are 3 foot closet augers all telescoping

Asked by: shady
No, 3ft aren't telescoping. They are just Long enough to clean out the toilet itself and a very short bit after(less than a foot). Look at a YouTube video for proper use

Per YouTube video the dude said. 3 footer would be adequate and it was.

Can it be used for sink and tub clogs too.

Asked by: DL
No. It is designed specifically for toilets and would be too awkward to use for anything else. The snake part of the auger is too large in diameter to use in sink and tub drains and too short.

Until today, I've never had a clog that couldn't be fixed with a plunger. However, after food got flushed down the toilet, it simply wouldn't budge and I was afraid we needed a plumber. Heard about these augers and got the Rigid one because it looked a lot more heavy duty than the value brand. This thing is a beast! Feels unbreakable. Put it in the toilet, spent about 3 minutes spinning the handle and going back and forth down the drain. Toilet starting flushing better than it ever has, and we didn't need to call the plumber! Could have saved an hour of messy, disgusting plunging. Problem solved for a whole lot less than calling a pro. I never imagined I would fix this clog by myself. Everyone should have one of these augers on hand for those emergencies.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Got a super low-flow toilet? We put a super efficient one-piece Kohler toilet in our master bathroom about seven weeks back. It works incredibly well and uses roughly a gallon of water per flush. That is until it suddenly stops working and starts belching when flushed. I called Kohler and was told that their high-efficiency toilets are prone to clog and can present differently than you might be used to. Their suggestion was to either call a plumber or get a closet auger. This is a pretty serious auger, and yes, it costs around three times as much as the "home model," but it is extremely easy to use and took less than minute to have things in working order again. I figure that a $35 auger is a lot cheaper than having a plumber come out. In that respect I'd argue that the tool has already paid for itself. Given the nature of such toilets the auger will likely be put into use again in the future. Had I known I'd have bought this tool at the same time as the toilet was purchased.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Just Buy It! Toilet's plugged again and I refused to pay $105 for a plumber to do the job for me. Researched a little about toilet snakes and augers and decided upon the Ridgid 3' toilet auger. All I can say is that it was ridiculously easy to use and within two minutes the toilet was flushing and back to normal. AND, I saved $70 by doing it myself!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Problem solved quickly I have one of those useless low flow toilets which means it clogs easily. Usually a plunger takes care of the problem, but on two occasions repeated plunging did not help. The first time a year ago, I called the plumber. had to wait several hours, and paid $80 for a fix. This time I did some online research and learned about the toilet auger. I bought this Ridgid Toilet Auger at Home Depot, followed the directions on the package, and in less than five minutes, the toilet flushed properly. I washed the auger in the bathtub and then cleaned the tub with chlorine scouring powder. Now I'm prepared if it happens again (and I'm already ahead $50). This auger should be supplied as standard equipment with every low flow toilet.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Much better than plunger My kids don't get enough fiber in their diet and as a result, I frequently have to use a plunger. Although it often took a hundred or so plunges, it always worked. Until last night. I tried Drano. Nothing. I went to home depot to see what they had and lo and behold I saw this thing. They had a cheap looking thing for something like $8, but I wanted to make sure I got something that would work, so I bought this. It worked great. I just followed the instructions. It's not complicated. Just push the spring into the hole and turn with the crank. It drilled a hole through the middle of the obstruction. One flush later and everything was good to go. It was kind of messy cleaning it. I did this in the bathtub and cleaning consisted of spraying with the shower head while running a card through the cracks in the coil to breakup what was stuck inside.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked Immediately I tried to clear a clog previously with a cheaper, auger and had no luck what so ever. After reading a few of the reviews of this product I figured I'd give it a try before coughing up $105 (what it cost last time for a plumber). It took me about 30 seconds to have my toilet flushing again; it worked immediately.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The auger was very effective at clearing the blockage. Instructions/suggestions for sanitary cleaning should be provided. PRO: The auger was very effective at clearing the blockage. Very easy to use. CON: Effective method to "flush" the equipment with clean water to remove debris internal to tubes is not provided. RECOMMENDATION: Instructions/suggestions for sanitary cleaning of the auger for the infrequent use by homeowner would be beneficial. Recommend modification to upper guide tube to permit a cleaning "purge hole" in order to flush tubes and auger out the bulb end. Caution when install and removing from toilet avoid contact of the bulb end with the toilet porcelain as it will leave a "pencil" mark on the porcelain under the water line which is hard to remove.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from it works! I had a severely clogged toilet, and no element of plunging was making a difference. Of course, it was the weekend and so I didn't want to pay to have a plumber come out. Having watched a youtube video of a woman using a toilet auger, it looked relatively easy so I decided to give it a shot. This worked perfectly! It was so easy to use (a simple three-step process), and my terrifyingly filled toilet started flowing again. I'd highly recommend this project to anyone facing a similar challenge - and am thrilled to now have this in my arsenal for now on!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Look no further!!!!!!!!! Well.......I read reviews and decided to get this one as I had a clogged toilet problem for a few days and the plunger wasn't helping. I was skeptical about getting an auger / snake, but it was a good thing that I got this one. Otherwise the "Spongebob toothpaste" tube that turned out to be the problem would have led to a large plumber bill. This auger drilled it's coils right into that tube of toothpaste and I was able pull that sucker right out and problem solved!!! Check youtube for awesome instructional videos on using an auger to fix your toilet problems. And don't make the mistake of getting a cheap auger with plastic parts because you are going to end up buying this one after the cheap one breaks.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This thing is awesome! I found this tool in a storage shed on the property of my home when I bought it. Little did I know at the time that there would soon be a use for it and probably the reason the previous home owner had it to begin with. Thanks for leaving this amazing tool behind for me to use. I recently had issues with what seemed like a clogged toilet that was also leaking beneath the toilet at the floor seal (wax ring). While using a plunger to no avail I remembered this cool looking auger tool in my shed. After just a brief bit of web research I realized what it was and immediately retrieved it. Almost as soon as I started using the K6 I hit an obstruction. After much work and a good bit of time I was finally able to penetrate the line beneath the toilet with the full length of the auger but then while trying to extract it I found that it was stuck on something. I immediately started applying much more force all the while continuing to turn the handle. After a good 15-20 minutes I felt something give and was finally able to extract it from the toilet. Much to my surprise out came a very large tangled clump of roots that was approximately 18" long and nearly the thickness of the inside diameter if the the sewer line at one end. I'm amazed that this toilet was even partially working at times with this huge mass of roots in the line. What I'm even more amazed at is how well the K6 did at extracting this thing without doing anything to my toilet. I would highly recommend this very well thought out and extremely well constructed tool to anyone regardless of the price. Very well worth the money and now that I know how easy it made the task at hand for me I would probably pay twice that much for it knowing all well that it can take whatever you put it through. My K6 auger now has a new home in the front of my workshop mounted on the wall like a trophy waiting for the next time I need rescuing from the nasty sewer line root monster. Thanks for an awesome tool! Regards, Don

