Questions & Answers

Does this come with 1 or two batteries?

Asked by: Pathfinder306
The kit I've seen comes with one battery.

MY NEW R86008 RIDGID DRILL (3 WEEKS OLD) SUDDENLY QUIT-- BATTERY CHECKS OUT FULL, LIGHT DOESN'T GO ON, NO LIFE. IS THERE SOMETHING I CAN DO?

Asked by: RMC
If you took the time to go through the annoying, lenghty ridgid tool warranty you can take it to the rental department at Home Depot and they will check it out and replace. If it is only 3 weeks I would probably just return it for a refund and purchase another.

Is there a better case for the compact drill and accessories.

The compact drill kit came with a canvas bag which is pretty nice but I would like to get either an insert to hold the drill, batteries and charger or a case that will hold same. Seems to me just tossing the whole package into an open bag is asking for damage. I would hate to void my warranty because someone thought I was being abusive to my tools.
Asked by: Jim81501
I have not yet found a use for the bag that came with the drill. The tools and batteries are first-rate, but the bag is flimsy and looks like a bad marketing decision. I have 2-handled zipper bags that came with Husky and DeWalt tools that are a lot sturdier and have side pockets for some accessories. There are unbranded bags 16" to 20" long that accommodate the drill(s) extra batteries and a charger (and other tools like pneumatic nailers and staplers, saber saws and even the cordless RIDGID circular saw with blades and charger. I've never had a problem just carrying them loose in the bags, but I wouldn't toss the bags around. I also use a plastic box that comes with baby wipes to carry around a few small bits or blades in the soft bags. For tools that have a lot of small parts or bits (like Dremel tools or the 3" to 4 1/2" grinders with several wheels) I use aluminum hardside cases filled with soft foam cut to fit the tools and bits (picture a camera case with cutouts for lenses and film canisters).

Fuego 18-Volt Hyper Lithium-Ion 1/2 in. Compact Drill/Driver is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 140.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great warranty This seems to work as well as a "popular brand" drill I used, except the Ridgid had an issue of shutting itself off if overstressed. I used both the "popular brand" and this unit it to drill 6" holes in ice for icefishing at the same time. The "popular brand" drilled through without a problem, but when I applied a lot of pressure, the Ridgid would shut off and I had to release the trigger and press again to get it to run. Maybe a safety feature the Ridgid has that the "popular brand" doesn't--I don't know. When I didn't force the drill, I had no problem. I doubt it would do the same when used for typical applications where less torque is applied. It has worked fine for any screws I've used it for. I would like it to have come with larger capacity batteries, but having come with 2 lighter, smaller batteries isn't bad. I really like the LED charge indicator on the batteries and the charger. Can't beat the warranty, the primary reason I purchased this over the other "popular brand."

