        Quality Drill/Driver set
RIDGID has a pretty well-deserved reputation for well-made, heavy-duty tools, and this drill and driver each seem to live up to that reputation. Both deliver quite high torque, whether drilling into hardwood or driving a tapcon screw into concrete. I haven't had occasion to really drain the battery yet, but it's lasted through a few hours work, so I think it will do just fine. The only drawback to this set, if you can call it that, is that the drill does not have a hammer setting. Not a dealbreaker, but something you should consider if you plan to be drilling into stone. It does, however, have two speed settings, which is quite nice, with the higher speed making short work of wood while the lower speed is appropriately slow for drilling metal.

        Great Drill with Great Warranty
This is a great package deal from Ridgid Tools containing both a variable speed drill and a variable speed impact driver, together with two 18 volt, 2 amp-hour batteries and a charger. This all fits into a semi-rigid nylon case. The drill differs slightly with some models that also have a hammer drill setting, which this tool does not. There is a kit available with that option, but I already have a heavier-duty hammer drill and find that I need one less that one percent of the time that I need a drill or driver so it isn’t a problem for me. Accessories include a side handle kit for the drill, belt clips for each and two screwdriver bits which attaches to either tool. The batteries charged in about 60-70 minutes each. The charger is the style with a wall wort transformer and a small diameter cord to the charging port, which can be attached to the wall if desired. I would rather the two units be a single assembly, since the cord seems to be the most fragile part of the charging unit and more likely to be damaged on the jobsite than a normal 120 volt cord. Both of the tools are well balanced and feel natural to use in the hand. Each has a spot light at the lower battery section of the tool which seems like it illuminates the work area very well. The tool kit is in the same price ball park as the other top three brands (Milwaukee, Dewalt and Makita) in both performance and price. There are personal preferences with each that may be the deciding factor, but I like the long warranty of the Ridgid, which also includes batteries, normally a major replacement cost and the reason I wont go back to the yellow brand. A couple other things that Iike about the Ridgid are how smooth the motors operate and how responsive the trigger is to speed control. An investment in a battery tool should be thought of as an investment in a brand’s line-up of tools. Once you commit to a brand and like it, it makes sense to stick with the same brand due to the interchangeability of batteries and charging. I don’t see how you can go wrong with the Ridgid line-up, especially since it is widely available at Home Depot and has an excellent lifetime warranty if you register the tool online within 90 days. This alone can save many hundreds of dollars over the years.

        Great tool kit
My husband was so happy when he received this RIDGID 18V Brushless Cordless 2-Tool Combo Kit with Drill/Driver, Impact Driver, (2) Batteries, 18V Charger, and Tool Bag. It comes with everything he needs for work around the house. With two batteries and a charger, he is always ready for projects and the Drill/Driver and Impact Driver make it possible to take on almost anything that needs to be done. The bag is an added bonus, as he can keep it all together for when he needs to grab it and go. The tools are powerful and the batteries really hold a charge.

        HEAVY Duty
These are the weight-iest power tools I've ever used. I have Dewault, Skil, and Ryobi, and even Milwaukee. However, none of them are as solid. There is absolutely no wobble in either drill, unlike some competitors. They are like using hand-held drill presses. I am going to put in quick-change bits since the work I do does not require such precision. Rest assured, though, that these products- with their zero tolerances- should last for decades. The 2AH batteries took about 1 hour and 5 minutes each to charge using the provided/included charger. I used the same charger on a 4AH battery and that took 3 hours and 20 minutes as a brand new charge. Even the 2AH batteries seem to have more power than those of say Ryobi or even DeWalt. In addition to the stellar performance, the bag is a really nice touch to help keep everything together. Speaking of together, not only does Rigid supply you with a belt clip and bit holder for each drill, they give you a bit for each drill, too. This is the first kit I've ever ordered that had that level of thoughtfulness. They really considered the whole user process when putting together this kit, and the quality is unmatched by any rival brand I've tried.

