I agree with you on which connector to use and there should be instructions included with the hose kit. From all the connectors included it looks like this kit is made to fit various models and makes of shop vacs. I chose the adapter fitting closest to the original and made sure it would fit into the shop vac. Then it was simply fitting the end of the new hose which does not have an adapter on it over the other end of the fitting. It will be a tight fit, but it will slide on. You may have to spray some WD-40, or other type of lubricant on it to make it fit together easier.
That's exactly how I use the Tug-A-Long hose. Performs great with no noticeable loss of suction.

It should.
There will be some loss of suction increasing hose length. That said, will it be noticeable? There was no noticeable loss of suction when adding the Tug-A-Long to the hose that came with the shop vac that I noticed. Each attachment seemed to perform exactly the same and cleaned well.
No, just ensure that your filter is kept clean and you won’t have any issues. If it feels like it’s not operating at maximum efficiency, clean the filter first.
Hose diameter is 2 1/2 inches so will fit hoses the same diameter. There are adapters that can be purchased if those included don't work.
Yes! Exactly how I use mine. Fits perfect with no noticeable loss of suction.
