Questions & Answers

Do I have to use the product in all toilets or just the one that closest to the sewage line? How much product to use?

Asked by: JadeK
Apply the entire contents of the one pound bottle directly into the toilet closest to leaving the house. Once the product is applied do not use any more water in the entire house for 6 hours. In the morning return back to normal water usage.

My line is about 82 feet long clay tile. My root problem is in the last 20 feet. If I put 2 bottles in do I put both bottles in before I flush and how many times do I flush with 2 bottles? Or what is the procedure for a line this long?
Asked by: jugs

Is this the one you pour in your toilet

Asked by: TONYMAC3717
Yes, that is how it is applied in order to get it into your sewer system. You flush it down and then you are not supposed to flush the toilet for several hours.

Will this work in a backyard drain? And how long does it take to dissolve the roots?

Asked by: Vince
It will kill any roots it comes in contact with. It continues working for a while after you introduce it (usually via a toilet). Not sure what you mean by backyard drain. French drain? Sewer lateral? Not sure if using on something outside a sanitary sewer would be legal as it would eventually find its way into groundwater, sump pump, or near by storm drain. If your french drain daylights, the foam will kill any vegetation on the surface it comes into contact with. Regarding how long it takes to kill the roots: It starts immediately. If the line is completely plugged this product won't work very well because it won't be able to flush through the system. That is why it foams - so it can fill the entire space of the pipe as it flushes through the pipe. If the roots are large (blocks much of the open area of the pipe) you could actually make things worse as the dead root ball can lodge itself against other blockages (grease, etc). I wouldn't use this product on a line that is completely blocked. I would also only use it on a sewer (not a storm or combined sewer, only a sanitary sewer). This product is best used on pipes that have camera verification of fine roots in a sewer system.

This product is different from a product made of crystals because it is powder. It says that there are two parts in the container but it looked like the center was just a different color powder. Anyway, I dumped the whole container into the toilet and flushed while I was putting the product in. I noticed that part of the powder looked damp and clumped together as I put it into the toilet. I flushed twice and let it sit in the line overnight. If you have a plumber do this part, they charge about $179. I decided to try this instead and it worked. No roots for 6 months. I'll apply again at 6 month intervals. It foams in the pipe so any roots entering from the top will be treated too. The label says it doesn't contain copper. The only thing that I didn't like is that the powder can drift so I had to wipe down the bathroom floor to protect my pets. It works really well and is worth the few extra dollars than the product made with crystals.

After buying my own snake and dealing with the nasty poo and food, breaking snake line and hiring a plumber, I found this and decided to try it. I was VERY skeptical and first time using it was a success. After years of using it on a regular basis (every quarter), I have not had to buy a new snake line or hire a plumber. I have 100+ feet of main to the city main. If everyone READS the instructions, 1 bottle covers only 50 feet. That includes from the toilet to the main. If your tree is out in the middle of your yard, you need to estimate the total distance from your toilet to the city main and use the appropriate number of jars. I buy 3 bottles every quarter to go 100+ feet to the city main. Please be smart and shake the jar in the store to see if it is loose inside. As for getting a jar that is hard, return it. Home Depot has a no fuss return policy if the product is not right.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from One of my all-time favorite discoveries About ten years ago, the drain from my house backed up. The plumber found roots filling the drain line in the yard near the street, and for $200 cleared them. This mess repeated the next year, and then 8 months later, then 6 months, then every four months. Most of the time this occurred on a Friday evening; go figure. Besides being a nasty sewerage backup inside, we couldn't run water or flush for nearly a day each time, until the plumber could come out. About five years ago, I tried Roebic foaming root killer. The foaming mechanism to clear the entire pipe sounded promising. I repeat the application in the cleanout (dump the powder and follow it with a 3 1/2 gallon bucket of water) when I go to bed, every 3 months (probably could go longer but it works for me), and have not had another sewer line backup in 5 years! I would hug the guy/gal who developed this product if I met him or her. HIGHLY recommended.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It works and it works I have a 55 year old home, I applied this about 6 months ago and it solved my problem, it unclogged my main drain pipe, with the current rain in CA 6 months later I had to reapply, all makes sense more rain more roots, I applied at 11pm and at 8am without flushing my drain was free to run, i don’t know what this does inside the drain, maybe eats the roots blocking and whatever else there is in the pipe, but it just flat out works. Forget snaking forget Plummer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great--but occasional bad jar I notice that most people are very happy with the foaming root killer and a few think it's not worth it. I'm very happy, but I can see why some people are not. For the past 4 years, it has prevented expensive calls to the plumber to snake the line. However, not every jar has been as "powdery" as others. Perhaps the solidified ones were manufactured, packaged, or stored in high humidity before purchase? As long as Home Depot will let me return the occasional bad jar, I won't mind the occasional jar being bad. (But if they don't let me return it, I will definitely delete a star.)

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great Product Great product. Make sure you apply it in the toilet at night. Have to follow the directions and let it sit in the line for at least six hours. Have had so many people tell me that they have had great results. It treats about 50 feet of sewer line. If your on a septic system it will only treat from the house to the tank.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from ROOT KILLER BEEN USING THIS PRODUCT ONCE A YEAR FOR THE PAST 3 YEARS, HAVE NOT NEED TO CALL A PLUMMER SINCE THEN. PRIOR TO USING I WAS CALLING ONCE A YEAR TO HAVE THE MAIN PIPE FROM THE HOUSE TO STREET SNAKED DUE TO ROOTS. $20 BUCKS IS A LOT CHEAPER THAN THE $ 300.00 I WAS PAYING A PLUMMER EACH CALL. I WAS READING A PREVIOUS REVIEW ABOUT USING PRODUCT AT NIGHT BEFORE BED TIME IVE DONE THE SAME WITH GREAT RESULTS, LETTING PRODUCT WORK WHILE YOUR SLEEPING FOR AT LEAST 6 HOURS. AWSOME PRODUCT!!!