These are well made, quality tools.
I picked up this Drill/Driver and Impact Driver combo kit after using RIDGID’s new 18V multi-tool. Like the multi-tool, both the drill/driver and impact driver bodies are solid and fit comfortably in your hand. The handle/grip on each tool is covered with a gray rubberized material that helps secure your grip on the tool. These are NOT Sub-Compact tools, they do have a little weight to them, but I believe that comes from how well the tools are constructed. Depending on where and how you use these tools, the extra weight might be an issue for you. The brushless Drill/Driver, model# R86114, has a 1/2 in. metal ratcheting chuck, 2 speed gear box, and 24-position clutch ring for torque adjustments. The smooth action trigger makes controlling your startup speed very easy. The tool has a LED light on the base of the drill that shines a light on your work surface. Using the MAX Output batteries that came in this kit, I had no problems drilling or driving screws into my project surfaces. The only feature this drill/driver doesn’t have is an integrated hammer mode. So, if you drill into concrete, masonry or stone often, you may want to buy RIDGID’s 18V drill/driver with a Hammer Mode. The brushless Impact Driver, model# R862301, has a 1/4 in. spring-loaded, quick-release chuck that accepts 1/4-inch hex shank driver bits. You’ll need to use impact-rated 1/4 in. hex bits. Plain 1/4 in hex bits typically used in a drill/driver may not hold up in an impact driver. I recently used my impact driver for installing gutters and liked the fact that I was able to drive the gutter bracket fasteners quickly with one hand while standing on a ladder. I found it easy to regulate driving speed with the variable speed trigger but it took a few tries. Self-tapping screws in gutter metal were easy to get started, but I had to be careful not to strip them out. It would be nice to have a multiple speed selector switch like on the drill/driver for precision work. RIDGID dose make an impact driver with this feature. Also, since the collar around the quick release chuck doesn’t rotate, it would be nice to have the LED lights positioned around the chuck similar to other brands. For smaller screws, you might be better off using the drill/driver depending on thickness and length of screws. This kit came with (2) 2Ah MAX Output batteries and a R86093 Single Battery Charger. It took about 60 minutes to charge each battery using this charger. Also, included in this kit was an Auxiliary Handle for the Drill/Driver, 2 Belt Hooks, 2 Bit Holders, and a soft sided RIDGID branded tool bag. Both Drill/Driver and Impact Driver are compatible with all RIDGID’s 18V batteries. These are well made, quality tools and they come with a Lifetime Service Agreement, simply register within 90 days of purchase for free parts, free service, for life.

Well made, powerful and easy to use
Slightly on the heavy side and powerful enough to drive in big lag bolts with plenty of battery to start and finish most jobs make this a nice set to have. The Ridgid 18-volt lithium-Ion Drill/Driver and Impact Driver combo set can cover about everything a homeowner would run across with the ability to move into the professional work arena with no problem. The combo set consists of one R86114 Drill -Driver, one R862301 impact Driver (not the R862311 shown on the HD website), two Lithium-Ion 2Ah batteries, one charger, one carry/storage bag, and multiple belt clip and handle attachments. The Drill-Driver is NOT a hammer drill, so the additional auxiliary handle makes little sense to me and just adds bulk and weight to an already hefty tool. The belt clip-bit holder however can and does come in handy and can be installed on either side. The torque limiter is smooth to operate and works perfectly. The drill has two-speed settings 0-500 and then to 2,100 giving the operator a good choice between torque and speed. The trigger is variable and works smoothly. A bright enough LED light is located on top of the battery pack and towards the front. The handle has comfort grip covering but there is no real bumper protection on the rest of the tool so drops could be severe to the tool’s life. The forward-reverse switch is slightly sloppy and acts as a trigger lock if moved to the center position. The keyless, three-jaw chuck holds drills firmly and you can swap out drills quickly and smoothly. The Impact driver does not have torque control, but the variable trigger can compensate for that a little. Same LED light, sloppy forward-reverse selector, belt clip-bit holder, and comfort grip with no additional bumping as with the drill. The ¼” bit holder hex chuck is easy to operate one-handed, popping the bit out when pulled forward and securely holding the bit when installed. I tested the drill by using a ¾” wood bit on a pressure treated 4x4, and the drill made short work of it, very impressed. Not sure but the extra weight may just be what is needed to help stabilize the tool when aggressively going through tougher material. For the impact driver, I drove five different size lag bolts all the way up to 5/8” with no issues at all. I can see that if you’re not careful the tool is powerful enough to snap off the lag bolt so pilot holes may be prudent in harder woods. The 2Ah Lithium-Ion batteries just kept marching along never giving me any indication that I was going to run out of juice. There is a power level indicator on the battery, and I barely use a ¼ in my testing so good battery life. The batteries fully charged in less than one hour. I found these tools to be well made and functioned perfectly with no performance issues. My only complaint is the lack of bumping to help protect the tool in case of accidental drops and falls. The picture on the HD website of the Impact driver shows model R862311 which is a three-speed driver and not what came in the box. Made in China, recommended.

