does this saw have an electric brake system on the blade that keeps it from continuing to spin after use?
Asked by: Woodshopcop
I don't think so. The blade will keep spinning for several seconds (more than 5) after the trigger is released.

12 Amp Corded 6-1/2 in. Magnesium Compact Framing Circular Saw is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 134.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Tried it out and sadly disappointed I bought this saw because it was compact, powerful, and lightweight. It also had a good warranty and with Home Depot Rigid tools you can return within 90 days. i used this saw on a small project where i had to crosscut 2 x 4s and rip some plywood using an edge guide. i was disappointed in my cuts and the performance of this saw. This is my list of complaints: baseplate is not perpendicular to saw blade by about 1 1/2 degrees, baseplate edges are not paralell to saw blade, edges are not machined flat., levers are molded plastic over a nut and will definetly round out over time with clamping down hard, also seems to have play in motor shaft. Overall, i wish the engineering team could have paid attention to the details i mentioned because this being one of the few compact, corded, lightweight saws available it could have been a winner. I am a former mechanical designer and i am fussy about my tools. Rework this saw design and I may try it again.--JB in Rochester,NY

Rated 3 out of 5 by from 6 1/2" Mag. saw I am a framing contractor. This was purchased to replace an old Skill 5 1/2" that we use up high to cut truss blocks, rafter tails, plywood, etc. where a worm drive is heavy and awkward. I really wanted to like this saw, because it has a a bunch of great features: It's light, it's reasonably powerful, it's small, it has a METAL FRAME (BIG deal, we destroy plastic framed saws) and it has a 6 1/2" blade, so it will cut 2X at a 45 degree bevel. BUT. It got returned after 3 days of use because it's Achilles heel is that is a plastic y depth adjustment lock that would perpetually come loose, could not be tightened (at least as near as we could tell) and eventually broke from being cranked on in an attempt to keep it locked. SO...I can't say it's either "Durable", or "Professional" as it states on the box, but it does have some things to recommend it none the less. For homeowner use, or maybe as a plywood saw, it would probably be OK. For commercial framing, not so much.

Just simple cuts in small dimensional lumber. I use a Dewalt Framing Saw for anything other than light duty use. As I was using it to cut some furring strips, the blade started to wobble and the motor began to smoke a bit and smell hot. I checked to make sure the blade was tight, it was, and put a new blade on it. It made no difference. I believe that the bearing(s) for the main shaft might be going bad, and there is smoke coming out of the ventilation slots. I am really disappointed I didn't get more use out of it. It feels good in the hands, is light, and easy to adjust. The saw does have the Lifetime Service Agreement on it, but I have found that agreement to be subpar at best. The nearest authorized service shop is a 30 minute drive each way, which means between drop-off and pick-up, I have used more than 2 hours of my time, and the time away from paying jobs. The last time I used the LSA, it was on a Rigid framing nail gun. It took over 2 months to be repaired. The Service Manager at the repair shop stated that Rigid is very slow to send replacement parts. It's unfortunate, but I am throwing this thing in the trash and will start looking at other compact saws.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Reminds me of Detroit 30 years ago. Just way too many shortcomings. 1. The depth lock is loose, and as a consequence it wouldn't lock down the depth. I had to unscrew the torx bolt, re-tighten for it to work. 2. The bevel lockdown is loose and likewise wouldn't lock down and I had to readjust. 3. The 90 degree between the blade and the shoe is not square. The adjust needs a T8 torx bit to adjust. I don't have it. So have to get the special T8 to do adjustment. 4. The blade and the side of the shoe is not parallel. It is off by about 1/16 between the front and the back which is quite substantial. Adjusting this requires a complete tear-down of the housing, motor and arbor assembly. I gave up for what could have been a very well designed quality saw if the manufacturer are on top of their QA department. Reminds me of Detroit 30 years ago where the business and production model is to ship it out regardless and let the dealers handle any quality issues. Well in this case, even with lifetime warranty, I'm not putting up for it......I returned it !!!

Been looking for a 6 1/2 " saw that does the job and is comfortable and easy to use. I found it. This little guy is a beast. It's pretty light weight and does the job of bigger saws. And $79.
