Questions & Answers

how sturdy is the stand

how sturdy is the stand
Asked by: tmann4usa
I used the stand for 2 years, storing my saw against a wall. Little by little the tubing bent at the handle which rests on the ground and holds the saw in place. Once bent, it can't be bent back into place. Now the stand is pretty worthless.

Can this saw be stored on the cart vertically when not in use?

Asked by: JP44
Just beware it is a strong stand but after two years of standing and transporting mine on end in my trailer my stand bent where it curves on the part it rest on when stored vertically and it becomes a real pain to store vertically after that happens. I dealt with it for 3 more years this way but just know it is sturdy but not indestructible. I am buying another one today because its a great saw but will pay more attention this go around when storing vertically. Also always store the rip fence and do not leave it attached on top (which is an easy habit to start) when transporting it has tweaked mine and no longer gives a straight edge . But I got 5 or more years from my first one I plan on getting 10 outta my 2nd one. Thanks

can i use a dato blade with this saw

Asked by: tommy
It akes a 6" dado stack. An 8" stack will have clearance issues with the riving knife lever. Also, you'll need a throat plate for the dado stack. Oddly, Home Depot does not sell a 6" dado stack or a dado throat plate for their own saw. Just bizarre. You'll have to find it elsewhere.

Can soft-start circuitry be added to this saw? If so, what will it cost?

Soft-start is a deal-breaker on this Ridgid saw because of the surge it will put on breakers and fuses. If this saw is not available with it I'll be buying the Bosch 4100 which DOES have soft-start.
Asked by: Luke
The soft start circuit is junk, i have had to replace 3 in the last 7 years and now they no longer make the one for my saw and will not honor the lifetime service on it.

15 Amp Corded 10 in. Heavy-Duty Portable Table Saw with Stand is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 1508.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Very satisfied with with this saw I'm very pleased, so far, with this saw. It does exactly what I expect of it. It has ripped a number of 2x6s with ease. Fence need only a minor adjustment to true it up. Easily done. Instructions were ease to follow for set up. The stand on wheels make it very easy to move the saw out of the way in my small workshop. Also light enough for me to move out of the shop easily by myself. I was also very pleased with the delivery...right to my door, and help from the courier to get the large box into my workshop to assemble. Better than picking it up at the store. The only thing I wish this saw had that a previous saw of mine did have was a table extender build in at the back of the saw. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it for home workshop use. I don't know how it would stand up to the demands of a construction site and everyday use. It seems hefty enough. I just have not put it through those paces.

I own a wood floor installation and refinishing business, and have gone through more than my share of table saws. I purchased this saw back in 2010, and it did very well, but eventually the gear box went out, which is a weak point of these saws, and I took it in for repair. Quoted $350, noticed they had the new version (this version) of this saw on sale for $299 so I picked it up and left the old one. Well, the new version isn't near as nice as the old. The plastic is much weaker, fence is a downgrade, and the folding stand is not anywhere near as solid and stable. They cheapened nearly every component on the saw possible. With that said, $300 for this saw makes it average. NO WAY would I pay 500+ when you can get a Bosch or the larger Dewalt. My business has converted over to the smaller Dewalt 745 with stands since we don't need a large table, and the Dewalts are built a lot sturdier. Why did Ridgid have to go cheap on the saw? It was nice in it's previous versions, now it's a cheap weekend warrior saw.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good Saw I recently needed a saw to rip 1x6x12 for fencing. I looked at a number of saws, read reviews and settled on this one. The lifetime warranty is hard to beat. I did not see any other manufacturers offering lifetime warranties. There may be better saws but this is a great value at this price. It is sturdy while ripping lumber, unlike the cheaper portable table saws I looked at. The collapsible stand is easy to work and works perfectly. The only caveat is to buy a better blade when you purchase this saw. The OEM blade is not horrible but it is not great either. And you will need another blade anyway so you might as well pick one up with the saw. I took advantage of the 6 months same as cash. The rip fence measurements are 100% accurate. Just take time to follow the set up procedures in the manual before using this saw. I did not find anything out of alignment but I felt better following the suggested procedures out of the box for both safety and quality of set up.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great saw, want dedicated power I have only owned this saw a few days but can already tell I made the right choice. It was between the Bosch and the ridgid. The saw is strong, sturdy and smooth. The smooth start is awsome and the fence in super accurate. The only things I have found so far that are easly fixed are the circuit you run it on and a few minor gaps in the dust collection area. I ended up runnIng and dedicated 20 amp circuit for the saw as it was popping my 15 amp for the garage very easily. However, with any strong 15 amp tool this should happen. It's a good sign its a strong motor. The only other modification I will make is sealing in the table to the dust collection system so it collects more dust... But hay it's a table saw theres going to be dust. If you want a perfect collection system buy a cabinet saw. The only nother minor complaint is the pitch of the motor, it kind of has that high pitch circular saw whine but keep in mind if your smart eye and ear protection is in use and it doesent matter.