Excellent Quality, arguably missing a couple features (that may not matter to you)
First of all, I really like the quality and feel of these tools. I bought an earlier version of this same kit in 2014 and the updates to these tools in terms of performance, build quality, fit, finish, and feel make them much more competitive with other top brands. Also, the redesigned batteries are nicer and the charger is worlds better than the previous one and amazingly compact. Overall, I think these are excellent tools and I continue to be impressed by Ridgid. A couple other features worth mentioning is they both have highly sensitive triggers. You can really dial in the rpm’s between settings with the trigger, giving you excellent control. Also, the impact driver has the easy in, easy out feature for hex bits. You can push the bit in without having to lift the locking ring, and when you do lift the ring, it ejects the bit into your other waiting hand. No need to hold the ring down and extract the bit at the same time. That being said, there are two key features that are standard in most 18v drill driver combo kits that are missing: 1. No hammer drill mode on the drill. I don’t like carrying around an extra hammer drill for the occasions I need to drill through concrete and unfortunately this is a powerful drill but no hammering capability. 2. The impact driver has only one setting. This is somewhat mitigated by its excellent trigger control, but I like the 3 mode feature on a competing brand (a red tool also sold by Home Depot ;) ). Beyond that, these tools feel every bit as quality as the red and yellow competitors. One last thing is more a personal preference: I tend not to wear gloves and these handles are very aggressive, which would give excellent retention while using gloves, but I prefer some of the softer handles competitors offer. Again, it’s a personal preference and a deliberate design move on Ridgid’s part, and I can’t fault them nor do I dislike their handles overall. Overall, their handles are ergonomic and very grippy. So another solid offering for Ridgid with the caveat of the two features missing that I consider standard in this weight class so to speak.

Nice kit for DIYer (price/performance) but lacks refinement (heavy, big/bulky)
There is a lot to like about this combo kit from Ridgid. I compared this kit to my older, but go-to Makita brushless drill/driver. This is how it stacked up. Looking at each individually I’ll start with the drill. On the Pro side of things: The Ridgid has a superior chuck to the Makita. It never slipped or came loose unlike the Makita which always seems to need a second tightening. The LED on the Ridgid (mounted on the base) works just as well as Makita (mounted below the chuck). The Ridgid is a powerful drill that spins at a relatively high RPM. On the Minus side. The Ridgid drill is heavy. You pay for that extra power with extra weight. It’s 20% heavier than the Makita and you notice it. The battery pack for these Ridgid tools is also larger and bulkier. Surprising because it seems everyone is figuring out how to make their batteries smaller (i.e., DeWalt’s new Powerstack battery). They also are a bit slower than the competition to charge. Taking about 50 minutes from empty to full (DeWalt/Makita less than 30..same Ah battery). The Driver is just a puzzling. It is significantly larger than the Makita driver. The driver has plenty of power, easily snapping off 1/4 inch lag bolts (see photo). But do I need that much power? I had to be extra careful not to over-drive screws. The Makita allows you to change the speed and torque output of the driver. There are no controls on the Ridgid except your trigger finger. Again all that power comes at a cost of weight. Tool-only it was more than a quarter pound heavier than the Makita. 5 ounces You feel the extra weight. Also the Ridgid is loud. Not only when it is hammering (that’s expected) but soon as you fire it up. Not as refined as the Makita or even my Milwaukee. I think this kit is perfect for two types of people. First off if you already own the Ridgid battery system you might as well stick with it. This kit will get the job done. Secondly, if you are a DIYer that is looking for your first kit this kit has max power and not too expensive. But overall this kit is not an advancement over the competition and I would rate it an average value or “C” grade. There is nothing wrong with average.

A great kit for the do-it-yourselfer and professional.
RIDGID 18V Brushless Cordless 2-Tool Combo Kit with Drill/Driver, Impact Driver, (2) Batteries, 18V Charger, and Tool Bag Pros: Rugged construction, two-tools-in-one kit, two rechargeable batteries, one charger, canvas tote bag, one battery fits all Ridgid 18 volt power tools, life-time warranty. Cons: Only one charger for two batteries. What I like about this kit is that with dual tools and dual batteries, drilling holes and inserting screws becomes an easy job that does not require the removal of a drill bit and insertion of a screw driver bit that would be the case with a single drill. The drill is a ½ inch 18 volt, reversible, variable speed drill. The tool feels well balanced and is not overly heavy even with the battery installed. The impact driver is a 2300 in-lbs, with a ¼ inch hex shank. The driver is also well balanced and feels comfortable in the hand. The kit comes with a battery charger. Unfortunately, the charger can charge only one battery at a time even though the kit comes with two batteries. On the bright side, batteries charge fully in about an hour. Both tools have an led spot work light that comes on when the tool is turned on. The kit also comes equipped with belt hooks for both tools and a handle for the drill. The canvas tote bag is rugged and can house both tools at the same time along with the charger. Finally, the tools come with a lifetime service and parts guarantee. This is a great tool kit for the do it yourselfer or professional. Highly recommended.
