As long as your older RIDGID tools are 18 volts the new batteries will power them. The older charger may not charge them though. These are lithium-ion batteries so nickel cadmium chargers will not charge them. In exclusive brands to Home Depot, Ridgid would be in the middle between Ryobi and Milwaukee. Its the best of both worlds (not quite consumer grade, not quite contractor grade). I bought it for my uncle in Mexico who works in low to mid level construction, so this is perfect for him. The hammer drill is the most important feature, as most homes in Mexico are made out of brick and concrete. In the technical part, its very modern. The motor is brushless (more power and battery efficiency), it uses lithium ion batteries (not heavy NiCd), the batteries have charge level indicators, & the drill has an LED light for use on low light areas. The drill chuck is a Jacobs brand and made of metal (not hard plastic). It also has a 2 speed transmission (not to be confused with variable speed on the trigger or torque settings). One thing I don't like is that the mode settings are separated from the torque settings and not together like they usually are on most drills.
Even though I purchased it here in the United States in store, I wasn't able to register for the lifetime service agreement since it might be only for Canada & the United States, but Ridgid is available in Home Depot Mexico, so parts or service wont be that much of a problem.
5 Stars. Not a DeWalt or Milwaukee, but it has their spirit.

Love this drill! My previous was on the verge of burnout while I was working onsite installing tables at client's homes. I was so nervous to find one that would be able to stand up with our work flow- this one has been killing it so far.
I build tables and millwork from hardwoods and steel, so we needed a drill with power.
I would recommend this drill to everyone, but especially folks who are working with hardwoods.

So far, So good!!!
I got this about a week before Thanksgiving.
Straight out of the bag (which I hate) the batteries were at 75% charge and were ready to go to work.
It took a week of working on a daily basis with the drill and the batteries finally needed charged.
The power, battery life with the brushless motor are great.
Previously with De-yellow drill, it took 3 fully charged batteries to wind up a mile of electric fence wiring on a spool.
This time I used my new Ridgid hammer drill and I was impressed. When I started the day, the battery was at 75% and started out great. After running this spool with the drill, sometimes it was under a heavy load, it was amazing. When I was all done, the battery was still at 50%
I am so happy with this drill, especially with the warranty on the drill and batteries.
Way to go Ridgid.
The bad!!! Just the BAG that SUCKS!!!
The zipper is so light weight, good luck using it without breaking it. I was so frustrated with this soft bag the first day, I had to purchase the Ridgid hard case for another $30 bucks.
Ridgid definitely missed the target on the bag/box with this tool. I dealt with moisture inside the bag and immediately fixed the problem

Bought this unit to go with my 24v combo kit I bought 15 years ago. I didn't want to say it's a replacement for my 24v hammer drill because that's still going strong. I bought it because I wanted something that was more compact and had more torque. I use it primarily for my ice auger so weight and torque were big factors. I keep coming back to Ridgid because of their warranty and their tools seem to last for what I use them for. Price was pretty good when compared to other brands. Overall very satisfied.

Can't speak to this particular gun, but had the same one years ago, the 15 minute rechargeable in-cad, it was a beast, kinda like this one, the batteries began to fade, so I gifted it to a coworker, I then switched to the Dewalt hammer drill and driver kit, XRP model of course, the D batteries are beginning to die, can't justify $99 for 2 in-cads, I don't have any other Ni-cad tools, I know this is a good gun, it caries the Ridgid name, but the "add a bare tool" made it a no-brain'r, My add a bare tool is the 4 amp hr twin pack, so I have 4 batteries, no need to drag the charger around at all, a name brand hammer drill kit with 4 lithium bats, seriously, gonna grab another tool with the money I saved, probably a light, maybe the router, great deal peeps.

Great balance of weight. So far, I only have the 2.0Ah batteries and this guy doesn't stop. I only used one time for actual masonry and did an good job. I use this, mostly, as regular drill most of the time. Noticed I drilled hundreds pocket holes (Kreg) with this. The battery was finally on low, but still kept going. Never actually got it to die. (Hope I didn't waste my $$ getting some 4.0Ah!). On-board battery gauge may be my favorite feature. When having "trouble" or feed feels a bit different, it helps rule out if it is your material, your bit or your battery. Excellent bit jaw. Haven't had anything come falling out (or slip) yet, even with round bits. I used the DeWalt at work but went with Rigid as I have always liked their power tools and lifetime batteries sold me over. Do not see a power or feature difference between the two. There IS a high pitch squeal when operating that I read on reviews before buying. I maybe only noticed because I was listening for it. Almost as a pneumatic wrench but weaker sound. Almost sexy sound if you love your tools. Not bothersome (I hate noises) but noticeable.

This drill fits comfortably in your hands while using, battery is exceptional, it is easy to use, the hammer drill is not hard on your hands or noisy. It drives screws easily into wood as I screwed down sheets of plywood replacing my kitchen floor. Just remember to register for the lifetime service agreement..
