Questions & Answers

can it cut 2x4s?

Asked by: Ricinfl
This saw will definitely cut 2x4's, it is both large enough and has plenty of power. I regularly cut 2x6's.

What does 'Dual Bevel' mean with regards to a miter saw?

Asked by: Hopper
It means the head of the saw can tilt both to the right and the left. Typically saws only bevel one direction.

I've been using this 6-7 times this year to cut everything from 2x4s to laminates to baseboards and casings. It's my first miter saw and I love it. Although 10 inch was a little too short for my laminates, it's still a great option since I want to keep it in my car, not in my truck bed. I had to flip it around and cut again. not 100% on the line, but who cares-that's what baseboards are for.

I decided to purchase the Ridgid over the similar-priced 10" yellow one after looking at both in the store. I'm not partial to either brand, as I own a few power tools of each, that all work well. At first, I was really trying to find a reason to get the yellow one - mostly because of brand recognition. The main reasons why I chose the Ridgid saw (in order of importance to me) are: Dual bevel with easy to read gauges (vs. single bevel; and the bevel gauge on the yellow one seems more prone to parallax error); the lifetime warranty, the work clamp, laser and price. The reason why I went with the 10" model is that the sliding types and the 12" ones were heavier and bulky, as portability was an important factor in my decision. After reading some of the reviews and Q&A's, I was concerned that the right bevel wouldn't be able to reach 45 deg. However, the saw that I received does no problem. Simply remove the right fence to allow clearance for the motor, and it reaches 45 and even 48 deg easily. The setup was square out of the box. I didn't need to make any adjustments other than a slight tweak to the laser - which wasn't a big deal. Even without the laser, it’s easy to see where the cut will be once you lower the blade. Within a couple hours after taking it out of the new box, I made a nail polish rack for my daughter which makes her just as pleased as I am!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I have a Dewalt 713 and while I like it I wanted to try this Rigid and maybe exchange the Dewalt.... I have a Dewalt 713 and while I like it I wanted to try this Rigid and maybe exchange the Dewalt. While I spent only a day with this saw and returned it it was a tough decision. Out of the box it needed adjustments. I was a toolmaker before retiring and doing wood working so I know machine tools. How to use them square up everything etc. (I spent hour adjusting it) When I get a new wood working machine the first thing out of the box is set it up and make it accurate. The fence ALMOST was Square to blade Blade was ALMOST Square to the table. Most of the complaints I see are because the manual was not read or you would know how to adjust this to make it cut accurately. Everything on this saw IS adjustable if you take your time and understand the tool and manual before you start cutting. I found the saw to be almost as good accuracy wise to the Dewalt. More plastic on the Ridgid and while the Dewalt is a slightly better built product the Ridgid is a good Miter saw and you get more with it than the dewalt. Better dust collection for example (the Dewalt has a smaller collection tube diameter (a bast**d size too) and is located way off center to the center of the blade. Neither saw dust collection is great though. Ridgid is on center and about 2 1/2" (way larger) and std for your D.C. or shop vac. Ridgid has a nice zero clearance insert, a laser and double bevels and a clamp. Dewalt is single bevel, no zero insert, no laser, no clamp! Bottom line was Dewalt is built like a tank. Simple but effective design and some better materials. Dewalt was set up accurate out of the box, tight (no wobbling of saw head Ridgid had slight movement) and I just felt the DW713 was going to do everything I need without any issues. I wish Dewalt would incorporate some of the Ridgid extras. So if you want the extras the Ridgid has, I would say it's a pretty good deal and better warranty. Tough choice for me.

So after reading reviews I decided to give Ridgid a try after hearing good things about the warranty and quality. After having it for awhile I have had no problems with it. All of the parts came intact and nothing was damaged which I noticed other reviewers experienced. I would definitely recommend this saw for small projects. I crossed cut 2x4's and 4x4's all day and had no problems. The reason why I rated this saw 4 out of 5 is because of the laser. The laser is not accurate, but the machine is still operable without it. Great saw for 199.99

Makes very clean cuts and is stable owing to its wide base. The best thing about the saw is its portability - it is light and has a nice carry handle. My old Makita miter saw weighed almost 60 lbs. Some cons: I) the laser is too dim to see in full sun and II) the 0 degree miter detent cannot be adjusted perfectly. I followed the directions in the manual to set the 0 degree detent, but couldn’t quite get it. I have to set the miter to 0.5 degrees to get a perfect crosscut.

Not a bad saw, but after 7 years of light use the plastic blade guard broke. Not a big deal I will just order another one. Parts are no longer available for this model! Since I don't want to cut my hand off, this saw is going to the junk pile, but will not be replaced by another Rigid. Same story with my cordless drill a few years ago. Life time warranty, but no parts available.

But for bevel cuts it doesn't do so well. It bevels in both directions, but if you are cutting anything more than quarter round you are SOL. The motor, even though it has been rotated still gets in the way. I would not recommend this saw to anyone

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good saw Have had this saw about 2 months love the dual miter/bevel feature and smooth action when changing angles. Had to adjust miter angle right out of the box and not sure if the kind of grinding sound on start is because of the direct drive but if the t's a problem I'll be trying out that Ridgid warranty
