A:  You'll need to purchase a blade specifically for aluminum. The blade that comes with the saw is for ferrous metals.

A:  It probably would, but you would be better suited to use a wood saw for cutting wood.

                Cuts are actually square.
After reading and watching countless videos and product reviews on every cutoff saw I honestly narrowed it down to the Rigid or Hercules. My snag on EVERY saw review was that none of them cut square. *LOOK AT MY PICTURES* This is dead nuts, L7 Square!

The tool is pretty much as described. It cuts steel pipe/rod/tubing. It does it with a minimum of fuss. Not a fancy tool, but performs well. My only downside to the tool (which isn't a huge deal if you have a square) is that the 0-degree setting is not a detent, but just a visual indicator. But the cuts are clean and quick. You absolutely need eye and ear protection with this. Don't even think of using this without wraparound eye protection, as a steel filing in your eye means you can never have an MRI for the rest of your life (I'm a doc) and can stain your sclera or cornea with a rust stain. Obviously if you know you need one of these tools, you know that it generates lots of hot sparks. Make sure you do this in a location where spraying large numbers of sparks is safe.

It's ready to go, right out of the box. 45° cuts in either direction is a handy setup, although the vise and blade flex can make for squirrelly precision cuts at that angle. The lifetime warranty is by far the best benefit.

                  Great chop saw but ...
Great and well build saw for ferrous metals only. You need to get an additional non-ferrous metal cutting blade for cutting aluminum, brass, copper and plastics. The big issue is with factory set angle bracket from 0-45 deg. either direction left or right. This bracket as set by the manufacturer won’t allow full range of movement up to 45 deg. It stops around 33 deg. because friction beyond this point. I have quickly learned that the adjustment you have to made is related to locking handle and a specially a split lock washer which needs to be adjusted. To fix this problem remove the small screw with spring and loosen the screw going to a T-nut underneath of the casting base. Now this bracket will travel all the way and pass 45 deg. Set to a position so split lock washer will hold the bracket with some force but when adding the L-handle will lock in position. You may play like this several times until you’ll find the exact setting. Finally lubricate those areas. This feature shall be improved and re-designed by the manufacturer.

Don't buy if you are cutting mitres
Good for square cuts, bad for mitres Overall solidly built, but too many issues to recommend to buy Cannot cut square mitres, blade wanders and fence not good enough Blade cannot cut all the way through mitres even with the blade adjusted to almost touching the workbench Fence lock was either too loose, or too tight. Couldn't get it to work easily
