ROBERTS AirGuard Premium Underlayment is ideal for use under laminate and engineered wood flooring. It features an innovative AirFlow Technology that releases trapped moisture as a vapor to prevent damage to floors and subfloors. Its 3-layer design protects laminate and engineered hardwood flooring: The top layer is made of an impermeable film that keeps moisture away from flooring; the middle layer consists of thousands of cushioning, stabilizing polyshims that support the finished flooring; and the bottom layer is a permeable film that wicks moisture up from concrete or wood subfloors. Can this be used under LVP flooring?
Thank you for your question. The AirGuard 630 sq. ft. 5-in-1 Underlayment with Microban® is specifically designed for use beneath floating laminate and engineered wood flooring. It is not recommended for use under luxury vinyl plank (LVP) flooring unless the LVP manufacturer specifically permits a 2 mm foam underlayment of this type. Always follow the flooring manufacturer's installation guidelines, as using an unapproved underlayment may affect floor performance and warranty coverage.
Can it be used under marmoleum loose lay sheet goods
No—Roberts AirGuard is not designed or recommended for use under Marmoleum (Forbo) loose‑lay sheet goods, because it is engineered specifically for floating laminate and engineered wood floors, not resilient sheet flooring. Customer Care
Crackling when walked on
Crackling when walked on is usually due to subfloor unevenness, debris, poorly locked planks, and lack of the underlayment lying completely flat. Please call customer care at 866-435-8665 for further assistance. Customer Care
Can the sheet be cut to create strips?
Roberts AirGuard underlayment can be cut into strips. However, doing so may affect moisture protection and warranty coverage if the cuts create gaps or unsealed seams. Cutting is normally intended for trimming perimeter excess and removing overlap flaps. Customer Care
Does this have any heat/cold insulating qualities?
Yes, the Roberts Air Guard does provide a small amount of thermal insulation, but only at a modest level. The R value is 0.39 which does offer some resistance to heat/cold but should not be considered a primary thermal insulator. Customer Care
I had several nails that broke off when removing from old flooring so I just hammered them down as much as possible will this be a problem when replacing with new flooring?
If you are using the Air Guard Underlayment on the subfloor, it is recommended that the product be floated for the installation of engineered wood and laminate flooring and not pierced. Customer Care
Can thus be used underneath SPC vinyl planks?
Thank you for your inquiry. AirGuard® 5-in-1 Underlayment is specifically designed for laminate and engineered wood flooring. It is not recommended for SPC (stone plastic composite) planks, as most SPC floors either have an attached pad or require an underlayment approved by the flooring manufacturer to avoid locking-system damage and warranty issues. We recommend checking the SPC flooring manufacturer’s installation guidelines before selecting an underlayment.
Can I use this underlayment with laminate patting?
We would recommend that you check with the manufacturer of the laminate flooring. If the flooring has an attached pad the manufacturer of the flooring would need to advise if an additional underlayment may be used.
