Great question Jack! The RIDGID 15-Degree 1-3/4 in. Coil Roofing Nailer R175RNF can be used for for any shingles that require roofing nails to attach. Some shake type shingles do not recommend using the pneumatic type nailers to avoid damage. Please check the recommended installation for your brand and type of cedar shingle shakes. OK tool, LSA is terrible!
I have an earlier version of this tool. For light construction it isn't bad. This issue is the LSA-Lifetime Service Agreement. I had to have some repairs done a few years ago, the authorized service center is quite a distance from my home, and they had it for over 2 months. Now, several small parts have loosened up and fallen out on a jobsite. I asked my local Home Depot associate if they could order the parts or help me out, and was told I had to file a claim or go to the RIGID site to order the parts. So now, here I am, making the repairs myself. The very small parts that will fit in my hand, nuts/bolts/washers/springs, totaled $25. But, RIGID is charging $13.95 for shipping, which is asinine. Ultimately, it will cost less to pay for the parts and get them quickly, as opposed to spending 2 plus hours of my time travelling to/from the repair center plus lost time from paying jobs and the cost of either buying a replacement, or renting a replacement. I have learned that the LSA is meaningless unless you live close to a service center, or have extreme patience. What's more, you can ask different Home Depot associates about the LSA, and you will get different answers. I have been told that the Home Depot store will ship the tool to be repaired, I have been told the HD tool rental center does all the repairs, and I have been told the only way to use the LSA is to file a claim. Obviously a training problem exists. My advice, don't by a RIGID tool simply for the LSA.

Everything is pretty good about the gun, but you have to have max air all the time. Very inconsistent depths of the nails when the pressure just falls off a little. Requires a good compressor. One thing that I don't like is the style of nails required. The plastic, that holds the nails together, will get caught between the nail head and the wood.

I have used a few other brands from cheap to expensive but never had one of my own. When I decided to build a cabin I needed one and just happen to see this on sale for $169 so yeah I got one. From the floor to the walls and on to the roof framing and sheathing as well as siding, this gun has done it all for me. The only time I had a jam was when hitting a knot, other that that this thing has worked flawlessly. I have no complaints at all!

I've been working in construction on and off for most of my adult life. In that time I've used everything from cheap harbor freight guns to top of the line Duofast. This gun is easily just as high in quality as its $350 counterparts. The first thing I noticed about it was the light weight which is an excellent feature when you have a bag full of framing nails hanging from your hip. I also like the overmoulded grip. Also when framing I prefer using Duo Fast resin bond 20 degree nails. Though this is a 21 degree gun it has no issues. Now I've only had the gun for a couple of weeks so I can't speak for how long this quality will last. But Rigid alleviates that worry with an excellent warranty. I can confidently say this gun is a steal for the price.

Tough nailer! I purchased this framing nailer last winter and used it to build my cabin this summer. I put several boxes of 8p ring shank nails building the floor and sheathing the walls and roof deck. Also used it to frame the walls and rafters using 16p nails. Occasional jams were cleared easily.

I’m a DIYer, always working on some home project. Recently I decided to re-do the roof of my storage shed, as it was very bad. So I did a little reading and talked to the folks at the local big-box home improvement stores, pulled the old asphalt shingles off, and set to it. I picked up this Rigid roofing nailer for the new shingles. I’m familiar with air tools so the general stuff like air pressure and such was easy to set. What I like about this nail gun however was the box to first nail time was just seconds. It’s fully assembled with the swivel inlet port, and loading is super easy. I think this nail gun loads faster than my framing nailer. Super easy to use, everything on it is very intuitive, clearly labeled, and easily accessible. Having never done a roof before, I’m really glad I spent the extra on the Rigid, letting me trust in my tools and spend more time making sure I was laying the pieces correctly. About half way thru the project when I had gotten more comfortable with it, I flipped it over to contact-fire mode and that sped it up even more. Great job Rigid! I love your equipment, and I’ll definitely keep this one in my work shop.
