Does this saw has a chain brake? If not, why doesn't Ryobi care about operator safety?

It does not have a chain brake even though it lists it under specifications. What looks like a chainbrake is a hand guard. The description should be changed. While the chain does slow quickly once the trigger is released, there is some time for at least a minor injury to occur. I believe its important to wear the appropriate safety gear (chaps/faceshield) and abide by the rules and angles to safely operate the saw - this will protect you perhaps more than a chain brake.

How long does the battery last ?

Asked by Gee April 18, 2019

Not long at all. I can maybe get 15 minutes of work in before the battery dies. The chainsaw itself can cut through some sizeable pieces, but the battery won't last more than 10 cuts (being generous) on a log with a DBH of 15" When asked what chainsaw I recommend by a co-worker, I recommended a Stihl.

No, oil comes with it. Purchase a few gallons of oil. It uses 1 quart per 20 minutes of run time. The Ryobi Manual explains how it leaks oil while sitting. However, it leaks more than that. It creates a nice oily cut line for you to follow.

You are mixing apples and oranges. Think of voltage as the rate at which power passes through the system; the aH (amp-hours) is like how much gasoline is in a tank. So, a 2.0 aH battery will hold half as much power as a 4.0 aH battery; a 6.0 aH battery will hold three times as much power as a 2.0 aH battery. All Ryobi 40 volt batteries are interchangeable with each other.

I just cut twelve 10" dia fir logs with half a charge. No hesitation. You might be pushing too hard on the bar, just let the cutters pull the bar through.

Maybe you are tightening too much and stretching it under load. Or maybe the big side nuts are loose on your saw. When it's cold you should be able to lift the guides half way out of the track. I loosen the 2 big nuts before adjusting the tightening screw and then I tighten the 2 big nuts.

There actually was no assembly except putting on the blade that's pretty easy I was really surprised that the power is about equal to a gas chainsaw the only thing is the battery of course has to be recharged when it runs out but you get a really good 30 to 40 minutes of high usage more if you use it at a lower rate

My first cordless Ryobi tool was the leaf blower as a replacement for my small corded blower with a ridiculously cumbersome extension cord to drag around. I've used a lot of chainsaws over the years, all of them gas powered. Based on my positive experience with the blower, a month ago I decided to give the Ryobi cordless chainsaw a try. Out of the box, the first impression was the extremely informative instruction manual. It's probably the most comprehensive manual I've ever seen. Fast forward to the chainsaw - now that I've had a chance to use it extensively while clearing out a couple dozen mature nuisance hackberry trees. I find it easy to use and has no problem cutting full grown trees all day long. All I've got to do is make sure the chain is tight, the oil is full and the battery charged. When I got tired and had to take a break, the chainsaw was patiently waiting to get back to work. It pulls all day like a gas saw without the loud noise and fuel issues. I already had one identical battery that came with the blower, so I brought it along as a backup if necessary. I hope others have had the same positive experiences as I have. I recommend this chainsaw without reservation. Gary G.

After a hurricane-force wind storm knocked down hundreds of trees in my neighborhood I needed to help cut up a lot of wood. With a bad back, I could no longer handle the weight of a gas-powered chainsaw. I already had other Ryobi 40 volt devices, so I purchased the RYOBI 14 in. 40-Volt chainsaw. This chainsaw outperformed all the other smaller chainsaws both battery-based and gas-powered. Since I have multiple batteries and chargers I was able to cut wood for many hours the only thing that stopped me was that chain oil ran out and the stores were sold out. Cons: No storage box or bag for a nearly $200 dollar product I would expect something. I decided to improvise one with the provided chain guard and a $15 22" Husky Tool Box. With a razor-knife and a few measured cuts it works like it was designed for this chansaw. I hesitated buying this for several weeks. I have a bow saw and thought it was good enough. I needed to remove and cut up a number of branches, and once I got to the 6” size, the bow saw was a lot of work. I already have the 40 volt string trimmer, so I decided to get the chainsaw without the battery. I hesitated because of the price, but realized I really needed this. In the time it would take me to do one cut with the bow saw, I did 7 with the chainsaw. It’s a maple tree, and the largest branch went from 6” to 10”. Smooth operation, quick work. I never operated a chainsaw before, so I read the instructions twice, and read all the online questions. I emptied the chain oil after use, and it was easy to pour back into the oil bottle. Now I know I can handle the rest of the work on my trees. Go get it!

I bought this to replace a poulan pro gas chainsaw, so glad I did. I cut up a large black walnut tree that had fallen , 18” diameter, and trimmed several Osage orange trees which are notoriously hard wood trees . Amazing power and better than expected run time . I’m very happy with this purchase

I am in general a big fan of rtobi tools, but with this chain saw i had worst experience. It had cut the first cut very well from the second cut tool became blunt and smoking. I have made sure that lubricant is full and it's lubricating. I guess it's defective blade. Looking at few more reviews this month from homedepot defective chain seems to be more prominent. Better quality control will help before we loose faith in ryobi. I am planning to give it another try and heading to homedepot to exchange. Hope this works.

Best money ever spent! Put my electric chainsaw to shame. I went through a 18" diameter trunk three times in less than seven minutes. It's always nice to buy something that exceeds your expectations.

Great little machine
I recently had to replace my 42cc 18in chainsaw, while not as powerful, it is so much simpler and easier to use. No gas to mix, light weight and enough power to take out and cut up a dozen 6in wide 20ft trees

I was skeptical this was going to hold up longer than a few minutes without gas power. Figured the battery would be drained after a few big limbs. Nope. I sheared huge limbs from the bottom 8 feet of 20+ cedar trees and it still had half a battery left. Took me two more hours just to drag them all into a pile, that's how many there were. Torque was incredible, even from a standstill within a limb. The couple of times I got the blade caught due to the weight of the limb shifting, the torque of the chain tore itself free no problem. Even better, it's light enough that in the rare case of an overhead limb that was just out of reach, I could hold it in one hand for a stretch. Wouldn't recommend doing that often due to safety reasons but I was glad it was light enough to do that every once in a while. Did I mention it is quiet? It's quiet. May be my second favorite new toy after the cordless blower that I also got from Ryobi. These are incredible tools, makes it really easy to want to get out and get things done and ditch the cumbersome gasoline engines and long extension cords. Will probably buy most of the tools Ryobi offers in this lineup, they are incredible well engineered and convenient.
