Rugged. Building for a backyard wedding. So far have sanded a bar, a deck, outdoor seating, the list goes on. Motor is still as strong as when I bought it.

great sander, durable
This is a great sander, and very very durable. I used to sand down the old paint on my porch for a solid 3 hours. Worked great, never over heated. I also used to sand the trim around my before painting.

This is my 4th sander in 8 years with this model. Dust collection works really, really well which is why I continue to buy it. The sander typically last me about 2 years and then it simply dies. The warranty is utterly worthless. So, what are the reasons I keep buying this model knowing full well it is not going to last?: 1. cheap enough 2. My current shop-vac/mini cyclone setup is geared toward the dust collection port. When it works it does a great job of collecting almost all the dust. I have done a ton of DIY at my current fixer upper house and I have gone through 5 large pails of sheetrock mud. There is almost no dust when I sand with 150 grit on the lowest setting (sander is variable speed) and have the sander hooked up to my dust collection system. It really does work well, until it dies. My only complaint is that the sander simply does not last very long. Apparently that same sentiment is echoed by others on various forums. If you do not have an existing dust collector for a sander then you might be wise to look elsewhere if longevity is your main concern. If you plan to use this sander on a part-time bases and have a good dust collector then it might be worth your while to invest in this sander. The dust collection really does a fantastic job, especially of sheet rock mud. When my current new sander finally dies (bought the 4th new one in April of 2020) I will revisit a different brand since most of my DIY projects at the current fixer up home will be done. My 2 cents.

I bought this sander for a project. It worked nicely, did what I needed it to do and it did it with ease. For the money pretty hard to beat. The dust collector worked as advertised, no issues with dust to speak of. It will not capture all of it, but I was not disappointed in the least. Nice little storage bag too. I would buy again. Here is my finished product...

I like the delay that has before starts, i don't like that the off button pushes like a 1/4 inside the frame and is hard for someone with fat fingers to push so you have to adjust your hand every time to turn it off, so far everything else is good...

RIDGID is forging into the yellow sander. I own the Orange and the Yellow Sander. The Yellow one has been the workhorse and I use it to smooth out the wood and minor damage the wood has and it has been faithful for many years. The RIDGID sander is very smooth and gentle with the soft start and variable speed setting and I use it only for finish sanding with fine sandpapers.I use it after using the other one and it sucks up a lot of wood shavings in the bag. There are many complaints of the shop vac killing the electronics so on humid days I do not use the vac connected to it but if you empty the bag as often as needed (any time it's half full), the bag works well. Inside I would definitely use the vac which connects directly to my shop vac with no adapters (not so with the yellow one). I hope the issue has been solved with the static electricity and shop vac. My shop vac has a rubber hose and I have always grounded the hose when using it, seems to not harm anything. Another thing I do after using any and all of my tools including saws and sanders is to VAC out the dust (not blow it with compressed air). I have never had a failure of any kind of my tools not any failure. My neighbors sometimes make fun of me (until I see them replacing one of their tools) but my tools do seem to outlast any of theirs. Take care of your tools, buy the right tool for the job, and clean them after use (even for you pros). The RIDGID sander is doing the job I purchased it for and is registered for the LSA. For me, it has proven reliable and dependable and being from Tennessee I just have a natural liking to the color ORANGE. Good thing, because I seem to have a lot of orange tools and tractors! When you purchase a tool even if it's a gift for someone else, get it home, take it out of the package, and inspect it, then plug it in and run it to see if it sounds right and runs smooth. If there is a problem return it for a replacement and be thankful HD has a generous return/exchange policy.
