Questions & Answers

What's the difference between this Ryobi Miter Saw Stand and the $99 Ryobi one also listed on the Home Depot website (Model # A18MS01G)?

Asked by: Potluck
So there's some differences in the specifications. Weight, length, etc. I now own both stands, and there are true differences: This one is smaller. That is, it is both narrower and shallower. Narrower, the length of the rails is shorter, about 3 feet long as opposed to 4 feet long. This is consistent with the overall spread with the tool supports of 7 feet vs 9 feet. Shallower, the rails are slightly closer together. And as a result, the tool mounts are slightly different. And not completely interchangeable. The smaller mount likely won't go on the larger saw stand. And the larger mount will go on the smaller stand, but the grip is not tight. That's probably only a problem if you want to set up the stand to do repeated cuts. I have mounts from the larger stand on my miter saw. And mounts from the smaller stand on my miter table. And a spare set of mounts for the larger table.

Only saw needed?

I am a beginner. If I bought this saw, could I use it for all my DIY projects, or would I also need a table saw? (I already have a circular saw). Thanks!
Asked by: Laura
If you are doing plank flooring of any kind, you need a table saw to rip pieces. I don't know why anyone would try to use a circular saw for ripping. It can only be done on large sheets. Narrow boards have to have a table saw.

The first time it was out of line, which is usually fixable, but the bolts/screws were insanely tight. Since there was the chance to strip the screws, since they're not the best, I returned it. So, got a second, current one, and the alignment looked decent, but I just went to set it up and found oil on it. I figured maybe that was just some protection for shipping, so I wiped it away, only to discover more oil later and in various places. It's definitely leaking oil. Never heard of that before, but apparently it's a thing. The guy at home depot says they do use oil in them. There's a posting about Festool Kapex leaking oil online, but it must be rare bc that's all I could find. I'm wondering if I should try a third time. I was just rebuilding my miter stand for the new one. So frustrating. Quality control is lacking. Maybe just go back to my non-slider. Too much time spent fixing this stuff, plus rebuilding my miter station.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Don’t waste your money This is the second mitre saw I purchased with the same problem. The screw you need to remove to replace blade rounds out instantly. This makes it impossible to change the blade. Also the Allen bolts you need to loosen to adjust the fence round out as soon as you try to loosen them. This saw is garbage.

This is a great saw at a great price, but it does have one significant flaw. They’ve opted for a tension based work clamp. It didn’t seem like a big deal at first but it is. Example: I have 8 identical cuts to make. With a normal locked down clamp, I make the cut, loosen the clamp half a turn, move the board, half turn back down, cut again. However with a tension based clamp it’s just going to collapse and you’ve got to mess with it after every cut. Second problem, because of the design of the base, you can’t really use any other sort of clamp. There isn’t a flat surface on the top or bottom to solidly clamp down with. Third, it’s a bit dangerous to use a sliding miter saw without a clamp. With non-sliding, I’d just use my hand to hold the wood, but with sliding you really can’t do that, especially not safely. Overall this clamp design really holds back an otherwise excellent saw.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far so good. Nice saw for a DIY guy I've been getting by with a circular saw for cuts when I needed to Cut lumber, finally bit the bullet on this Mitre saw for a larger project. I intend to use it for general framing lumber as we as trim/baseboard pieces. I've typically been a fan of the big Yellow and Red brands(Dewalt and Milwaukee) for power tools, but I couldn't justify the price tag on their mitre saws. This Ryobi fit the bill, pricing falling in the middle between the big brands and Harbor Freight saws. So far so good. Quick to set up, easy to use, and Square out of the box. Cut thru LVL beams like and dimensional lumber like butter with the included blade. Laser is nice, but a bit difficult to see in direct sunlight. Will have to see how this lasts in the long run. But it feels well made and like it will hold up to the occasional use of a DIYer for a long time.

Just got it set up - surprised by reviews that said it didn't need any adjusting as I had to adjust the fence and square the blade to the table. It took me a long time to set up because this is my first miter saw and I was going slow making sure to read the instructions. I am a weekend DIYer/beginner woodworker and this seems like it will fit my needs perfectly. I swapped out the blade for a 60 tooth diablo. Cuts very nicely. I downgraded one star because it seems like all the screws/bolts strip easily. The first saw I had, one of the bolts to adjust the fence were stripped so I had to return it. Second one is fine, but I was a lot more careful (FYI I am a woman, not a big burly man). For a power tool it seemed like I needed to be way too careful with it. Overall for $129 (for just the saw) this was a great deal and I'm looking forward to making a bunch of projects now! Stand is also very solid. Glad I got it because the saw is deep since it's a sliding miter and I don't have a big workbench.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing customer service My husband set up the saw easily but while he was putting the stand together one of the handles snapped off. We were beside ourselves that we had already broken it but we called the store and said we could bring it in and order another one. The closest store to us is 45 minutes away so we drove up a few days later with the stand. The trouble was that the stand that comes in this bundle is NOT the same as the stand sold in the store, as it is 2 feet shorter. The store couldn't switch them out and we needed to have the saw as well to perform a return since they sold as a bundle. My husband and I thought that we were up a creek but the amazing store associates in Wichita Falls worked it out to where we are able to get a new part and now the stand and saw both work wonderfully! The whole situation could have been so complicated and difficult but the management and associates at our store made the entire process painless. Thanks Home Depot!
