Questions & Answers

How do I securely attach the wheel to the grinder?

When I put the $85.00 RIDGID wheel on the $140.00 RIDGID grinder I just bought, the wheel does not fit down on the grinder the way it should. When I thread the wheel onto the grinder, it does not leave enough thread to attach and secure the part. What is going on with this?????? I am furious. I have a project to finish. When I go on the RIDGID site, there is -0- information about this product even though the packaging on the grinder wheel tells me to go to your site.
Asked by: Elain
We're replacing carpeted flooring with stained concrete in our house, so our floors require some grinding. My contracted "cement guy" attached my new RIDGID 7 inch 24-Segment Turbo Cup Grinding Wheel to my new Makita grinder, probably using the method Splitshaft described. (Yes, I bought the tools, since the contractor's tools were not to my liking.) The resulting cement dust was overwhelming our house, so I ordered the Makita 7 in. Grinder Dust Shroud to use inline with my existing Dust Deputy and shop vacuum to minimize the dust cloud. In order to install the Makita 7 in. Grinder Dust Shroud, the grinding wheel must now be removed, which is not as easy as Splitshaft described. My "cement guy" mounted my grinding wheel to my Makita grinder to make a trial grind, and now there's simply not enough clearance to slide a common 1" open-end wrench onto the wheel nut. I'm now looking for a thinner open-end wrench to accomplish this. “It's always something.” > Gilda Radner

how much sqft aprox can i cover on 1 of these cup @ say 1/4” thick thinset?

Asked by: Bradrad
After chiseling off my old tile, I removed 150 square feet of the remaining thinset mortar from my concrete floor. Since we were installing carpet, the thinset had to be ground completely off the concrete. When the job was finished, this diamond cup had very little wear and it left an excellent finish on the concrete. I estimate this grinding cup could remove at least 1,000 square feet of thinset mortar or more. Even with a dust hood over the grinding cup connected to a vacuum cleaner, the job was extremely dusty and the vacuum cleaner filter needed to be cleaned frequently to provide a strong vacuum.

Asked by: benjtia
Thank you for your inquiry. Both Ridgid 12-segment and 24-segment cup wheels have a 50/60 grit. The 24-segment cup wheel gives you more life.

will this wheel fit my 4 1/2 inch grinder?

will this wheel fit my 4 1/2 inch grinder?
Asked by: choppertom
If your 4-inch angle grinder has a 5/8 in.-11 mm threaded arbor, it will attach as long as the angle grinder body does not interfere with a grinding attachment larger than 4-inches in diameter. Be advised the load imposed by this grinding cup on a 4-inch angle grinder would be significant and may burn up the angle grinder motor. If overheating or damaging the angle grinder motor is not an issue and the angle grinder body does not interfere with a larger grinding attachment, there is no reason it cannot be used on a 4-inch angle grinder with a 5/8 in.-11 mm threaded arbor, although not advisable in my opinion. As minimum, I recommend a 7-inch angle grinder rated at 13 amps or greater should be used to avoid damage to the angle grinder due to the load imposed by this grinding cup.

Customer Reviews

7 in. 24-Segment Turbo Cup Grinding Wheel is rated 4.3 out of 5 by 22.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Absolutely awful I would give it zero stars but that wasn’t an option. I had to grind down a lot of curb that was causing a trip hazard. All this product did was bounce and was hard to control. To gain control I had to grab the housing of the 7” grinder and press down with everything I had, not to mention that I had to be neat and shape the curb as I ground it down. Then I bought the Makita, which is so smooth that an athletic 12 year old could operate it. It hugged the curb and had no vibration. It cost $14 dollars more but I didn’t care. I bought 3 more of these to complete the job and save my body. The Ridgid is obviously a poor design, and I assume that all of these good reviews are from users that have never used a blade other than the Ridgid. If the only car I had ever driven was a Yugo, I would live out my life thinking I was driving a good car.

It was a one time need to level the concrete pathway near the church steps where someone tripped and almost fell . Ridged is a quality tool and I have no doubt as to how it will perform .
