Rigid planner
I have used Rigid tools for over 40 years in the trades until now. Based on my past experience with Rigid is why I purchased this item. The machine works great but the chip ejection system sucks. The vacuum impeller is not powerful enough to remove the chips and plugs up every 20 minutes or less. Then you have to tear it apart clean it and reassemble it. That is only shaving off 1/64th of an inch. If you shave 1/32th it only takes 5 to 10 minutes before it plugs up. Most annoying.

Smooth As A Sheet Of Glass
There are not many planers on the market that suit the need of woodworkers who require just that little bit more width for items to plane without breaking the budget; mine was the fact that the Ridgid 13-inch, allowed me to plane 12 3/4-inch guitar bodies to a precise thickness without having to do much final sanding-- and all within what I would pay for a less caliber one. I was also amazed at the smooth cut the three blades provided.

Best in class! Best = performance and quality/$
A planer has been on my “nice to have” list to list for years. Is this the best DIY planer out there? Not likely but it is probably the best value unit, especially on sale and with a lifetime warranty. Does everything you would want! And if you’re at all timid or apprehensive, YouTube offers lots of help to get you started. I’ve found snipe is directly proportionate to levelling tables and supporting wood as it exits. Been extremely pleased so far, no regrets!

I have had to return 3 in a years time. It's been a lil over a year so I can't remember what happened to the first one. The second one as I was running boards the motor blew. I just got my number three last week. When I started to use it I could hear a rattling noise. I should have taken it back the next day. I turned it on today go listen for the noise and one of the metal plates holding down a blade come free from all 6 screws and wrapped itself around the rotating bar. I will not be getting another.

Good planer... Too bad about the experience.
The limited number of passes that I’ve so far done with this planer indicate to me that it’s a solid piece of machinery. No set-up required out of the box and blade to table alignment was spot on with next to no sniping of the finished work. I had my doubts about portable planers given past experience with only larger stationary models, though this tool put my concerns to rest. Four stars because the online retail site indicated one unit in stock at another store that was outside of my city. Upon arrival it became obvious to me, given the bashed up box and missing manual, that they were selling a floor model. It wasn’t until I got it home that I noticed that the lockout key was missing as well. Some calling around and another out of town trip to a Ridgid service shop and I was able to get the required key... not cool. If I’m paying for new then that’s what I expect - complete contents as well.

My son is using this machine to eat through old, used cedar pickets from a fence his brother is replacing. This planer has no problem finding the beautiful wood hidden inside these weathered boards. It leaves a beautiful finish with little to no sanding. Building a beautiful potting table suitable for the garden or patio completely out of recycled wood. This machine literally ran for hours, straight out of the box. Just quick measurements on the first few passes assured us the factory setting were true.

      Best planer for the money
I have been running this planer hard for five years or maybe more. With some minor tuning it is accurate. This planer has three knives, a locking cutterhead, chip ejector, and depth indicator, putting this well above most competition. There is only one 15A planer that gives it a challenge and has a much higher price tag, making this the obvious choice. This is not a 3hp helical head stationary planer. It obviously doesn't compare. But those run around 3k

        Gear box failure
Third time using this planer and it started making a gear rattling noise. Took apart and the gears that drive the feed rollers dont have bearings, they are just brass jacketed. Will have to buy a $120 gear box, as you cant buy just the gears. Stupid! Most of my tools are Ridgid, but they have been going downhill...will have to upgrade next time.

          Nice planer poor vacuum management
I replaced my old Ridgid planer TP 1300 with the 4331, I like it having 3 blades, setup was easy, but my old Ridgid actually did the excess material removal much better, it appears I have half going into the vacuum and half coming out the back and front. My old Ridgid planer had the vast majority how's the material going into the vacuum.

            Great planer for the price
I had bought this planer, got it home and all set up, went to power it up and it spat out a shower of sparks and made a shrill grinding noise before blowing the breaker. Uh, thats bad. So i was able to exchange it after talking to Ridgid tech support. I just went back to Home Depot and swapped it out and tried a second unit. Works like a champ right out of the box this time. I did note that the first one I had included a very heavy smooth (Granite?) bed surface whereas the new one is like a sheet metal bed, but it seems to work fine. I checked the infeed and outfeed trays for level and they were bang-on without any adjustments. Also, all the blade screws were nice and tight and the thickness indicator is spot on to the resulting planed thickness. I like the Indi-cut feature showing how much wood is getting planed off, its a handy feature, as well as the repeat-a-cut option on the side. Its easy to use and should last a long time with the lifetime warranty to back it up. I chose this planer over the DeWalt for those reasons (and im usially a DeWalt guy too). Ive been very happy with this purchase. Note: even with effective dust collection, it spits out a fair amount of shavings during the process.

