Questions & Answers

I have the Ridgid 3 1/2 framing nailer. The first nail goes in completely, after that the nails stick out about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch.

The only other test I would do is try a different compressor and make sure the CFM as well as PSI are what is required for the nailer. I believe this one is about 100 PSI and your compressor should have the ability to produce 3 CFM to keep up. Also check your air hose and make sure the size is adaquate, 3/8". Other than that I would contact RIDGID support directly and not go through the store, the support team is more knowledgable. Hope that helps.

I loaded the nails upside down. Is it still ok to discharge? Will it damage the nailer?

Joe, thank you for your interest in the RIDGID 21-Degree 3-1/2 in. Round Head Framing Nailer. You should absolutely NOT try to discharge the nailer. If you cannot remove the nails by hand you will need to take this to a service center. Answer

MK, thank you for your interest in the RIDGID 21-Degree 3-1/2 in. Round Head Framing Nailer. This Framing Nailer takes 3-1/2 in. framing nails with a minimum shank diameter of 0.113 in. and a maximum shank diameter of 0.148 in. As long as the nail will make it through the material you are sheathing with and into the lumber you are anchoring it to this Nailer should work fine for sheathing. Again you would use 3-1/2 in. nails. Thank you for asking, If you have further questions and would like to speak with a RIDGID Customer Experience Professional, please call, 1-866-539-1710 M-F from 9am-6pm EST. Hope this helps! - Vini

OK tool, LSA is terrible!
I have an earlier version of this tool. For light construction it isn't bad. This issue is the LSA-Lifetime Service Agreement. I had to have some repairs done a few years ago, the authorized service center is quite a distance from my home, and they had it for over 2 months. Now, several small parts have loosened up and fallen out on a jobsite. I asked my local Home Depot associate if they could order the parts or help me out, and was told I had to file a claim or go to the RIGID site to order the parts. So now, here I am, making the repairs myself. The very small parts that will fit in my hand, nuts/bolts/washers/springs, totaled $25. But, RIGID is charging $13.95 for shipping, which is asinine. Ultimately, it will cost less to pay for the parts and get them quickly, as opposed to spending 2 plus hours of my time travelling to/from the repair center plus lost time from paying jobs and the cost of either buying a replacement, or renting a replacement. I have learned that the LSA is meaningless unless you live close to a service center, or have extreme patience. What's more, you can ask different Home Depot associates about the LSA, and you will get different answers. I have been told that the Home Depot store will ship the tool to be repaired, I have been told the HD tool rental center does all the repairs, and I have been told the only way to use the LSA is to file a claim. Obviously a training problem exists. My advice, don't by a RIGID tool simply for the LSA.

Everything is pretty good about the gun, but you have to have max air all the time. Very inconsistent depths of the nails when the pressure just falls off a little. Requires a good compressor. One thing that I don't like is the style of nails required. The plastic, that holds the nails together, will get caught between the nail head and the wood.

I have used a few other brands from cheap to expensive but never had one of my own. When I decided to build a cabin I needed one and just happen to see this on sale for $169 so yeah I got one. From the floor to the walls and on to the roof framing and sheathing as well as siding, this gun has done it all for me. The only time I had a jam was when hitting a knot, other that that this thing has worked flawlessly. I have no complaints at all!

I've been working in construction on and off for most of my adult life. In that time I've used everything from cheap harbor freight guns to top of the line Duofast. This gun is easily just as high in quality as its $350 counterparts. The first thing I noticed about it was the light weight which is an excellent feature when you have a bag full of framing nails hanging from your hip. I also like the overmoulded grip. Also when framing I prefer using Duo Fast resin bond 20 degree nails. Though this is a 21 degree gun it has no issues. Now I've only had the gun for a couple of weeks so I can't speak for how long this quality will last. But Rigid alleviates that worry with an excellent warranty. I can confidently say this gun is a steal for the price.

Tough nailer! I purchased this framing nailer last winter and used it to build my cabin this summer. I put several boxes of 8p ring shank nails building the floor and sheathing the walls and roof deck. Also used it to frame the walls and rafters using 16p nails. Occasional jams were cleared easily.

About the worst thing I can say this nail gun is awesome !!! I have used many nail guns in my 64 years of life, and this gun is as smooth as any I've ever used. At 90 psi compressor pressure, and it's sinking 3 and a quarter inch nails. It cost more than the NuMax that I returned, but you're not going to get the best for the same price as the cheaper tools, but more was well worth the extra cash I had to pay for the Rigid. I should have learned that lesson with the Rigid hammer drill I bought a few months back. Both are excellent tool made for working. Oh, and you can't beat a nail gun with a cleat for toe nailing, and this gun comes with both options of the round nose or the cleat nose!!! I returned the NuMax because it didn't have the cleat option for easy toe nailing!!!!