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Drill motor and battery overheat quickly I needed to drill a few holes with a spade bit on some pine boards and assumed this drill could handle the task. About 30 seconds into drilling the first hole the drill shut down. I assumed the battery pack came loose so I pushed it in and it started right up. It continued to happen every 20 or 30 seconds and the drill motor became extrememly hot as did the battery pack. The battery was drained after two holes only several inches deep and this was using the large capacity battery and only drilling pine. The motor remained hot for well over 30 minutes and so did the battery pack. The charger registered the temp being too hot to charge the battery, but after an hour of cooling it took a charge. I have owned other ridgid drills and had great luck, but this version doesn't seem to have the power of the older R86007. I would guess driving long screws could produce the same issue, but I am going to utilize the 90 day return policy and purchase the ridgid R86007 drill.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Product is Great, Accesory (Bag) is a ZERO. Just recently purchased so not sure about durability but the drill itself and chargers perform great. Meets/exceed expectations. 2 things are why I rated good and not excellent. First is signing up for warranty. Signed up online but still had to send all original purchases plus cut out and send information off of the box. Then it indicates it will be 10-12 weeks before it is processed. Seems like there should be and easier way. This itself really did not impact my rating much. The 2nd and real reason it is Good and not Excellent is the Bag/Carrying Case. I have seen reviews in the past, specifically on drills (including reviews I sent on previous purchases) where customers complain that the bag supplied is too small. It barely hold the drill and accessories that come with it. In the case of this drill the bag is the worst I have seen. It is a lightweight full zippered bag that would be great to carry your lunch. Not durable and too small. If you have a drill you always carry a few bits/accessories with you. No room.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Drill/Driver Just got the Rigid a few months ago...already have done several projects and it's worked great. Main reason for going with Rigid is the lifetime warranty, particularly on the batteries. Batteries charge very quickly (~20 min) and last a long time when drilling small holes/driving screws. Put this thing to the test drilling through 8.5" of PT lumber with a 1/2" spade bit - I was impressed by how well it powered through, but the batteries overheated quickly and I ended up only getting two holes bored and countersunk before having to change batteries. That task is better left to a high-torque corded drill anyway. Belt clip and work light are two features that I didn't even care about, but I fell in love with both of them rather quickly.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Compact and light but delivers. I use this drill daily for work under extreme conditions; wet, hot and cold. After 9 months of heavy use, I am overall very pleased by the performance of this little drill. First and foremost, the compact size and light weight are a big plus. Other big plusses: Great torque - even on the high speed setting. Placement of the LED below the grip for useable light in dark spots. FAST battery charging! I also like the fast recovery from the overvoltage shut-off - my other brand lithium system would often simply freeze up and refuse to work again and in some cases, the batteries could never be charged again, period. My only complaint is that the compact batteries don't seem to have as much run-time capacity as I would like. Overall, the RIdgid Fuego 18v compact drill has passed my brutal field test.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Unfortunately disappointed Let me start off by saying I am a huge fan of Ridgid products. They have always seemed to put out high end quality products at middle of the road prices. I have owned many Ridgid products ranging from a band saw to this Fuego Drill. I got this drill as my christmas gift in 2012. I just started to finish my basement and was using this drill to hang drywall ()since I dont have an actual drywall drill). 2/3 the way thru the project the torque adjuster broke. I had it on the drill setting which disables the torque feature....it would keep drilling no matter what the resistance. Well....eventually I could not even predrill a hole because once it felt resistance it would stop drilling/driving. You could hear it almost like it was stripping the gears inside....like it wanted to "Catch" but the gears were simply shot. I returned it and bought a dewalt 20 v drill which is $60 more but so far I love it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best value for the money! Ive been in maintenance for the past 12+years, Ive used and owned about all of them. This is by far the BEST one I have used, you cant beat the features, the light comes on when you hold the drill instead of waiting till your drilling, (little late then), compact, good balance and feel, plenty of power, and its a RIDGID...This one is replacing a 6mth old PC, and yes you have to register on line and mail that in with the UPC from the box, but come on, its for LIFETIME......how much better can that get...or buy one of the "others", then start buying battery's then see which one is more of a hassle... I give it 10 stars.........

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Great Drill.....BEWARE of batteries This is a very tough review to write. I say this because the Drill is absolutely fantastic. However, this is where the fantastic immediately comes to a halt. The issue is with the battery(s). I recently built two Loft-Style beds for my young kids. It was quite an undertaking and I needed an 18v drill for the majority of the assembly. I went down to the local Home Depot and picked up this kit; primarily because it came with two batteries. I know most will balk that a two star rating is too strong of a negative to rate this, but the batteries are the main and driving force behind the drill. Anyhow, I noticed after drilling two 2 1/2 inch screws into a 4x6 the battery already depleted a whole tick on the battery guage. I thought this was just bad luck, but I tried recharging, depleting both batteries over a span of a week just to make sure. Essentially what I am left with is an awesome drill with two batteries that will last no more than 20-35 minutes tops with light use. I did indeed exchange the kit and experienced the same thing a second time around.....sigh. I do love this drill but the batteries are abysmal at best. I think I may spend the money and get the bigger batteries to see if this makes a difference. So yes and no do I recommend this kit :/
