it's not for PVC but it say right on the package that it is. Maybe it would be okay for pex and rubber hose. I tried to take it back to home depot with a receipt but it was over 90 days and they offered me a penny, one cent. The store doesn't carry these in store anymore so it appears that Home Depot knows these don't work very well. I think my money would have been better spent elsewhere.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for what is supposed to be used for. This is supposed to be used for tubing that is rubber/vinyl or PEX. Pipe cutter may be bad name for the product, but use some common sense. Why not try to cut copper PIPE with it, or Black iron PIPE. Just because it is a PIPE cutter doesn't mean all types of PIPE??? This is definitely not for Schedule 40 PVC PIPE???? Anyone using this tool for that purpose shouldn't be doing those types of projects. A ratcheting cutter (like Model 50500) or a pvc saw (like Model 50522) is used for sch40, not this tool. I have used this many times for 3/4" PEX, 1/2" PEX, rubber tubing and vinyl tubing and it works great! Remember, there are right and wrong uses for every tool ;D

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rigid PVC cutter Ordered the cutter on-line and received it within a few days. I needed a smaller cutter for smaller piping in tight spaces. I got my money's worth. Worked great.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not suitable for 1 1/4" PVC. I bought this to cut 1 1/4" PVC, but it was difficult and time consuming for that task. Works fine for 1/2." The packaging said it was suitable for 1/8" to 1 5/8" PVC.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Cutting tool served its purpose, but... I used this tool to cut 1", 3/4", and 1/2" PEX tubing and 3/4" CPVC pipe. Cuts were square if the tool was rotated while cutting. The tool itself doesn't feel very durable, though, and Home Depot doesn't carry replacement blades. If you want a tool for the occasional cut, this one is sufficient.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Won't cut straight, blade dulls quickly This tool is a waste of your money. The blade dulls quickly after about 40 cuts, of ordinary Sched 40 3/4" white PVC in my case, and Home Depot doesn't sell the replacement blades! The Home Depot clerk agreed they don't sell the blades and it gets dull quickly. As hard as you might try, the pipe always is cut crooked due to the blade twisting as you start the cut. HD will however refund your money when the blade gets dull if you ask.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Hacksaw worked just as well Purchased to cut a length of PVC that was at the top of the limits of the tool. It was miserable to use. I ended up using a hacksaw and it worked just as well. This tool was the most expensive thing for the job (tool, pipe, glue) and used the least.
