Asked by: mhs
It's easy to push, however, if you have really overgrown grass it'll take a little more effort.

Does the cord get in the way while mowing? Any chance of mowing over the cord? My autistic son does the mowing, so don't want to risk damaging the cord.
Asked by: Kalexa
Yes it can get in the way and cut. But, I have used an electric lawn mower for over 50 years and never ran over the cord. It is very easy to move the cord to the side as you mow and it only takes 4 or 5 times mowing the yard to get the hang of it. If you always leave the trailing cord say to the left of the direction you are mowing then each turn on the yard should be to the right. That way the cord stays out of the way. In fact another analogy is it is just like flipping the vacuum cleaner power cord out of the way.

Does it need a 2 or 3 prong extension cord?

Asked by: Mom
It needs a 2 prong cord but will work with a 3 prong.

Shocked how small this thing really is, but it is a work-horse and cuts grass very low. If I could do it again, I'd get an extended warranty with Home depot, because I'm not convinced this thing will last very long, it seems like a toy for a kid. But I do have a quarter acre with a decent size grass yard, and I was able to mow it in about an hour. I mowed over 2 food weeds, and it ate them up like nothing, a little struggle on thick grass, just have to move it around. It's not easy to push over thick areas, or on uneven terrain. The catcher only catches about half the grass cut. But for the price, I'm happy with it, and yard looks nice. Like I said, extended warranty is a smart idea. Perfect for small yards, it folds up easy, very small. I ran over cord, it takes some getting used to, have to constantly hold cord, and move it out of the way, but get used to it, for the price.

I needed a new mower so I found this one on Home Depot and when I ordered on a Saturday it was at my door on a Tuesday with free shipping. I was debating getting the 16 or the 13 inch but my yard is smaller so I went with the 13 inch. I never bought Ryobi before and I didn’t know what to expect. Putting it together was easy and fast. I was mowing within minutes. Now this was the first cut of the year. Usually I wait until I HAVE to cut the grass early in the year simply because in my area it rains. I am in western Pennsylvania but it rains more than in Seattle! So the grass was thick. Looking at it in the box, I was worried. Would this make the cut? The grass was tall. It looked tiny and it is. People in the family pushed me to get the 16 inch. But the 13 inches worked out well. And having to use a cord was ok too. The only trouble I had was that the mower is made to be very light. The deck is plastic and my old mowers were all metal. But the Ryobi 13 inch is a durable looking mower. And my old mower rusted. But being light I noticed when I pulled it back the front wheels lifted a bit, especially when the bag was getting full of grass. This really isn’t a problem. You just have to be mindful of that. And that is one way it tells you the bag is full. This being a light mower you might not notice you’re pushing a full bag of grass! But the cut was clean and the bagger caught it all with ease. I had a mulcher and this mower can do that too. They give you a plug to stuff up the discharge hole for the grass so it mulches. I hadn’t realized how much grass I actually cut. I had a nice big pile in the compost pile very quickly! The wheel adjustments are easy since it’s just one adjustment on the one front wheel. And the bagger has a nice handle on it to carry. I liked the easy connection for the bagger too. The flap really keeps the grass in the bag and not on my shoes! I didn’t pay much for this mower since it was on sale. But I checked the website and it’s still a good deal after the sale. Yeah I could have bought a bigger one but I really wouldn’t have saved that much more time. I would have spent $40 more but this one even stores better. My old mower would stick out a bit this one takes up little space and is out of the way. Batteries would be nice and when they get the price of those down a bit I will look at those. But for my yard this mower does the trick and gave me a nice clean cut. I have to look at other Ryobi tools! We have a blog and we wrote an article about this mower. You should check it out: https://www.beautycookskisses.com/2019/04/an-electric-lawn-mower-youll-want-to-own.html I see people posting about how they are disappointed in the size of the mower. Well let me say I had an 18 inch corded mulching mower that just died. I get done in about the same amount of time. And this one you can get into tight spots easier than some giant mower. I like it.

Our 7 year old daughter pulled it out of the box and assembled it herself. The only part she needed help with was lifting the flap and putting on the bag at the same time. But I can't imagine anyone over 10 having a problem with that. We got rid of our big front lawn for something more drought tolerant, but still had a 20x60 lawn in the backyard. I was using a manual push mower but it was a pain having to rake leaves each time I mowed. This picks up all the leaves and gives a much nicer cut. It is a small mower so it takes a couple more trips back and forth, still much faster than the old manual one. The bag is also comparably sized. So if there's a lot of leaves or tall grass I do need to stop once to empty. Of course, if you're using the mulching option that's not a problem. The only thing that took getting used to was having to drag a cord around. Figured out that if I start at the point closest to the outlet and work away from there it's never a problem.

I'm a 60 year old woman with arthritis and this mower is perfect for my 'little' yard and my condition. It weighs less than my vacuum cleaner. I used it the other day on my yard and it worked perfectly, I can now vacuum the yard! LOL! My husband say's it looks like a formula 1 race car. About the cord...since I'm use to plugging in and vacuuming the house it's should be a no brainier to plug the mower in and mow out toward the farthest part of the yard. This way it helps keep the cord from getting in the way, but other than it mowed the grass nicely. The bagger is nice too and it's light weight as well.

We are re-landscaping so we will no longer have a front grass yard to mow. I figured it was time to dive into an electric mower. For what we are left with (a small postage stamp size lawn) this will probably do fine.It is very small. I am a little concerned about the plastic construction, but my prior experiences with Ryobi products hopes that this will hold up. We've had it for a couple of months. As long as your lawn isn't really tall or thick, this will cut just fine. It is very light, easy to maneuver, and easy to store. I wouldn't pay anything more than I did for it, but it seems to be OK. Time will really be the measure. PROs: - Light - Cheap(ish) - Easy to maneuver - Small/easy to store CONs: - Plastic construction - Small (takes more runs to complete yard) - Bogs down on thick/tall grass

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Powers through! Great little mower. Just took it out of the box today and assembly was a breeze. Two steps and you're ready to go! There is a height adjustment on the front left wheel. I just bought my home and the grass was a bit thick and overgrown (lots of small flowery weeds). It did struggle though this. I had to lift the front end up a bit and pass over a couple of times. I'm excited to see how it works once I get it under control. I have just under a 1/2 acre and I have one 120-ft cord. I only did a small section before the sun went down and suspect I will need to get another one. Great value for the money! I'm sure it would be even better for a smaller area. The only annoying thing it that there's not a place to hang the cord from, so I had to tuck it between the hand and the starting lever. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

The machine worked very well, but it took too long to mow my yard (larger than it seems) and when the grass was tall I had to mow one strip three times. The nice part is that it is electric so I never ran out of gas or battery charge, but dealing with the extension cord was kind of a pain. When the underpart got clogged with grass, it was easy to spray with a hose and clean out. It wasn't overly loud. It sounded like a vacuum cleaner. I never used the bagging feature, just mulched which worked well. The lever used to lower/raise the machine was easy to use. The self-propelled feature was beneficial to my bad back. I would buy this in the future if I had a smaller yard.