This planer is incredible. Very easy to use and leaves a very smooth finish. Set up was super simple and the table adjustments are made easily as well. There is a small amount of snipe but I'm sure I can correct that myself. I love the Ridgid brand and will always be happy to buy their tools.

Had for a few weeks now. Ran some white oak 4 x 4 post through, did some walnut , pine, and a few others, all came out pretty smooth, smoother than a few other double blade planers in this class that I have used. Take note if running heavy piece through, add support on both ends ,more than the little trays provided as you can snipe(gouge ends) real bad in and out. The indicator gauge and measuring gauge on side really do not match up when having to make and adjustment - need to go up or down 1/16th" per Indi, turning the lever(watching the measuring guide, barley moves(less than a 1/16th). Just do your own measurements if needing to be precise. Sure I could've saved money and go buy Bauer from harbor freight but this Home Depot location has treated me well in the past year I've been doing business with them(Customer Service MATTERS!) that and the warranty on this unit reads to be solid. I'll try to follow up in a year or so(being positive it will be working as should.

I'm having a really tough time writing this review due to the fact that I am a Ridgid fan! I did a cursory review of the comments left by previous buyers of this planer and focused on the good comments. I did see a couple reviews where the product did not perform satisfactorily and a call service was necessary to fix the problem. Regardless of the 1 or 2 reviews that did not rank the Planer very high I decided to purchase the planer. Out of the box the planer was easy to set up and came ready to work. After working through the start up guide I decided to get started on my project. The planer is really nice to use and I like the cut indicator on the front of the carriage. Problem start after my second cut when the motor/machine start producing a high pitch squeal that sounded like it was a bearing that spun on the camshaft at a high speed. I immediately shut the system down and ran back through the users manual for trouble shooting, but have not found a solution. So now I guess I need to find a repair shop that works on Home Depot Ridgid planers

Very good quality planer for the price. One of those tools that is a total gamechanger once you have it. The cut indicator gauge is an awesome feature. As most of Ridgid's tools, it is very well built. Dust collection is fair, could be better. Comes with very high quality blades. I used the first edge for what seemed like forever, and just recently was able to flip the blades over and back to a brand new cut! Have problems with snipe occasionally, but every planer I've ever used has that problem sometimes. Lightweight enough to carry around and store when not in use. Definitely recommend!

                    worst product ever
Ive gad oroblems with this thinf fron the moment i unboxed it. The depth gauge selector knob was Stripped so I fix that because I didn’t feel like that constituted a trip to Home Depot. First boards i ran through were fine, then after no more than 45 days having this thing I got a run a 2 x 10 Oak through it I can’t handle it, even trying to only take off 1/64 of an inch that’s just ridiculous. But nonetheless I gave Reggie the benefit of the doubt and thought well maybe I need to change the blades, So I go to turn the blades around instead of changing them in the tools they give you to do so strip several of the nuts hold it in so now I can’t change the blade even if I wanted to needless to say I’m on my way to Home Depot for a full refund. I certainly hope

I've had this planer for a couple of years and overall I have been really pleased with it. I have planed everything from maple, walnut, oak, and other hardwoods to softer stuff like pine and fir and it has always worked well for me. I was a little torn on 5 vs 4 stars because I think this is great for a lunch box planer but when this planer does kick the bucket I might replace it with a larger bench top style unit. Pros: - It worked great for me straight out of the box. - Quality of finish is really good to the point that I rarely sand board faces that I have planed. - The repeat-a-cut feature is awesome when milling a lot of boards that might have started at different thicknesses. - Dust collection works well when connected to a shop vac. Cons: - Loud as all get out, this seems to be common to all thickness planers. - Leaves a fair bit snipe, this seems to be common to all planners but larger units seem to suffer from it less. - Heavy, again this seems to be common to all lunch box planers but for something that is supposed to be "portable" it seems like someone would attempt to address this.

