Only saw needed?

I am a beginner. If I bought this saw, could I use it for all my DIY projects, or would I also need a table saw? (I already have a circular saw). Thanks!
Asked by: Laura
If you are doing plank flooring of any kind, you need a table saw to rip pieces. I don't know why anyone would try to use a circular saw for ripping. It can only be done on large sheets. Narrow boards have to have a table saw.

Asked by: Cake
The sliding saw is 15 amps. The compound saw is 13 amps.

I was looking for a new miter saw that was affordable and reliable and found this Ryobi. I bought it about 5 months ago and it has not given me 1 problem. The blade it comes with was sharp and made really clean cuts. I was amazed at how versatile this saw was for the price! The measurements on it were exact and easy to read and all the nobs and adjustments work with ease. It has a decent footprint, which I really love because I am able to store it in my shop and out of the way. The only thing I don't use on the saw is the work clamp. I ended up taking it off because it was getting more in my way when I used it than it was helping. If you are looking for a really versatile miter saw and don't want to break the bank, I strongly suggest buying this saw!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Happy to have it! Needed a miter saw for awhile now. My old one died and I was slow to replace it with three remodels in motion. I borrowed dewalt, craftsman and others so I got a good feel for what’s out there and what I wanted next. I knew I needed a sliding compound miter saw. With the slide it would be half as useful to me. Got this one before starting a flooring job and I love it! Light weight, performs well, and allowed me to complete the flooring and trim with no issues. I just wish I could dial in the laser closet to the actual cut line. I have a couple tools with lasers (circular saw and wet saw) and those are dead on with the cut, this one is off by about 1/8 inch with latter I’m a bit of a perfectionist so I use the laser as a loose guide but won’t use it to guide my actual cuts. Otherwise I really like it and despite only 10” blade it cuts some pretty large boards (thanks mostly to the slide!) I hope it holds up to my demanding workload! Both as a professional and with home improvement projects... a few weeks in and I can say I’m happy for sure.

The first time it was out of line, which is usually fixable, but the bolts/screws were insanely tight. Since there was the chance to strip the screws, since they're not the best, I returned it. So, got a second, current one, and the alignment looked decent, but I just went to set it up and found oil on it. I figured maybe that was just some protection for shipping, so I wiped it away, only to discover more oil later and in various places. It's definitely leaking oil. Never heard of that before, but apparently it's a thing. The guy at home depot says they do use oil in them. There's a posting about Festool Kapex leaking oil online, but it must be rare bc that's all I could find. I'm wondering if I should try a third time. I was just rebuilding my miter stand for the new one. So frustrating. Quality control is lacking. Maybe just go back to my non-slider. Too much time spent fixing this stuff, plus rebuilding my miter station.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Saw for the DIYer This sliding compound miter saw is great. Mine came out of the box cutting straight so no need to adjust if you have to its super easy adjustment screws. The dust collection is good but really good when hooked to a shop vac. The slides are super smooth but will say you need to watch the slides for a build up of sawdust. The cutting laser is nice but I wouldn’t rely on it too much. The bevel is easy to set and the miter angles have all the positive stops that you would expect. Definitely a saw that can handle the work of a DIYer

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent saw! I’m going to be honest and say that this saw was not the saw that I walked into the store with the intent to purchase. I had another miter saw on my list after I did a lot of research. However, when I got to the store I saw a deal that was too good to pass up on this saw and stand. I decided to take a gamble and make my first Ryobi purchase. I got the saw and stand home and set them up immediately. I changed the blade to a trusty Diablo, which I do on every saw I purchase. The stand is nice looking with the black and grey paint and is really solid and sturdy. The saw feels sturdy and looks solid at first glance also. Out of the box my saw blade and fence were square and the laser was accurate. Even if that wasn’t the case, adjusting these things are simple and the instructions for doing so are clear. I started my first project (a patio table) as soon as it was set up and I am very pleased with how the saw handled all the cuts that I threw at it. Overall I am extremely pleased with my unexpected first Ryobi purchase, and I can honestly say that I don’t think it will be my last.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good tool, great price. I have needed to replace my broken miter saw for some time now. I knew I wanted a sliding compound miter saw as the last had no slide and a smaller blade that lead to irritating limitations. Would have gone 12” blade but my truck bed is full as is and I need every inch of space I can get. This one is light weight, works well (it has been put through the paces since the day I got it) took a little time to get the blade squared but it’s stayed true even with all the jostling around... I did throw together a base for using it in my truck bed that attaches with bolts... issues? Yes the brakes on the blade are on again off again as far as function... doesn’t seem to matter if it’s had heavy use or just one quick cut.. not sure what that’s about but I’ll be looking into it. Just gave the saw a thorough cleaning today in hopes of fixing the issue (thought it was build up) but no dice...

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Job well done, RYOBI I have looked at other available Miter Saws in all the price ranges and picked the 10 inch Ryobi sliding miter saw to be used in my shop. The features are equal to those of 'MORE EXPENSIVE' saws on the market. I have learned over the many years of working with tools that the real value in a tool is what it can do. The differences are in how a tool is TAKEN CARE OF and more importantly how it is SET UP and kept CALIBRATED from the beginning. I take the time to learn how to set it up and all the capabilities of the tool. I also determine what I will want the tool to do for my project work. This Ryobi model will handle anything I need it to do in my shop. The quality of the parts and design are top notch. The only thing that I did to my saw was put a new SPECIALTY blade that was better suited for the types of cuts I will be doing and will be adding other special application blades as needed [this should be done on any saw]. I have been impressed with and recommend all the RYOBI power tools, both corded and cordless. Treat your tools with care, keep them in good shape and 'TUNED UP" and they will work for you.

It is an incredible value buy if you can get it for the sale price. I upgraded from a hitachi 10 inch non sliding saw to make accurate cuts on trex decking boards that the non sliding hitachi couldn't do in one go. The sliding option is wonderful - very smooth. Fence and blade were square. Adjustments knobs are work well and stand up to use. The laser is not very bright, which is why I dinged it one star. Unless you are in good shade or working at dusk, it can be difficulty to see the laser. The blade is easy to change. If you are on a budget, this is a good little saw, but if I had to do it all over again, I would have ponied up and gone for 12 inch sliding with double bevel to make life a little easier. The ryobi miter stand saw for this is a must as well. I purchased this not on sale for around two hundy. a month later it was greatly discounted for Black Friday by almost a hundred dollars. I've seen it on and off sale for that price occasionally since then. It was probably my fault for not trolling the HD ads previously.
