Questions & Answers

Can I cut 24" porcelain w/ this saw?

I need a saw that can handle 24" porcelain tile. Will this saw be able to handle it? I don't need to do many cuts, but I think extra blades will be needed. What spare blades should I choose?
Asked by: CozKaren
This saw will do it if you can cut without a guide. The blade should do fine if not too many cuts. If need be you can purchase the blade that home depot have displayed in the same area as the saw.

Blade too close to table surface?

I just got this saw, and when assembling it, the blade appears to rub against the left (fixed) side of the table surface. It seems like there's a spacer or something missing, or the saw is horribly misaligned with the table surface, but I don't see any way to adjust it. I have the inner washer, blade, outer washer, and then finally the nut on the arbor. From the manual, that looks like the only things that belong on there. Any thoughts on what might be wrong would be appreciated, because I really need to get to work on this bathroom floor.
Asked by: jeaton
It is possible that the left washer needs to be flipped over.

Why can't I push the tile all the way through the saw? I get to about half of a 12x24 marble tile and then it stops

Even when I push hard, the tile won't go through all the way. Nothing seems to be blocking it, it's very strange. Please help!
Asked by: Raquel
Hi Raquel. Pleas make sure the blade is dressed completely before you cut the marble tile and do not force the tile. It takes just a little pressure. Make sure the tile is not thicker than is recommended in the manual. If you are still having an issue. Please call customer service 866-539-1710. Thanks for asking Greg

Warning: This saw cannot make an 18 inch cut unless you remove the rip fence completely and cut freehand. Somebody at Ridgid marketing does not know how to measure and added the maximum distance for the fence on the left (9 inches) to the maximum on the right (about 9 inches) to decide a maximum cut is 18 inches. They said that on the box. I believed it. Incorrect. Wrong. Misleading. Deceptive. Maximum cut size for any tile from either side is about 9 inches. Other than that massive marketing mistake, this is a pretty nice saw. It is compact and easy to put together. I need to cut some 6x24 tiles in half, though (I.e. A 12 inch cut), so I'm not sure what I'm going to do.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from wheel wont fit arbor I have no idea how this was manufactured and sold. The inner and outer wheel nuts do not provide enough room to allow the arbor nut to engage the threads. There is just no way to make it work. Assembly is pretty straight forward: inner slides onto the flat sides of the arbor, the wheel, then the outer washer centers the wheel and slides onto the arbor. At this point you would screw the arbor nut on but the thread is buried under the outer washer. If it was not engineered properly every one would be returned. The only way to seat the arbor nut is to forgo the installation of the outer washer. That wont work for me.

I considered renting instead, but I didn't know how long the job would take me (3 days of renting = the price to purchase, plus I would have had to lug a larger saw than I really needed back and forth.) Since I also plan to replace a bathroom floor in the near future, I decided to purchase this one because I liked the design of the table top's deep ridges. Purchased it Saturday morning and completed installing the backsplash the next morning. (I'm a perfectionist) Easy to set up and it made nice clean cuts on my thick subway tiles. Placed it on my outdoor dining table, which was a great height. Very easy to clean. Couldn't have been happier! The only negative is that I didn't pay the $99.00 sale price other reviewers paid!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Junk Previous saw died in the middle of a small job and I needed a new one quick. I saw this one on sale at HD for $200. Went back to my job site, used it for 13 cuts and the motor is dead. Looking at the reviews now it seems to be pretty hit or miss or this saw. As most reviews state, the tile always seems to bind with the splitter/blade guard making it tough to push the tile through, causing excess pressure on the motor with little or no way of adjusting. Looks like a good saw but its junk.

I friend loaned me a heftier wet tile saw with a sliding bed, nice, but for the detail cuts I need, this saw works much better. Also, the 45 degree sliding jig works well. You do have to keep the table and runner clean so that tiles, etc. slide smoothly. I am installing "Arabesque" tiles, what a pain... I don't recommend this tile unless you have no outlets, you are a savvy tiler, etc! I couldn't do it without this saw! The only slight negative, which I thought was a design defect, is that if you try to cut close to the blade, the 45 degree thing will touch/drag on the blade hood. Just be aware that its not a defect. You can raise the hood to let you get closer, though you will spray more water. Remember to keep the water reservoir nearly to the full mar, the blade stays cooler that way.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Reliable saw I bought this saw a few years ago. I put a good 10,000 sq ft through it, and it still runs flawlessly. I've since upgraded to a larger saw. I'm a professional tile setter, and would recommend this saw to anyone. Most issues you'll read on here are operator error. This saw was my bread and butter for well over 3 years, and she preformed excellent. Recommend buying a quality tile saw blade like a QEP black widow, or equal for the best results.

I found myself freeform cutting versus always using the guide. The 45 angle guide was ok but was easier to freeform. Water does spray at your belly so watch out for that. I cut 12x12 porcelain tiles which cut fairly easily. The top bed did tarnish as i didnt clean it off until the next day and tile debri builds up so you have to keep that always clear so tile slides better during each cut.

You can rip or cut to length. It is very lightweight and easy to maneuver. Most of the water stays on the table as it should. I have used it outside and brought the tiles inside to cut down on the water. The guard does a good job of keeping it out of your face while it is being cut.
