Questions & Answers

How long is the warranty on this saw -Ridgid 12 IN. SLIDING COMPOUND MITER SAW WITH ADJUSTABLE LASER

Asked by: Jack
Lifetime service IF you register the saw within 90 days of purchase.

Is the laser built in and adjustable, or like the third-party ones that takes batteries?

Asked by: jon
It takes batteries and attaches to the side of the blade. Mine went out many years ago which is fine by me. It worked fine for rough cuts but I don't trust lasers for finish work, I trust the outside edge of the carbide teeth.... -F3

Has the squareness issue been resolved with miter cuts not being straight when sliding the saw?

I'm interested in buying this saw but I've read in a LOT of reviews that your saws don't stay straight and are up to 1/8" off when sliding the saw to make a cut towards the back of the piece being cut.
Asked by: Silas67
I just recently purchased this saw, and I am experiencing this exact problem. I would say it is a known problem being that a thorough google search has referenced the exact issue many times over with the Rigid saw. I love everything about it, but it most definitely does not cut square when sliding. I have thoroughly checked that the fence is set square, and several cut tests confirm. HOWEVER, even when not under power, sliding the saw out to its fully extended position shows a VERY obvious tracking to the left. Blade remains square, but moves at least 1/8th of an inch away from the framing square. Obviously there is no fix for this issue, so if it so uncommon as many claim, Rigid should have no issue replacing defective units with this fault.

Customer Reviews

15 Amp 12 in. Sliding Compound Miter Saw with Adjustable Laser is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 164.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Rigid 12" sliding compound miter saw. I purchased this a few weeks ago when I had a break in the snowstorms,I plow and sand for a municipality. I have read reviews for every saw out there. I have talked to contractors whom i've known for years. They were all over the place with their opinions. Home Depot reviews helped me make an informed decision and I appreciate that. I also could not find the write a review section when I was looking at it all along. I wrote Home Depot Customer Servive and they e- mailed me ,gave me info they are on the job!!! Back to the saw, which is perfect. I also bought the Rigid MSUV stand. The owners manual says that the saw is set from the factory. Upon a few test cuts, it's perfect. I read the manual from beginning to end and every adjustment you would need is explained very simply. The MSUV stand is equally ,incredibly heavy duty ,solid build and heavy. The Home Depot employee who helped me was great. I have asked him for help over the last few years and he's great. Overall I enjoyed a good experience Thank You ,Home Depot, Mr. Lauren, Hampden,Ma

