Hello, you would need to use an extension cord that can handle 15 amps and only plug into a receptacle on your generator that is rated to 15 amps (NEMA 5-15R).

The Ridgid 5- Outlet is rated for indoor/outdoor use, however it is not water proof. If the unit is overloaded or possibly getting wet it can trip the internal circuit.

Asked by Paul January 10, 2020

Answer

Hi Paul, This is a very good question that requires a little explanation to answer effectively. As you mention, the PowerHubs do come with circuit breaker overload protection. This, however, is different from a GFCI which will recognize when water has entered the circuit and cut power. The PowerHub, while outdoor rated against water intrusion, won’t shut down if water enters the circuit elsewhere, the circuit breaker only protects against too much power draw being placed on the circuit. I hope this helps!

Convenient, but the covers don't last
I use these for putting Christmas lights in one of our trees. it works great functionally, but the outlet covers, which help keep it water resistant, broke off the very first season. as a result, my GFCI trips every time it rains. I've taken to wrapping the whole thing in a plastic bag to keep things working well. if the covers were a little more durable, this would be an awesome tool.

Great power splitter for the price. Feels solid and not cheaply built. The translucent area on top lights up when power is flowing to it. The seals on the side work pretty well but I would personally like to have them feel more secure while closed just because I am a worry wort.

I like the fact you can Use it outside and inside. It’s really small so it fits in tight places. I like that it has a reset button if we have a surge. I made a box to put my security cameras plug in for outside. This plug is in the box to keep the weather from ruining my security camera plug dry. I made a hole and ran the plugs cord through it.

I bought 2 of these for outdoor Halloween decor, and just getting them out of the package, the covers came off 2 of the outlets. I returned then and grabbed 2 more.... I got those out of the packaging, but they came right off when I went to plug in a cord. The unit itself feel pretty solid. I like the push button on/off switch, but they REALLY need to figure out a better way to secure the covers.

We moved to sunny Florida and soon discovered that sunny Florida has hurricane too. Our generator is not wired in as this is a rental for us. Bought this item to splitter the power from a remotely placed generator. Exactly what I was looking for. It was the last item on the Shelf pack so I know other purchased it before me. As I approached check out I had three different contractors tell me that's a good piece. I would definitely buy it again and would recommend it to everyone I know

Full use for multi purpose on a 20 amp circuit. The plug covers were too light weight to maintain any damp location rating, and came off at a slight tug, however, anyone who uses extension cords in damp locations knows.... GFCI!!!!!

Purchased 30 of these cord hubs for a festival event. I choose this particular hub because of the plug covers. Covers fell off several of the hubs just in the process of removing from the packaging which consisted of a couple of tie straps attached to cardboard. Surprised something so poorly manufactured carried the HD brand name and sold by HD.
