Questions & Answers

How long is the warranty on this saw -Ridgid 12 IN. SLIDING COMPOUND MITER SAW WITH ADJUSTABLE LASER

Asked by: Jack
Lifetime service IF you register the saw within 90 days of purchase.

Is the laser built in and adjustable, or like the third-party ones that takes batteries?

Asked by: craftsman70
It takes batteries and attaches to the side of the blade. Mine went out many years ago which is fine by me. It worked fine for rough cuts but I don't trust lasers for finish work, I trust the outside edge of the carbide teeth.... -F3

Has the squareness issue been resolved with miter cuts not being straight when sliding the saw?

I'm interested in buying this saw but I've read in a LOT of reviews that your saws don't stay straight and are up to 1/8" off when sliding the saw to make a cut towards the back of the piece being cut.
Asked by: Silas67
I just recently purchased this saw, and I am experiencing this exact problem. I would say it is a known problem being that a thorough google search has referenced the exact issue many times over with the Rigid saw. I love everything about it, but it most definitely does not cut square when sliding. I have thoroughly checked that the fence is set square, and several cut tests confirm. HOWEVER, even when not under power, sliding the saw out to its fully extended position shows a VERY obvious tracking to the left. Blade remains square, but moves at least 1/8th of an inch away from the framing square. Obviously there is no fix for this issue, so if it so uncommon as many claim, Rigid should have no issue replacing defective units with this fault.

Customer Reviews

15 Amp 12 in. Sliding Compound Miter Saw with Adjustable Laser is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 163.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Saw Great saw upgraded from 10" to the 12". Sliding feature is smooth make sure to keep slide clean of saw dust. Makes it easier to use. The pre-settings for crown molding makes it easy peasy to use. Make sure to follow the instructions in the manual if you don't know how to square a saw. Other wise your saw may not cut square. Best one out there, I have used other brands. This one beats them, the only thing is the weight. But they all weigh a lot, I would suggest buying the suv saw stand. It makes it silky smooth to use. Some of the other reviews have complained about size and the volume of the saw. Power tools are loud, that is why you should wear hearing protection at all times.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Value Replaced 12" Dewalt saw with the Ridgid after the Dewalt burnt out. I picked up the saw and stand for substantially less than the Dewalt counterpart, I wasn't too sure at the time but 6 months later I couldn't be happier with my decision to move to Ridgid. I use it it nearly everyday at the job site and it is hardly showing signs of wear. It is solid, accurate, versatile, and comes with the best warranty out there. The only things I could say negatively is that the dust collection is less effective than I would have preferred even with a vac, and it seems really loud. I will be replacing other power tools when the time comes with Ridgid.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Well Built, solid saw I purchased this saw online last month and it is supposed to be the newest version of this model. Wood magazine just published their favorable review of this new saw in last month’s edition, but the model number seems to be the same. Let me start by saying that this saw is big! Not kind of big, but big! The reason I mention this so adamantly is because size may be an issue for your shop and the portability of the unit. I bought this when it came out last month at a much lower price which made it a great deal and they offered free shipping to the store which is no longer be available. They do however offer a very fair flat shipping rate considering the size and weight of the box, but that will add to the price of the saw. I was deciding between the DeWalt DWS780 and this saw, but the much lower price gave it the lead. I was in a position to compare the two saws side by side as a friend owns the DeWalt, so I can tell you some of the good and the not so good. Let me be clear about one thing. The Ridgid lifetime warranty was not a factor for me at all. Why? Because there are no repair facilities convenient to me at all. So I judged both saws on their usefulness alone. The good: • The saw is very well built. • Larger work table than DWS780 - Larger slides than Dewalt by a quarter of an inch with a very smooth sliding action. • Very, very smooth rotating table slide, also the table is larger than the competitor (good and bad?). I want to mention something about the smoothness of the table; it is by far the best I have ever encountered, and is on par with the quality of metal working tools like a milling machine table. I was a machinist for many years and the table slide quality really impressed me. • The table locks are very easy to use and again, I liked the smoothness of the table • the bevel adjustment lever is much easier to use, loosen and lock versus the DWS780 • Dust collection is no worse than other saws and the sawdust outlet accepts a standard shop vac hose. • Very good quality stock blade. • Has a writable work surface top help make rough repeatable cuts • Hold down clamp is better quality than a lot of companies offer with their stock set up • Required no adjustments out of the box, was square and ready to go • Greater bevel adjustment both right and left. 60 degrees both ways • reasonably quiet operation - Great stock blade installed on the saw. - Cuts were accurate and square. - Saw start was smooth without a lot of initial kick, but I don’t think it is soft start and it didn’t claim to be. The not so good • This saw weighs a ton, approx. 90 lbs. If you need to move this saw regularly, you will have a bear of a time doing it. As a point of reference, Dewalt’s DWS780 is only 66 lbs. and more compact and much easier to carry -The saw motor arm lock is not a pin like most saws that were are used to, the kind that we slide in or out when we are ready to store the saw head in the down position. It is a plate with degreed holes that slip over a pin and does not lock on. Considering the weight of this saw I didn’t like this as the sole method of locking the saw head in place for transportation. • The laser is useless- others may have good experiences but I did not, so to me Dewalt’s DWS780 is superior in this space and is very accurate. Many people say they don’t rely on a laser for cutting, but if it worked properly and was accurate, I bet they would. Plus the saw is being marketed as having a Laser. • The saw is just flat out large, so depending on how you plan to use the saw; this could be good or bad. Dewalt has a smaller table and a greater cut capacity which may be something to think about. The larger table isn’t necessary, but if space is not an issue, bigger is better. • Mobile stand is really a must if you plan to move this saw around with any kind of frequency, even if it’s just in the shop. I am a pretty strong guy and carrying this monster up the basement stairs to the outdoors was very tough and if you slip, there goes the saw. Summary- Overall this is a very nicely built, well thought out saw that cuts well. That being said, you will get years of solid use from it as a DIYer or Contractor. If I did not have to move this saw outdoors or upstairs, than it would be a 10 all around, but mobility is a factor for me, and I think for a lot of Contractors and Homeowners as well. This saw was built heavy duty with contractor use in mind. I can’t say that for a lot of the other saws out now, but Ridgid was smart to keep this in their lineup. I would recommend this saw to anyone looking for a rock solid well-built saw that will give years of use.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great value I been looking to replace my miter saw from 1984, so pretty much anything would be an upgrade. But this saw far exceeds many other miter saws that I have used in the past. The positive stops are quite convenient as well. My only complaint would be the dust collection bag is somewhat useless, but I attached my shop-vac to the outlet and it worked very well