Rated 2 out of 5 by from sliding arm track not accurate We were shopping around and bought this product because it came with a free stand (which was a very nice stand). We also so the many good reviews. After bringing it home and assembling it without hassle we proceeded to work on a project. After many cuts we began to realize that the sliding arm track was misaligned. The saw would cut right on the mark closest to you... and then proceed to get wider as you slide back the saw (almost as wide as 1/8"). We squared everything up per the manual and zeroed everything appropriately and did not get good results. We even played with the gib screws and nuts. After an hour of frustration, we looked up some of the reviews and saw that some other people had the same problem. We had to return it because we were doing more detailed work than this machine allowed. Like what other people said, you can use this machine for rough carpentry but NOT DETAILED WORK. Also, we were cutting 1x12, so the misalignment was more exaggerate and pronounced.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from INCREDIBLY WELL THOUGHT OUT! The Rigid 15-AMP 12 IN. COMPOUND MITER SAW WITH LASER exceeds the already high standard I set from using my other Rigid tools. Right out of the box my saw cut a perfect 90. I still have yet to try the laser as this is a new feature for me since lasers on all my past miter saws were worthless, but this seems to break that trend. IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING PURCHASING THE AC9945 MITER SAW UTILITY VEHICLE, MY ADVICE IS DO IT! The Utility vehicle operates so smoothly and makes carrying weight of any miter saw (universally fits most saws) that is worthwhile effortless. It is amazing how well balanced the utility cart is. I recently got to see one of the 15-AMP 12 IN. COMPOUND MITER SAW WITH LASER in "well used" condition on a job site. I asked what they thought about the saw it got rave reviews. Those are my thoughts and experiences.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Saw Great saw upgraded from 10" to the 12". Sliding feature is smooth make sure to keep slide clean of saw dust. Makes it easier to use. The pre-settings for crown molding makes it easy peasy to use. Make sure to follow the instructions in the manual if you don't know how to square a saw. Other wise your saw may not cut square. Best one out there, I have used other brands. This one beats them, the only thing is the weight. But they all weigh a lot, I would suggest buying the suv saw stand. It makes it silky smooth to use. Some of the other reviews have complained about size and the volume of the saw. Power tools are loud, that is why you should wear hearing protection at all times.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Saw - one minor draw back This is an excellent 15amp 12" sliding compound miter saw - Here's what I like best = For me cutting miters are always something that makes me over think the situation, and crown molding!! well, that's something I always had to thoroughly think through. This saw takes all the guess work out of crown molding cuts - as it's got specific instructions on the base of the saw. Now all I have to do is READ the instructions and BAM - perfect inside and outside crown molding cuts. Just yesterday my wife and I were installing laminate floors for her parents - and she even commented on how smooth and stable the saw seemed. (it's mounted on a Rigid mobile miter saw stand) The only draw back is .... I'm right handed so 99% of my cuts are made using my right hand on the control arm allowing my right thumb to operate the switch - -- however that 1% cuts - well it would have been nice to have a duel control on the hand lever - - - my previous saw which was far lesser quality had dual switches on the control handle

Rated 2 out of 5 by from A Saw I can do without This saw was the correct price especially bundled with the nice mobile miter stand. But after a few weeks when I went to check the alignment I set up my dial indicator and my machinists square and adjusted the fence so that the total run out was less than .007". Then the laser line and my pencil line did not agree so I put the square against the fence and checked the alignment about 3 " up on the blade. To my surprise there was a little less than 1/32" gap. Further checking showed that the blade was at an angle with rods. Rather than take a new one and chance finding something else I took advantage of Home Depot's fine return policy and returned the saw. Unfortunately because it had been bundled with the miter saw stand I had to return that also. I have since repurchased the stand and a Bosch Glide Compound Miter Saw, from Home Depot .

Rated 1 out of 5 by from It must be my bad luck week... I returned the first due to a defective on/off switch. After making a cut and releasing the switch, the brake would start to work but then the motor would ramp back up and stay on for a while. It kept on getting worse and after about 20+ simple miter cuts on baseboard, I didn't think it was going to turn off. So, I returned it. I haven't been able to square up the fence to the blade on the second one yet so I haven't even run it yet. Who knows what else could be wrong. Customer service hasn't been to helpful whether over the phone or online. There's an error in the manual and I'm the one that found it. Instead of addressing the problem, right now they seem to be more concerned finding out why the manual isn't correct. I think the warranty and service is done by a subcontractor to Ridged: One World Technologies, Inc., unless One World Tech is the parent company. Either way, I'm not too impressed. If the second one I got didn't have issues, I wouldn't have provided a bad review. But, so far I haven't had luck getting the fence adjusted and there's a chance this one will have to go back also.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from only for occasional use do NOT buy this saw if you do a lot of cutting. I bought this in a pinch after my other saw was stolen from a jobsite -thought it was ok other than the bulkiness and size, but then the real saw showed up.When using my other saw while running trim, I would fill the dustbag at least 3 times a day..with this saw, after 3 days it still had hardly any dust pickup. Also, the swivel miter controls would get stiff and hard to use due to sawdust buildup, and unless you want to get real involved disassembling the saw, the quick solution is flip it over, clean what you can, and spray it with wd40. The catch 22 of course, is the wd40 attracts MORE sawdust. Overall it's not terrible, but compared to other saws the miter controls are very hard to use. If you are running trim in a whole house, and constantly changing the miter angles, you will not be happy with this saw