Looking at this saw in store youd be tricked into thinking it was heavy duty and quality. The fence is amazing, the extension table is solid. However once you get it home youll find that all of the parts that matter are complete junk. The "trunions" are 1/8 inch thick sheet metal arches.... only supported on one end at that. The blade will not stay at 90 degrees. Raising and lowering the blade nearly breaks off the plastic handles. The motor mount MOVES 1/8" while "locked down"! With this being a direct drive, this means the blade its self can be wiggled the same amount! The mount is supported by a single threaded rod on one side of the mount.... how on earth this saw is ever supposed to be used for anything more than ripping plywood for home construction is beyond me. Unfortunately i waited too long for a refund before getting around to really using the saw. Oh also... having no soft start means the entire table jumps on power up and will murder any zero clearance plate you place on it.

I'm giving this 2 Stars for now because the hand crank broke after 5 months of use. I will edit this review if Ridgid comes through with a resolution. The hand crank to raise and lower the blade is made of injection molded plastic, and after 5 months of regular use raising and lower the blade, the piece has cracked, rending the saw pretty much useless because I cannot turn the gear to raise/lower my blade. I do really like the saw and have had good experience using it till this piece broke. The Fence is really nice and seems very stable when you lock it in. It was also pretty easy to get the fence perfectly calibrated. Dust collection is not that great because the bottom of the saw cabinet is quite open, but I did make a zero clearance insert that helped a bit. I really think this piece should not be made of plastic. I did register my saw with Rigid Lifetime Warranty so we'll see how that process goes... I will update this review to share experience with the warranty. Want to reiterate that I do like this saw a lot besides my experience with this piece cracking.

I have had my saw for 3 years now, and overall I have been very satisfied with the saw. Features were good, I liked the fact that everything from the fence to the guards had a storage place on the saw. Power was acceptable and adjusting the blades was quick and consistent. However, I wanted to provide my experience with the Lifetime Service Agreement (LSA). My motor burned out right at the end of the normal warranty (3 yrs + 1 week). Thank goodness I remembered to fill out the LSA paperwork. I looked up the claim procedure and carried my saw to the nearest authorized service center (not the place of purchase), which in my case was inconvenient (over 60 miles away). Then the service center (an independent repair shop) files a claim with Ridgid and makes the repair. My saw has now been in the shop for 6 months. The repairman claims he has been unable to get a replacement motor from Ridgid. What use is the LSA if it takes months to get a repair?

It has all the portability you need for a table saw, especially with the collapsible table. However, prior to purchasing this saw I used an older model which is light years ahead of this saw in build quality. I understand the desire to make things cheaper, but not when it comes to the parts used most. I purchased this saw in October 2018 and while using this weekend in January 2019, the knob for raising/lowering the blade snapped off in my hand. Cheap plastic material for something that should be metal. A call in to Ridgid warranty provides me a service center phone number. The service center can only do the repairs in house since it's warranty and the lead time is 4 weeks minimum. It's a simple bolt on part. One would think they could order the part and provide it to a customer for installation, but no. This is unacceptable for a tool that Home Depot advertises to contractors for a jobsite saw. How can anyone trying to make a living have one of their most important tools down for one month over a $10 part? I'll be purchasing the part on my own to repair and will likely sell this saw and purchase something that is REAL quality because this just isn't.
