If you bought the $219 dollar version, it doesn't come with the stand. To get the stand, you have to pony-up $299.

How safe is this table saw?

Asked by: Johy
The saw is only as safe as the one using It. If you want a saw that is the safest then you need to pony up for a Sawstop table saw.

This is the first Rigid product I bought and did so over other options because of the warranty which advertised as lifetime service and parts. I hadn't needed the stand until much after 90 days and discovered that a critical piece for the stand was missing. As I registered the product I didn't worry about it because not only did I never receive the part, but according to the advertisement, I thought it should be covered. When I called I received an extremely curt "not covered" and they gave me the name of a company that does not seem to carry the one small piece I need so the stand is junk. Next time I'm evaluating products I won't consider that the advertised warranty for Rigid has any worth behind the claims. I'd love if they actually resolved this issue, but I don't see that they will. "This table saw is backed by the Industry’s Only Lifetime Service Agreement, simply register within 90 days of purchase for Free Parts, Free Service, For Life." - Not my experience....

I wanted a compact table saw to take with me vs the larger saw I have with folding legs. The saw was compact and light weight yet durable. I also bought this on sale so the price point was also a draw vs another saw of similar size and weight. I set it up the other night. The blade and riving knife needed no adjusts but the rip fence was off 1/8". I found the best way to square if up was to partial lock down the locking lever and use a speed square to hold it in position then secure the bolts on the top of the fence. The two negatives I see is that the gears to raise and lower the blade are plastic, time will tell how they hold up and the other issue is I don't like having the extension lock lever on the table top vs under the table. This prevents me from sliding the table up to a cut board and lock it down. The othe issue is when you extend the table the top tends to move. I flipped the saw over and tightend the two bolts that are part of the lock lever. This seems to help.

I am new to this tool so my review might not be adequate to persuade anyone's buying choice but rather for information purposes only. I have done everything by the book, so to speak in reference to setting it up but I can't get the blade to stay locked at 0° with the wheel handle. It always goes to 1° or 2° as is resting position no matter how tight I make the brake. I can't get the anti kickback system to lock on correctly and the rail guide doesn't lock down on the left side, only on the right side when the extension is pulled out to its maximum capacity (for ripping wide panels or doors). So as a newbie, I think I need more experience and practice before a real review can be taken seriously here.

I purchased the "no stand" version of this saw (R45171NS) that was available in December 2018. This is hands down the best table saw I've ever owned. Mind you I have never spent a mint on a table saw, but for the money, this is one great saw. It has adjustments for squaring the blade, adjusting the tilt, and calibrating the fence. With some very minor tuning out of the box, I am able to cut remarkably accurate cuts using the gauge on the fence. The soft start feature is great and eases the power draw so that the lights don't dim when you turn it on. It is also fairly quiet for an inexpensive table saw. Finally, I love the fact that it is so portable, I store mine on a shelf sitting on its left side. This side of the table and the cord manager have pads for the purpose of letting it sit on end. Bottom line, this is a great saw and a joy to use.

Biggest deciding factory in my choice was the value I thought I was getting with a Lifetime Service Agreement. This was my first (and last Ridgid) purchase. I tend to stick to Dewalt or Makita, but since my table saw use would be minimal so I didnt see the need to spend the extra money with a Lifetime Warranty in play. ******BUYER BEWARE******* No where on the outside of the box, the receipt, or the Home Depot store associate let me know that the registration must be complete within 90 days. There is fine print in the manual stating that fact. Hoping the metal working parts will hold up better than the flimsy outside plastic feels since any repairs seem to be coming out of my pocket. It "qualifies" for a limited 3 warranty now, but who knows what they will actually cover if it is ever needed. Lesson to be learned is just buy the quality power tools that you know will last, and don't rely on gimmicks to sell. I will consider upgrading my review if it lasts over the 5 year mark.

I have the R4516 in my shoppe and have had the opportunity to review the R45171. While I like both power tools I must admit that the R45171 has some features that I really like. It has a larger rip capacity and comes with a stand which the R4516 does not. It also has a soft start motor which according to RIDGID: "Soft Start reduces the torque and the load temporarily during the startup process. It applies a gradually increasing voltage to the motor resulting in smooth acceleration as well as reducing the mechanical stress on the shaft and motor." I like to keep my car in the garage which means I have to put everything away when I am done with a project. Even though it does have a larger rip capacity it still has a small foot print in my garage. I did a video review which you can see here: https://youtu.be/uRWXalvmiBI One of the reasons I like the RIDGID line is the Lifetime Service Agreement. If you are looking for a decent table saw with many of the features of more expensive brands this may be the saw for you.

After light use of this saw for one day, a few things stand out: 1) The fence is terrible. It flexes back & forth almost 1/4" at the back, so you must hold it consistently every time or it will either give you bad measurement or worse, be angled toward the blade binding the wood and potentially lifting and throwing it back in your face. The fence is the #1 sign of table saw quality. Everything else is just accessories. 2) The measurement tape on the fence is cluttered with 1/32" marks. This doesn't make a saw more accurate, it makes it LESS accurate. You can't see the measurement at a glace, it's too busy and difficult to read. This is the kind of thing that no craftsman or tradesman would ever want on their tool, but some guy in the marketing department thought it would make it look "more precise". 3) The saw & stand took an hour to assemble even with a full socket set and a screw gun. It was a waste of my time. 4) After ripping 5 or 6 2x4s the blade wouldn't raise up anymore. The jack screw was already loaded with saw dust and binding up. I'm going to have to clean off all the factory grease and replace it with a dry Teflon spray or something. This is a common problem with table saws, but it usually takes 6 months to a year to jamb up... not a couple of hours. 5) The motor is excellent. Despite the other issues I have with this saw, it's incredibly quiet for a table saw and the soft-start is wonderful. It did bog down cutting 2x4s, but I'll have to put a better blade on it before passing judgement on it's power.

I've only had this a day, but was super impressed when I ran my first board through it. This thing has loads of power and made perfectly straight cuts right out of the box. See pic with my new saw and the completed windows... Got them installed in no time since I was able to quickly slice all the boards needed to fit the opening to the window. Only negative was trying to install the pawl and blade guard. The instructions tell you to raise the blade and snap it into place... But neglected to mention that nothing will fit right until you lower the blade all the way, remove the throat plate, unlock the riving knife and move it from the lowest to highest position, then lock it, replace the throat plate and raise the blade. Took me a while to figure out why the instructions simply didn't work.... Had no idea there were multiple positions for the riving knife and they start you in the wrong one, on my saw anyway.