Rated 5 out of 5 by from AWESOME I ran out to my local HD after reading some reviews and figured for 35 bucks it couldn't hurt to try before committing to pay a plumber to come out and clear my toilet. It took less time for me to go to my local HD, buy the product, get home, and unclog my toilet than it would have been to even get a plumber to come to my house not to mention the savings! This thing paid for itself at least 3-4 times over in just its first use!

I bought this after one of my mother-in-law's male relatives plugged her downstairs toilet over the holidays during a family gathering. I have some professional experience with the opening of stubborn waste clogs and usually can get a toilet unclogged using a quality toilet plunger. This time however, it wasn't happening despite my best efforts so I decided to invest in the Ridgid Toilet Auger. I chose the Ridgid brand because of my previous positive experience with other tools of this brand, and an inspection in-store left me confident with the sturdiness and quality of this item. It took all of five minutes to clear the clog, and I must say I probably could have plunged on it for hours without success. I can't imagine what might be medically wrong with my brother-in-law because it seems like he has hydraulic cement issuing forth from his bowels. I highly recommend this product as a real time saver.

I watched a video on YouTube and knew exactly how to use it!! Yay me

I could clear it with a plunger, but as soon as you drop some paper or whatever in, it would clog again. I assumed one of the grandkids dropped a small toy or pencil or whatever in there. Got this closet auger from Home Depot and ran it through three times. Never did recover whatever was the blockage, so I guess its downstream now. Worked great and I think it will outlive me. I was going to get the $10 auger but almost everyone complained of the handle breaking so I upgraded to this one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Every Home Needs This This is an awesome tool. If I had this earlier this year I would have saved $140.00 in plumber bills at my dad's house. Last night when playing ball with my Lab puppy the racquet ball we were using must have bounced or been dropped in the toilet. I wasn't paying much attention and thought he must have got bored and decided to take a nap. I hardly use any lights and you guessed it, flushed the toilet without seeing the ball until it was too late. Tried to get it out with my hand but it just barely rolled as I was trying to get it out. Poked holes in it with a heated wire to be able to maybe squeeze it a bit, nope. Tried a few other things and it ended up way out of reach. Got this and although the ball was not removed, it was pushed down past the toilet into the larger sewer pipe. I just hope that the next time the septic tank gets cleaned it doesn't clog the vacuum truck!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from When a plunger wouldn't cut it My wife thought it was a good idea to clean out the fridge and flush mozzarella balls down the toilet. After multiple attempts of plunging, the toilet was still struggling to flush. I did some research on toilet augers and decided to spend the more money on this one vs the cheaper alternative. It proved very easy to use, and I had the mozzarella cleared out in less than 30 seconds. The only thing I had a problem with was after I pulled the auger out, the end of the wire was completely packed with cheese. Makes me wonder if this happens with all types of clogs, or just cheese... Also be careful not to let any of the wire touch the visible portion of your toilet, as it will leave a mark. The initial angle of my trap is pretty steep, so I had no choice but to let the wire touch it and it left very small "scratches" on the inside of the toilet bowl around the edge of the hole.
