Questions & Answers

is this good for snaking out a toilet bowl to the sewer

Asked by: Joe
It is not recommended for this, probably because of possible damage to the bowl. I suppose if you remove the toilet, you could try it.

Can I unclog my toilet with this device?

Example: I have looked at the manual and can't figure out what I did wrong.
Asked by: Lockett
Thank you for contacting RIDGID. You would need to remove the toilet to use this machine to clear the drain line. We offer the K-3 and the K-6 for to provide fast and safe clearing of toilet obstructions. For information on these options, please see this link: https://www.ridgid.com/us/en/toilet-augers

I call up 49.99 drain unclogging service and was told that since its a holiday weekend the price is double. Wtf? I refused to give in to them so I went to my local Home Depot and picked up this bad boy. This machine is a beast. Worked better than the 49.99 guys machines and I did it even quicker than them. Well worth the money. Adios 49.99 !!!!!

The small diameter cables are very easy to flip inside the drum, and if you aren't careful you can easily get your hand wrapped around the cable. These smaller cables are easy to kink as well. You want to be cautious when using one. Keep the drill as close to the drain opening as possible so that there is only as much loose and exposed cable as you absolutely have to have. Exposed cable can twist up on itself, damaging the cable; catch on objects like your hand, hair or beard which I know all too well from experience; or wind up hitting fixtures and causing damage. If you hit an object in the line and are not careful the cable will flip in the drum and knot itself up. If this happens you will need to pull the drum out and re-feed the cable in to it. Also, never run a cable machine in reverse. The reverse function is used only to unwind the cable if it gets wrapped up, or attempt and dislodge it if it gets stuck. Running a cable in reverse under strain will damage it, and Ridgid will not warranty a cable damaged in this way. For my money, I usually use a small drum machine inside a home, but I do have these on my trucks. They can work, but can be very problematic to the uninitiated. It takes some time to use these without any issues, and if you ruin a cable you won't be saving yourself any money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Little steep but WELL WORTH IT Its expensive for just a little household work but if you feel you need it, its worth it. Especially the auto feed/retrieve, works like a champ and is easy to operate and stops the mess. Its not for the clogged toilet, use the Rigid 6ft toilet auger for that, another great tool, but if its a main line remove the toilet and use the drain gun. I own a couple of rentals and have had all types clogged lines and wish I could have bought this years ago. This is one product that really works like it promoted and does it well....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product! This tool works great. I was able to unclog my tub in minutes. It is powerful. I have used other tools before and none have done the job as well as this one. Worth every cent.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from hands down without a doubt highly effective. I can compare this directly to the typical consumer-targeted pipe snaking options. The drill-spun reel drums, manual snakes and such of various sizes/designs. My tub's drain was completely clogged (standing water in the tub). My three alternatives were just flat out ineffective. So before calling in hired help I headed to Home depot to see what better equipment might be on the market. Came home with this. *Way* more powerful than I expected. Comparing this to a drill-powered snake is like comparing a regular sports car to a track spec race car. Massive torque if you gun the trigger, and a terrific design that enables you to keep persistent/varying pressure on the clog while the snake tip chews up (in my case) pieces of silicone caulk that had fallen into the tub during renovation, years of hair and residue, rusted pipe, etc. I worked at the clog for 3+ hours nearly zero progress w/ the other tools. I had this in the room for less than 15 minutes and had it running huge volumes of water down the drain. The variable speed control and ability to control snake direction/length separate from the rotation direction is absolutely clutch. I am under the impression that the ability to apply forward pressure on the clog w/ persistent twisting was what made the difference in my scenario. This is a flat out great piece of gear. Does what it is intended to do. Looking forward to attacking the 1st floor bathroom next, but thought I'd share my sense of victory.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Phenomenal Machine This machine is lightweight and powerful, it is worth the extra money to avoid the headache. The K45AF immediately started producing results and has since paid for itself in the first week of use. This little hand held unit was able to remove grout and mortar that tile setter flushed down drain. The homeowner was very happy and the auto feed feature works great as long as you pay close attention.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tmv Plumbing My general snake did not have an auto feed and I had a blocked drain that was above my head and this auto feed was fantastic because it fed itself up into the drain above my head as I held one hand on the front and held the trigger with the hand and was able to push while it fed at the same time cleared the drain too and also did another one similar and cleared that one also. Great Machine !
