The ad at the Home Depot website claims 10.6 pounds. I have not personally weighed it. I do not know if this weight includes the battery or not.

You need oil to lubricate the chain. One way to check if any oil is getting to your chain is to prop up a piece of cardboard against a tree and then run your chainsaw in front of it. You should see a slight spatter of oil on the cardboard if the oil is lubricating the chain. If you don't see any oil splatter at all, then I would suggest taking off the bar and chain and looking for the oil port where the oil comes out and lubricates your chain. Refer to the owner's manual for your model if you need. If the oil port is clogged, unclog it, then run the engine a bit in front of the cardboard to see if any oil spits out. If the oil port is bone dry, then you might have a warranty issue and it's probably time to send it in. If the chainsaw costs too much to ship for warranty repair, you could manually lubricate your chain periodically between cuts as needed.

In theory, the battery should last for several years. However, the technology is not perfect, meaning that the microchip that regulates the power draw can become defective. When that happens, the battery senses that something is wrong, and won't work. THIS IS WHY IT IS CRITICAL TO REGISTER THE SAW AND THE DEVICE WITH RYOBI THE MANUFACTURER. Ryobi warrants the saw for five years and the battery for three years. If the battery goes defective, you call Ryobi, and the technician walks you through placing the battery into the charger cradle and asking you what pattern of blinking lights you see. If you see a defective pattern and the battery is under warranty, they will ship you a new battery. Yes, the batteries are interchangeable, so they actually gauge the age of the battery off of the date of purchase of the saw, and add three years to that date. If it is within warranty, you are good to go.

This is one of the problems with LI batteries...the microchip is actually extremely delicate. The easiest thing to do is to return the battery and have your proof of purchase or the credit card that was used to buy the saw and battery / batteries. It is much harder, and will take much longer, to do this over the phone. When you buy it from HD, it has a defect, and your date of purchase is two months or less, they will exchange the one you bought for another no questions asked. This is especially true if in your case, there is zero wear on the saw.

What does voltage and Ah represent. Does higher numbers mean better performance and longer run time?

Asked by Bob December 26, 2020

Answers

This chainsaw only uses the 40v batteries. A 4.0 Ah battery will have a longer runtime than a 2.6 Ah battery, but I see no difference in performance. Depending on what I cut, I get about 15 minutes run time on the 2.6 Ah battery and about 25 minutes run time on the 4.0 Ah battery. It takes about 3 hours for my batteries to cool down and recharge. This is a great chainsaw for small jobs, but if you need longer run times, then I would suggest looking at gas chainsaws.

There actually was no assembly except putting on the blade that's pretty easy I was really surprised that the power is about equal to a gas chainsaw the only thing is the battery of course has to be recharged when it runs out but you get a really good 30 to 40 minutes of high usage more if you use it at a lower rate

Satisfied Customer
My first cordless Ryobi tool was the leaf blower as a replacement for my small corded blower with a ridiculously cumbersome extension cord to drag around. I've used a lot of chainsaws over the years, all of them gas powered. Based on my positive experience with the blower, a month ago I decided to give the Ryobi cordless chainsaw a try. Out of the box, the first impression was the extremely informative instruction manual. It's probably the most comprehensive manual I've ever seen. Fast forward to the chainsaw - now that I've had a chance to use it extensively while clearing out a couple dozen mature nuisance hackberry trees. I find it easy to use and has no problem cutting full grown trees all day long. All I've got to do is make sure the chain is tight, the oil is full and the battery charged. When I got tired and had to take a break, the chainsaw was patiently waiting to get back to work. It pulls all day like a gas saw without the loud noise and fuel issues. I already had one identical battery that came with the blower, so I brought it along as a backup if necessary. I hope others have had the same positive experiences as I have. I recommend this chainsaw without reservation. Gary G.

Surprising battery power!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I purchased a battery powered Ryobi blower a year or so and was so impressed with it that when I saw the double tool deal on the 40 volt trimmer and chainsaw I purchased it, I couldn't wait to use the chainsaw! I had a tree that at the trunk was about 20 inches in diameter and this 14" chainsaw cut it like butter! Obviously I couldn't cut through it in one cut I had to do half and then do the other side and down it came! Since then I have been telling all my friends about Ryobi battery powered products and I myself will be purchasing more of your products, thank You again for a high guality product! Here's a picture.

Good Enough For My Job
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Very happy with this saw so far. Pulled down 1 tree this morning and had no problems. Cuts well....maximum diameter for my job was about 8 inches. Battery life was a concern for me, but all the reviews I read before purchase showed it wouldn't be a problem. They were right. Used 75% charge to cut down and reduce all limbs to firewood. Easy starter was my primary reason for going electric. leased with this purchase.

This chainsaw did what was needed and more.
After a hurricane-force wind storm knocked down hundreds of trees in my neighborhood I needed to help cut up a lot of wood. With a bad back, I could no longer handle the weight of a gas-powered chainsaw. I already had other Ryobi 40 volt devices, so I purchased the RYOBI 14 in. 40-Volt chainsaw. This chainsaw outperformed all the other smaller chainsaws both battery-based and gas-powered. Since I have multiple batteries and chargers I was able to cut wood for many hours the only thing that stopped me was that chain oil ran out and the stores were sold out. Cons: No storage box or bag for a nearly $200 dollar product I would expect something. I decided to improvise one with the provided chain guard and a $15 22" Husky Tool Box. With a razor-knife and a few measured cuts it works like it was designed for this chansaw. Glad I finally bought it
I hesitated buying this for several weeks. I have a bow saw and thought it was good enough. I needed to remove and cut up a number of branches, and once I got to the 6” size, the bow saw was a lot of work. I already have the 40 volt string trimmer, so I decided to get the chainsaw without the battery. I hesitated because of the price, but realized I really needed this. In the time it would take me to do one cut with the bow saw, I did 7 with the chainsaw. It’s a maple tree, and the largest branch went from 6” to 10”. Smooth operation, quick work. I never operated a chainsaw before, so I read the instructions twice, and read all the online questions. I emptied the chain oil after use, and it was easy to pour back into the oil bottle. Now I know I can handle the rest of the work on my trees. Go get it!
