AnswersI have this exact same issue. I came to HD.com to see if anyone else is experiencing this issue. I have a Bosch corded sander and use it with no issues. I absolutely love that ROS. I want to love this thing, but it's just all over the board and hard to control. I have let others use the Bosch and then the Ridgid and they are like, what in the heck is wrong with thing thing. Unfortunately it's a paper weight. I may call customer service and see if they are willing to work with it. Otherwise, it will just sit on the shelf collecting dust instead of making it lol!!

AnswersI am glad they sell this as a bare tool because it keeps cost down, I own 17 Ridgid 18volt tools and I have 9 batteries so the last thing I want is to have to pay extra money for a battery that I do not need!

AnswersThe aH is not relevant, except as it relates to the length of time you can use the tool. It is the voltage that matters, so any 18v RIDGID battery will work with the tool.

AnswersYes it is very good for sanding cabinets. In fact I use this sander for just that. However it is slow compared to electric models and should be considered a touch up sander if you are building new cabinets. If you are refinishing cabinets it will work very well. This sander has a very small oscillating orbit and so it is nice for fine finishing.

It is a nice compact charger. I do not have any problems with it at all. I like the slim-line light-weight . It fits in my large cargo pocket to and from work sites. Also, it is a fast charging unit for the recharged battery to be charged. It comes with plug in for the outlet, then put the recharged battery to be charged. It does not include battery.

I'm a relative newcomer to Rigid power tools, I had been using a "yellow" brand previously, and found Rigid when I had to replace a battery and discovered the cost of a replacement battery was the same price as a Rigid battery AND a tool!
Now that I have several Rigid tools, I wanted to get a couple more batteries. The Rigid warranty protects you with replacement batteries, FYI. Now I needed a spare charger too.
This is a small, compact charger, it does the job. It is not a quick charger though, so don't be confused when your batteries doesn't charge fully in a few minutes.
It's easy to mount, it's light and it can easily fit in a tool bag just in case.

Ridgid's new charger is definitely smaller than the older vintage which I have used for years. It also has some different characteristics that I was a bit surprised at. I have a Ridgid NiCd battery pack that just recently went bad. For some reason which I haven't taken the time to figure out, it will only charge to ~10V. My old changer tries to charge it, and it takes roughly 5-10 minutes before it gives up and flashes the "Bad Battery" code. The new one, from all appearances, won't even try to charge it. It just keeps the steady 'on' LED on, with no flashing or any other indication that it was attempting to charge it or test it. It makes me wonder if I completely discharged another pack if it would refuse to charge once the voltage got below a certain point even though the pack was OK. Except for this, it has charged my NiCd and Lithium batteries without issue. I don't sense that it's any faster than the old one; if it is, the difference is minimal. I do like the ability to mount the charger on a wall, although I think there would be a tendency to pull the charger loose as you removed the battery once the charge was done.
I did notice that the Ridgid website does not yet recognize the code for this charger when I attempted to register it.

RIDGID NEW SMALLER 18 VOLT BATTERY CHARGER
This 18-volt charger works with all of the 18-volt batteries in the Ridgid line, including the Octane Batteries. This charger will actually fit in your tool box. The previous chargers were so large they took up the space of another tool or additional bits you could have brought along. This charger is small enough to leave you that all important space in your tool box. This charger still does actually reset any bluetooth adjustment you may have set to your Octane Batteries. From what I have seen it does not matter if you using the 3-amp hour or 9-amp hour battery the charge time is about the same. As you can see in the picture below this charger still has indicator lights that verify the batteries current charge state matching the batteries charge condition. Its smaller size makes it a charger that can stay in your carry tool box to be ready for any trip or jobsite you may find yourself on.

I have three batteries and until now, I had just one charger. So it was dumb not to have another charger. This charger is easy enough to mount. It has two screw head slots on the back. It is very light, and I like the straight down plug instead of one that juts out. I have this one on a smart plug so my battery gets charged on my schedule, or when I need a longer charge-just not 24/7 as that is a sure way to kill a battery. I have this by my workbench where I keep my Rigid cordless vac under it. It is easy enough to pop the battery in to vacuum then put the battery back into the charger. This charger is reasonably priced with a 3-year warranty. I like it and for what it does, add more charging capability for my growing Rigid tools and their batteries, this is great.
Good, but missing 1 key adjustment

I've used this saw for a few months now, and I really like it. It hasn't struggled to get through anything I've cut yet, and I like the dust ejection/collection behind and to the side. It does pretty good with the battery too; I can get a lot out of 1 charge on a 4Ah battery. My biggest gripe is that the base plate came misaligned with the blade, and there's no way to adjust it. There is a set screw to adjust the bevel angle to 90, but no way to align the base. This is a major problem if you want to use a straight-edge as a guide, which I do; not an issue if you just free-hand it. With a straight-edge, you'll have to fight to keep it going in the right direction, if even possible, and you'll really feel the motor struggle to keep up with the resistance. It would be incredibly easy for Ridgid to add this adjustment, and I'd hope they will include it in the next gen tools.

A few years ago I bought a Ridgid set for my son. He used the driver and drill as a mechanic with a local car dealership. Needless to say, the environment is fast-paced and rough on tools. I recently started remodeling my home, and was able to use some of his tools, namely, the Ridgid driver and drill. I was surprised by the dependability of the tools as there was obvious signs of use without the symptoms I was used to. Until this point I had been going through drills and drivers every 2-3 years either because of burned motors or slipping clutches.
