Why do you recommend a 4h battery but sell your kits with only a 2h battery. This is frustrating. Marketing strategy?

The obvious answer is to get you to buy the 4amp hour battery

I heard this item is being discontinued, is that correct? If so what are the plans for the new saw blade size? Thanks.

Asked by: Jimp1023
I've owned this item for about a year and I haven't heard any changes in Ridgid's line up, unless they are adding a quieter blushless model like the newer drill version Ridgid released more recently. But honestly on a circular saw it would be a pointless endeavor.

18-Volt Cordless Brushless 7-1/4 in. Circular Saw (Tool-Only) is rated 4.5 out of 5 by 471.

I wanted a cordless circular saw and this saw was a natural fit because all of my other power tools are in the RIDGID 18v family. Saw has great features and performed every bit as well as I expected for a battery powered saw. Used it to cut 2x4s, 23/32 plywood and 3/4 MDF to build an 8’ long by 2’ deep workbench. Started with a battery that wasn’t fully charged and almost finished the job on the same battery. Only switched to a fresh battery for the plywood so I wouldn’t lose speed and start to chip and splinter too bad. The only thing I feel RIDGID left to be desired with this saw is the blade guard. I’d prefer a lightweight metal to plastic but I don’t beat up on my tools so it should work fine for me. Would highly recommend this saw to any DIYer or even the pro who needs to have a battery powered saw for tight spaces where cords just get in the way.

First use, I tried to cut through three layers of 3/4" plywood and saw continuously quit working. I thought battery might be loose, but wasn't. Wore down fully-charged battery in 10 minutes. Decided to try to cut through one layer (3/4 in.) at a time, and it did the same thing with a second fully-charged battery. I've read other reviews that state the same problem with this saw. I returned an 18-Volt Cordless Brushless 4-1/2 in. angle grinder that had the same lack of performance. That is, wore down a battery in 10 minutes. In their defense, I own 2 RIDGID cordless drills, a RIDGID vacuum cleaner with good performance, although the first drill that I've owned for years wears down batteries just sitting around and have to continually remove and reinstall the battery so it will work. The newer drill performs great so far. I also have a corded RIDID belt sander that I haven't used enough to determine the quality or performance. This has me questioning RIDGID's cordless tools and even the RIDGID brand, which I'm sad to say. I considered RIDGID's corded saw for $99 to replace the R8653B cordless I returned, but even with RIDGID's Lifetime Warranty, decided on one of their competitor's with a higher rating, not just on here, but also on internet reviews. Even with it being $39 more, I wanted to buy a tool that I believe will serve me better and will perform monumentally better.

I use this for my construction contracting business and it holds up great. Having a battery saw that uses a full size blade is handy. You can pick any of common blades and it has enough power to pull it through cross cuts, and can even rip 2x and sheet goods. The base plate is thick and durable. Exceeded my expectations and glad to have it to add to my full line of Ridgid impacts, drills, close cut saw, drywall zip tool, grinder..etc. Everything uses the same batteries.

I don't write a lot of reviews, but I will say my experience to date with this saw as been anything but spectacular. I am a huge fan of Ridgid. I have their, miter saw, table saw, vacuum, cordless drill and impact set; all have meet all my expectations which is why I was so so disappointed in this saw. I am remodeling my home, I needed a saw that would just do the occasional quick cut for me and if it worked well I would gradually test it further. My first cut with the brand new saw was 3/4" MDF board. I didn't get 6 inches and it stopped. Backed it up restarted it (got to speed) started again it quit.. Ok, no problem maybe the battery was low. Put in a fresh battery, woo hoo made it a foot before it stopped. What? I have since tried other cuts, seems ok with any cut under say 15 seconds. Quick cuts, but to make a long cut such as ripping MDF it seems to just stop.... I don't see the power others have, and I really wish I did. I like Ridgid but not sure I like this saw. I was a contractor for many years so I do know how to use hand and power tools, I just can't believe how gutless this seems to be. Perhaps it change my mind as I use it (or try to) But for now, I can't recommend it to anyone who is looking for a saw for anything other than maybe cutting 1/4" plywood. Pros: I do like the sled they built into it. The sight slot for cutting along the line is nice how it is designed Feels good in my hands, well balanced Cons: So far no power, or longevity to do any cut over 15 secs in one pass I will update this if I find the power others have talked about, but for now sadly only a 2 star

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Needs the beefier 6.0 or 9.0 battery Excellent saw. I don’t like where the knob on the bevel adjustment is, but I pulled the t-20 head screw out and readjusted it. Where it’s currently at it’s hard to pinch the shoe and make rough rip cuts at work. Good saw however as the titles say their newer batteries make it a completely different tool. As all the other reviews said toss the blade and put a diablo on there.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The blade speed is a little slow, which makes sense... The blade speed is a little slow, which makes sense for a battery powered tool. It has a lot of torque, which also makes sense for a battery powered tool. The blade the saw comes with is a functional demo blade, to say the best, so don’t expect too much from it. Overall, it’s a good circular saw.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I have only had one chance to use this saw... I have only had one chance to use this saw since purchase. This was cutting 24 4x4s to various sizes and it worked very well. It still had power to spare after I was done so I cannot complain. we will see in the long term but I cannot foresee any issues with normal usage.