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best size and best in the market! I have had this 12" double bevel compound slinding mitre saw for 4 yrs now with stand. Best one I have ever owned. Stand is a little hard to erect with saw on it. Easy to calibrate if it gets out. Cut well. I have had on part go out and it's the bush that makes the plastic hairs go up when ur cutting. As a professional and saw getting professional use...excellent saw. I have owned 3 other brands and this is the best. Love the working Suface, cord wrap, stand!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent saw I've had this saw since about 2005. Had to replace the plastic table guides only once. I've built many custom homes and remodeled dozens with this saw. Also remodeled dozens of kitchens/baths. The saw is a little on the heavy side, but I still love it. Easy to calibrate if necessary. Do not like the newer saws with the tiny table. What's that all about? This is, without a doubt, the best saw I've ever owned.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from INCREDIBLY WELL THOUGHT OUT! The Rigid 15-AMP 12 IN. COMPOUND MITER SAW WITH LASER exceeds the already high standard I set from using my other Rigid tools. Right out of the box my saw cut a perfect 90. I still have yet to try the laser as this is a new feature for me since lasers on all my past miter saws were worthless, but this seems to break that trend. IF YOU ARE CONSIDERING PURCHASING THE AC9945 MITER SAW UTILITY VEHICLE, MY ADVICE IS DO IT! The Utility vehicle operates so smoothly and makes carrying weight of any miter saw (universally fits most saws) that is worthwhile effortless. It is amazing how well balanced the utility cart is. I recently got to see one of the 15-AMP 12 IN. COMPOUND MITER SAW WITH LASER in "well used" condition on a job site. I asked what they thought about the saw it got rave reviews. Those are my thoughts and experiences.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sturdy, reliable, accurate. I want to preface this review by saying that if you don't take proper care of your tools, of course they are going to let you down. You don't expect to get 100,000 miles out of your car if you never change the oil, right? Having owned this saw for nearly a year, I can say it has been an essential part of my day-to-day. The laser is deadly accurate, the base is extremely sturdy, and the motor delivers enough power to work it's way through anything. The bevel and miter adjustments still glide as smoothly as they did the day I bought it, and the positive stops for common cuts really come in handy. One of my favorite features is the mechanism that locks the blade down when you store it because it also serves as a stop for making repetitive cuts at the same depth. This is especially useful for lap joints that I go in and clean up with a chisel because it saves me from having to set up a guide for my circular saw or busting out my table saw. There are only two things I find lacking: 1) the dust collection, and 2) the clamp. The dust collection doesn't readily receive PVC fittings to hook up to a vacuum, which is a bit of an annoyance, but I do believe this is something RIDGID has heard multiple times and is working on. The clamp is a bit weak, and when you twist it to put extra pressure on the material it sometimes bows. This doesn't cause any defective cuts as far as I've seen, but it is a minor concern. Overall, the value and quality are excellent. Again, you have to keep proper care of your tools, and if you do, you'll get many, many years worth of work out of this saw. It's fully capable of tackling a wide array of jobs and does so with ease.
