Romabio Classico Limewash is an authentic, slaked-lime paint that is specially formulated to create unique white wash effects for Interior and Exterior unpainted brick, stone and other masonry surfaces. This Limewash paint is easily applied as a 1-coat process to a damp surface and is washed off with a garden hose or spray water bottle to create an antique lime wash finish equal to the look in historic Europe. Unlike German Schmear technique using mortar, this paint is breathable, high UV-resistant, and will continue to calcify and harden over the years and will not peel or chip off as it is designed for durability for the exterior.
  • Specially formulated for breathability on brick, stone and other masonry surfaces
  • After 50-70% dilution with water 1 qt. bucket will make 1.5 - 1.75 qt. of paint and covers 80 - 100 sq. ft.
  • Very flat finish provides non-reflective appearance and gives the natural lime wash look of historic Europe
  • Resists UV damage, peeling or flaking, for a durable and breathable paint finish with no maintenance, unlike a mortar wash with German schmear
  • Can be removed from most masonry surfaces within 2 days after application
  • Self-priming, 1-coat process and is applied to a damp surface and sprayed off for a whitewash effect
  • Dries in as little 10-minutes and up to 60-minutes, depending on sun and temperature and will not be affected by rain or normal weather conditions after initial application
  • Non-toxic formula will not harm lawn, trees, plants and animals
  • Naturally mold-resistant and breathable reducing the buildup of stagnant moisture
  • Soap and water cleanup cuts time in half and does not affect the environment
  • Zero-VOC formula minimizes ill-health effects
  • Concentrated formula reduces carbon footprint by up to 40%
  • Slow-set technology specially formulated to be antiqued and whitewashed, yet still creates a long-lasting finish
  • Made from lime mined directly from the Dolomites in Northern Italy that is slaked and aged
  • Best applied with large, lime wash masonry brush

Q:Can this be used on a fireplace? I have a wood burning stove insert. Will that be a problem?
by|Sep 11, 2023
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  Hi Tammy. Classico Limewash is not flammable so it's safe to use inside a firebox and therefore near a wood burning insert. But it will char so if it gets near flames, so it will most likely show the effects of soot and smoke, like most surfaces would.

Q:Can this be used on tumbled travertine backsplash tile?
      by|Aug 13, 2023
      1 Answer
      Answer This Question

A:  If the surface is natural and absorbent, it can work. However, a backsplash can get messy and need cleaning. This is NOT a washable finish so it would need frequent touch-ups. As far as your question about coverage, you change the dilution for different areas. You can do 50% dilution where you want the most coverage and 100% where you want less.

        Excellent Product
Loved applying this product. It was so easy! Mixing it, we used the lesser measure of water for a bit thicker consistency. It went on beautifully, and we did not need a second coat. Was going to distress it, but the look was so lovely, we left it as is. Coverage using that thickness was about 100 sq ft. We used a 2” brush for our fireplace, because the inexpensive $12 recommended brush we bought splattered the product everywhere! Total project time including prep and cleanup and a two inch brush was 3 hrs.

We love the look of our indoor fireplace. My husband and I lime washed one coat on our fireplace . Size Approx 8’ x 8’. We used one coat at a 1:1 ratio of water and lime wash. We used one coat because I liked the texture coming through. I am Not sure if I can post the pic but it looks amazing. We used 3/4 of the lime wash. East day job!!!

          Get it!!
Easy to use and turned out PERFECTLY !! Not drippy if you minimize the amount of water. Also, if you just want a, "light" limewash effect, (The original stone visible.) increase the water ratio to 80% water: 20% romabio. I did that vs. wiping most of the product off. (Which wastes time and money.)

Hello. We are glad you got good results. What you're describing is a dilution of 400%. We have to remind folks that overdiluting the Classico Limewash will certainly get you the look you want but when you saturate the binders, the paint won't last as long as there's very little left to hold it in place. Romabio does have lime paints that can be diluted up to 300% to achieve the same look without sacrificing durability. Visit romabio.com for more info on all our different products. RomabioHC

            Easy and beautiful
I’m finishing my entire house using the Avorio White. Mixing at a 1:1 ratio and slapping it on the house with a paintbrush. It’s time consuming, but yhe product is extremely easy to work with. I am a first time painter.

So easy even I did it
So normally I have to do things 3 times before I get it right. With this, I think I got it the 1st time! Really easy to paint on, wipe/spray off & clean up. Im so happy! I used Bianco white as I wanted it the bright white so as to match the walls. It brightened up my whole living room. Definitely the right choice! BTW - I used a quart & have alot left over. $35 paint + an old brush-boom! Saved alot of $

Took a lot more than we thought
It goes on easy with correct brush. But be careful to not do in the hot Sun as it dries too fast. I was able to power wash it off and fix what I needed to. We mixed it about 50:50 as it didn’t cover the red brick well otherwise. Took way more than we thought it would to do the house but it turned out nice!

Hi STDX! We are so glad your project turned out well. Yes, some brick can be much more absorbent than others and that's a tough thing to predict. And you're absolutely right about the flash drying. It makes distressing harder sometimes and other times won't allow full adhesion because it dries before it's had a chance to get inside the brick to calcify which gives you the strongest bond. We suggest trying to chase the shade when applying for optimal performance. RomabioHC

Super easy way to update that old fireplace
My wife and I helped my mom out with this one and I think it came out great! I would however recommend mixing it with a little less water than is called for. This fireplace took the whole .67 Gal and the color was Avorio White. I used a generic deck brush and that seemed to work out very good. A great update for 100 bucks or so.
