Very impressive impact wrench!
This Ridgid 18V Brushless 1/2" Impact Wrench is super powerful. I mainly used it for breaking loose lug nuts when I don't have my larger mid-torque ridgid impact wrench and for lag screws. It is remarkably good at both and has impressed a few of my friends who don't have Ridgid tools. It is small enough to remove brakes and rotor bolts on my compact car and strong enough to remove truck lug nuts. The grip and light is very nice. I wish the light was higher than on the base but that is a small complaint.

My favorite tool. But improvement is needed.
I use this almost everyday. I carry it with me on my scooter Incase I need to change a belt and I have needed to... Is light and compact. It's so compact you almost always will need an extension and that leads to a problem. The retention on the anvil is a 2 out of 10. Just a socket will barley stay but as soon as you add even a 3" extension it will fall off. Makes it a real pain and cost a lot of time. Plenty of power but the retention ring is just not good.

Cool concept however quality just wasnt there
I was impressed at the size of this tool. I also like the multi modes it offers for speed and power. However I was let down on the overall quality of the tool. Unfortunately the tool came with two different colors. One side of the tool is a bright shiny orange and the other side is a darker brown orange color. That more than likely didn't effect the operation of the tool itself however I believe QC or someone missed this obvious issue and it doesn't scream good quality in my opinion.

This is a sub-compact Rigid brushless 1/2 in impact wrench/driver. It is amazingly compact in size. The three 'power' or impact settings as well as a drive until 'impact' setting (A). We used this for engine work and in the video below, we showed how easily it removed a lug nut that was torqued to 85ft lbs originally. It had no trouble removing it at the lowest setting. This is very easy to use as it is very small and fairly light weight but can handle the large 1/2 impact sockets. We also used this to remove the anode rods in our ten year old water heaters. Took it a while a they were very rusted/corroded into place. much beater than using a breaker bar as you do not want to risk spinning the heater.

        Big power, small size!
Very powerful little unit, I mostly use it working on cars. I used it for tearing down some engines, can do pretty much everything but the crank bolt with ease. (Need the big boy there) Much better than a 1/4" nut driver with a socket adapter, and actually lighter/smaller. Very similar head size and power to the Milwaukee Stubby M12 Fuel impact, but even lower priced. Would have been a 5 star review, but the battery placement is a bit wonky. It's right flush with the end of the anvil, so it can get in the way in certain circumstances, especially when using short sockets on a flat or nearly flat surface. Handle need more slope, or battery needed some more rearwards offset. This is much less an issue when using deep sockets, and using any extension makes it a total non issue. Sidenote, there is a 1/2" twin to this coming, so if you already have 1/2" impact sockets, maybe wait for that.

This is a review of Ridgid's 18V Sub-Compact 1/2" drive Impact Wrench, Item # R87208B [bare tool]. It's made in China. For its 'compactness' [about 3.5 lbs vs 7 lbs], you give up capacity [200 ft-lbs vs 1000 ft-lbs]; but how often do you need to go beyond 200 ft-lbs? [Tire lugs, for example, usually require anywhere from 85-150 ft-lbs of torque.] Compensating for the reduced the capacity is the ability to get the tool in tight spaces, especially when using shallow sockets. [P.S. because of the reduced capacity you have more room to cheat with non-impact-rated sockets!]. Unfortunately, like all the battery-powered torque wrenches I know of, there's a very good chance you'll over-torque; and that's why the manual cautions you yo always "check the torque with a torque wrench". In my lifetime, I know we'll see the day when you'll be able to set the torque on the tool and it'll shut down when it's reached. Please! In that vein, the "Auto Mode" is weird; it'll automatically shut down the tool before entering the impact mode ... but that's when the torque build usually begins. Go figure. Bottom line, you're going to have to go through a lengthy learning process to understand the tool and become familiar with what it can do AND HOW IT DOES IT. I started by running nuts up and down on 3/8 and 1/2" machine bolts under non-critical conditions. As for the Ridgid warranty ... I started building my arsenal in 2013 and now have over 20 18v tools. In that time I've had one failure ... that was an "infant mortality" of a battery in 2014. Ridgid told me to go to HD for a replacement but, being a new system, HD didn't know how to handle; it was a nightmare. Hopefully, things have gotten better; I really don't want to know. But for my money, I think Milwaukee's new process is "benchmark". I also think Ridgid erects too many hurdles.

What a great size for this Subcompact Impact wrench is. I wish I had it a few months ago when I was trying to get a nut off an old bolt on my truck and did not have enough room to use my regular size impact wrench. This Subcompact would have been perfect. I like the numerous features: 3 speeds, Brushless motor, LED Light and all metal gears. Also don't forget the benefits of the Lifetime Service Agreement as well as any Ridgid 18v battery will work with this tool. I show the tool without a battery as this kit Model #R87208B is tool only, wish it also came with a battery as I like to have one for every tool and batteries seem to be more cost effective when they are packaged with a tool.

the Ridgid subcompact 1/2 inch impact wrench comes as a bare tool and was a nice addition to add to my Ridgid 18 volt line of tools, it is 100% compatible with all Ridgid 18 volt batteries so you don't have to buy additional batteries or a charger. because of its compact size it works well in small tight places, it is light weight and very comfortable to use. it has 3 speeds plus a auto tightening mode for up to 225 ft-lbs of breakaway torque which is enough for light to medium general use. i did try it on a wheel lug nut to see if it would break it loose and it did not have enough power to accomplish that task. i do like that it has a brushless motor, is compatible with all 18 volt Ridgid batteries and is eligible for the lifetime service agreement. i don't like that the built in led light shines up not out onto the working area, the impact is lacking in power and i don't see any real advantage over the 3/8 inch subcompact model of the same brand that has the same specifications. it is a nice specialty tool to have but it does have limited use in my opinion.

Must have for Builders and Automotive work and projects. This is likely to be your go to impact. The three speeds are nice but the automatic tightening mode is a saver of broken parts and projects getting messed up and interrupted when you don't have the time to go get another part. The size is amazing, maybe even a little small if you are used to gripping into the motor area. If you stay away from the back end attachment bolts it is a better feeling tool. I haven't owned an adjustable speed impact before so this was quite a treat to use. The A mode for auto tighten is the broken part eliminator and faster than adjusting a drill clutch. Always check torque with a torque wrench. Overall this is a terrific tool. When you hold it it makes you want to go put in a deck or change your tires.

I absolutely love this tool! The wrench is perfect for tight spaces and installing new nuts and bolts. I used this wrench in combination with my full-size 1/2" 18 volt Ridgid impact wrench to change the suspension on my truck. Living in the salt belt, this little guy didnt have enough to bust through the rust on some of the bolts so I used the bigger wrench for those. After using the bigger guy to remove the bolts and nuts, I used the little guy to install the new hardware. The size and weight made install a breeze! 225 ft./lbs. of torque were perfect to get them installed and follow up with a torque wrench. Made the job much faster and more comfortable. Auto-mode is also a great feature on both wrenches to adjust to the needs of the bolt or nuts Highly recommended, especially if you're already using Ridgid's battery platform.
