IS 3 AMPS REALLY STRONG ENOUGH?

EVEN THE CHEAPEST $29 JIG SAW IN THE AISLE IS 4.5 AMPS AND THE BETTER ONES ARE AROUND 6 AMPS

I couldn't get the saw to bog down, even through very wet 2 by PT.

Blades included?

does this saw come with a blade (s)?
Asked by: Ser
Yes. In fact, two blades are included - one for metal and the other for wood. I would suggest, however, purchasing new blades - possibly a set of Bosch or the like. The blades that come with the unit are easily bent and lack the "fine" cutting capability of nicer blades. You can get a pack of 4-6 for about $9.00. Be sure you get the "T-style" and NOT the "U".

Does this saw have a lock to keep the angle from moving while cutting?
Asked by: Mich
Yes it has one but it does not work very well. You can tighten the locking screw until your hand turns blue and it will still slip under strong sideways pressure.

This saw was not the least expensive tool of its kind at Home Depot or the most. Seemed like a good middle of the road tool when I purchased it. It features an orbital cutting function which I did not utilize, and it does come with a case. Some of the other reviews for this saw hit the nail right on the head. I realize these saws are NOT designed to cut through oak 2x4s - but my uses for this saw were merely recreational; mostly 1x4s and similar sized light timbers. First, one cannot see the blade while cutting - which is more than just an annoyance if you follow my lead. There is a light that shines upon your work - however, not being able to see the blade makes the light non negotiable. Second, the base which has a retaining set screw, would not remain tight after a short time - no matter how much torque I placed upon it; which makes keeping cuts vertical virtually impossible. Third, the roller bearing guide which is designed to retain the blade in a central position - did not hold the blade in place, and even the Bosch blades I purchased for this saw would bend and not allow for a straight cut. Fourth, the roller guide eventually imploded while I was cutting a relatively light piece of wood. One additional thing - the distance between the edge of the base and the blade is different on both the right and the left sides; personally this is an odd design flaw and makes for multiple measurements if one uses a fence to line up the cut. I had this saw for approximately 6 months of residential/hobby use and returned it during the warranty period. For about an additional $40 ; I would recommend purchasing the Makita jig saw that is also offered at Home Depot.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst Ridgid Tool Three big negatives, base always comes loose, power switch is not in a user ergonomic place and it is next to impossible to have a cut line to blade view when cutting.

It was the least expensive saw at the retailer and I thought how can you mess up a jig saw. After a few months of light use, the base became impossible to keep adjusted. No matter how tight the adjustment screw is, the base will be out of adjustment within 2-3" of cutting on anything tougher than 1/4" plywood. The light does not illuminate the area in front of the blade. I will be purchasing another brand to take it's place.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Great saw little awkward at first Bought this saw today to replace my old black & decker that was stolen by our crack head helper, hes no longer with us but i had that saw for years. This saw needs time getting used to. The on and off swithch is in a bad spot because there is no handle. The light makes it hard to see your marks. It does cut very good and accurate. I read on some reviews that people cannot see the blade. On the front of the saw there is something you can look at and it cuts right on the line. It stays straight. I like how it starts slow and works up to speed. I install laminate so no more chipping when starting off. I was going to return it when I cut my first few boards, thought it was going to be useless. By the end of the day I gotten used to it and decided to keep it. Another nice feature is it takes both T and U shank blades..

Directions are very well written. My favorite functional items are (1) the fan that blows the sawdust away from the cutting line and (2) the slow starting action of the blade - takes a couple of seconds to build up to full speed; allows me enough time to be centered on the cutting line and then start cutting at full speed.

The soft start is nice, even gives a short delay from flipping the switch to first blade movement. Switches easily between orbital and straight and suck vs blow for dust

Yes, it is awkward to turn on and off when making a cut as you have to use another hand or release your grip to flip the switch. Yes, you cannot see where the blade is going to cut unless you are almost eye level with the blade. Yes, it has a great light, just wish it was focused on the line you are trying to follow, Yes, the base wallows around like a drunken sailor (no offence to drunken sailors). Get use to up to 70 degree beveled cuts.. sometimes it passes through the 90 degree setting that you almost broke the screw off trying to set.. Speaking of that, they put the degree scale inside the handle where you cannot look straight at it so that 90 degree setting was a guess at best. Yes, it is compact so you can get between shelves that you could only make with it or a sonic cutter. Been too long to take back so I just add it to my collect of tools I rarely use (very, very rarely - I have to be desperate). I also wish I would have paid a couple of dollars more for variable speed instead of a variable shoe. Not a go to tool except in special cases.