I spent quite a bit of time reading the reviews of this planer and somehow managed to convince myself to disregard the majority of 1 and 2 star ratings because they either concerned shipping damaged or were for non-verified purchases. That was a mistake. I bought it from stock today, used it for a couple hours and tomorrow I will return it. First, on setup I noticed that the height adjustment indicator was crooked. It's held in place with two small screws so it should have been easy to adjust. Not so. It turns out that the bottom hole was stripped. Fixing the indicator would require tapping for a larger screw. Second, what on earth is that noise? It sounds like there's gravel flying around in the cutter head. That can't be good. Third, running 9" wide poplar through at a 1/16" depth of cut left a surface marred with scattered tear out. I can only imagine what it would look like when the new blades begin to dull. Finally, and most egregiously, at about four inches from the left edge, the planer leaves a thin raised welt. It looks like someone ran a small nail or staple though the planer but there's no indication that this unit has ever been used. Any one of these might be enough to make one doubt the quality of the machine. Having all four right out of the box is a deal breaker. Other observations. The chip impeller is a nice idea but even with a vac attached there's a significant amount of chips coming out the front. I had to blow the infeed table off before every use. There was minimal snipe on the pieces I ran though it today.

This is the third planer i have owned it it outperforms all others. it has a very smooth cut, since it has a three blade cutting head. its a little quieter but for its size and mobility it is by far the best planer i have owned. the dust collector works great and having the preset stops for thickness comes in extremely handy when i mess up and need more boards planed at the same depth.

Easy to set up and use. Bought this to finish a stack of pine lumber I milled from our own trees. So far have planed about a dozen 10-13 inch boards. Had one board that stopped feeding, but after waxing the tables and cleaning up some buildup on the rollers, everything worked fine. Be careful of the cutters when cleaning the rollers. They are very sharp. Planer creates a lot of chips and dust. The exhaust fan is pretty strong, so I am exhausting the chips to a garbage can with a shop vac filter mounted on the lid (see pic).

I'm a big fan of this Ridgid Planer! When I first started woodworking, I wasn't sure if it was a necessary investment but after using it a few times - let me tell you- it is!! My husband and I have loved using it for our projects. The before and after of the lumber is just incredible. The Planer self-feeds the wood which is really a nice feature. Highly recommend to all woodworkers who want to take their projects to the next level!

When it works it works great. The problem is the quality. Bolts and screws are not guaranteed to be tight out of the box, check the blade lock screws before use. Mine were loose and and came out withing the first couple uses destroying a blade, blade lock, bar and damaging the piece running through it. Now I have had a gear for the roller break. This happened trying to take a 1/64" off a 12" wide board that had already made a few passes through. Overall this product has almost as much time being repaired as it does running. As for the Lifetime service agreement you have to deliver it to a certified dealer or ship it back to the factory. In my case the nearest dealer is over 60 miles away and I live in a decent sized city. In either of these cases it will cost me more in gas or shipping to take it in for repair than just replacing the part myself. Another thing to note: I have had to order some blades for this, often times the they show up as a discontinued part under the factory number. It may be that once the current stock runs out you will be unable to get replacement blades. Look elsewhere, spend a little more and get a planar that does not use the cheapest materials known to man.

I was really on the fence between buying this planer and the Porter Cable one from Lowes. The main reason was pricing however the more and more I talked to people who had the Rigid planer put my mind at ease. I am new to the wood working and furniture making process and I knew a planer would be a game changer. Well long story short even though I have only used it twice I couldn't be happier. One of the issues I was worried about was the snipe which you typically get with any lunchbox planer from my research. Its extremely minimal at least from my brief experience and I have been planning 2x6 pine boards I have found that just using a scrap piece behind it takes care of the snipe. You could also run 1 board after another if you are doing multiple boards and then run a scrap piece after the last board. If you are on the fence about buying this just do it worth every penny in my opinion.

I run a youth program and we had just purchased this and had run 1 board through it to test it out and then took it to our work site. The next day the work site burned down along with everything in it so we never got to use it. When we ran the one board through we noticed that is was quite loud. I have my own Ridgid planer that I have had for about 10 years and it is not as loud as this new one. It will be a bit before we can replace it, but I definitely will get another Ridgid one.
