The top is somewhat tapered to the screen but we recommend putting it under a gutter to gather the maximum amount of rainwater.

We only have one at this time.

My barrel came with instructions to drill a hole in the top—is this necessary? It already has an overflow.

Only if you’re going to connect multiple barrels together. Otherwise no need to drill.

Plastic Spigot leak?

Asked by Becca December 19, 2018

I had to use a thread sealer to stop a leak where the spigot goes into the barrel but the spigot is fine after two years. I would contact the manufacturer for a replacement. You should not have to buy the brass one.

One is in the very front top and another you drill a 1" hole on the side, at the flat spot near the top and insert a valve. You might be able to connect tubing to the top 1" valve to run overflow somewhere. You can connect a garden hose at bottom that will flow out to other buckets, etc.

Can this barrel remain outside during winter if filled with water?

Not if it snows. Water expands when it freezes and will probably split the drum. I live in Southern California and we do not get much rain here, much less snow.

Will you need mosquito pellets for the water?

Not if you drain the water frequently and do not let it sit too long. Call the manufacturer.

This was easy to install - I did it all by myself! These are so necessary for me. We have well water with electric powered pump. When we lose power, we have no water. Now, with 2 barrels, I have 100 gals of water so my horse can still have drinking water. I was wondering about the plastic being flimsy, but my 1200 lb horse has tried to knock it over and mess with it, but he hasn't broken it!

We just installed new gutters and I had them aim the downspout into the rain barrel. After a good Florida rain storm it filled up quickly and the overflow hole at the top worked as it should. It was easy to setup and looks nice. I may buy another one for the front of the house.

Delivery was as promised. I've had it about a month and was lucky to have a good rain storm to fill it up. It showed no sign of bugling or leaking. Very satisfied.

Definitely a good product for a rainy day, this rain barrel is tough and rugged. It has a flat surface on one side, enabling it to be placed next to a wall or fence. Two little knobs enable easy lifting (when empty!), and there is an overflow port at the top, above the spigot where it will get noticed. Finally, a mesh filter prevents debris from entering the barrel. An optional stand is available to raise the barrel up and provide minimal water pressure for a special rain barrel soaker hose. NOTE: do not use a conventional soaker hose that requires high pressure in order to operate.

Perfect
This rain barrel is sleek and blends in nicely with our gardens. Complete with spigot. It was installed uphill to gravity water our chickens in the coop. I’ve added quick connects to the hose so we can easily go from barrel to tap.

while the product is easy to set up, seems very sturdy and at the right price, the hose bib faucet threads will not accept a hose connection. They are plastic and seem to be cut about 1/16" too small. as there is very little pressure i made it work with much Teflon tape and pipe dope. it has fifty gallons of water in it right now; but, when it runs down aa bit, i'll empty it and replace the plastic hose bib with a better quality brass one.

The packaging was just aweful. I went to lift the box up off my porch to move it to my backyard where it was going to end up and the barrel and screws fell out of the bottom. It's simple, I love it. The shape works against the house. As soon as it filled up though, the back flat side of the barrel bowed, aesthetic issue only. Also, when I put the plastic strainer on the top it laid flat, 24 hours later the thing was bowed up. Easy fix, I'll just have to undo the screw and lay it back down. This was a pretty easy project for me.

I installed this three weeks ago to be use in conjunction with my new ROS system. Twenty feet of line went from the system under the kitchen sink to the rain barrel in the garage. The reason I rated the barrel as only "Fair" is that the plastic spigot was inferior in that the garden hose would not stay tight. I remedied the problem by purchasing & installing a brass spigot which performs to my satisfaction. At the time of my order, the rain barrel with the brass spigot was not available.
