A:  It’s not heavy at all. It is a little aggressive when cultivating but nothing that’s out of control. I’m a male, 5’8, 200lbs, if that helps too.

              by|Aug 11, 2022

A:  I would guess 8 - 10lbs..tops! Seems just right for around the yard tilling. Does a nice job around my flower beds.

                by|Aug 8, 2022

                  A:  Not heavy at all.

A:  The RYOBI 16 in. 13.5 Amp Corded Cultivator weighs slightly under 31 pounds. I haven't had to lift mine since I bought it because it rolls easily on its wheels. I consider it perfect for my "retirement" garden.

Q:Is this unit big enough to clear the grass and weeds in my 1500 sq ft front yard so I can reseed next spring?

                      Answer This Question

A:  It's not heavy enough to go deeper than an inch or so in dry soil. I had to add lead weights to it to get a bite into the soil. Very light weight.

                      by|Aug 9, 2022

A:  It is a great machine and very rugged but I think you would need something larger to clear that much area. The largest area I have cleared is about 60 square feet and it took over an hour. I have tilled a number of areas deep enough to plant small trees and shrubs. This machine chews up the very hard clay in my yard.

A:  Hello, Bobw - Thank you for your interest in the 16 in. 13.5 Amp Corded Cultivator. This tool cultivates a 16 in. wide path 8 in. deep. The distance you can cultivate with this tool would depend on the length of the extension cord you use.  Additionally, if you need further support, then a RYOBI Customer Experience Professional is here for you, Monday - Friday from 9 am to 6 pm (EST) when you call or text us at 1.800.525.2579 or through email or live chat when you visit us at https://www.ryobitools.com/support/contact. A:  Definitely not. It is only good for small beds with fairly loose soil.

A:  This machine is designed for tilling and digging into dirt at 3 levels---shallow,medium and deep.I think you may be able to clear weed & grass, but cut down first by a lawn mower to a minimum level, after which you need to dampen the landscape thoroughly the night before tilling.I used this machine to till on dirt that was clear of grass & weeds and it performed excellently with that so I would think you can manage the 1500" ft square yard OK given you follow those preliminary steps I already stated.

I needed to till my backyard for a large patio pour. Renting a proper rototiller is fairly pricy and I knew I’d need it more than a few days. I decided to buy this little Ryobi tiller. I can’t believe this thing got the job done. Hard dried clay, this thing bounced around and chewed it up in the end. If you’re looking to get the job done fast, this will not be good for that. If you’re retired and have more time than money, I don’t think you can go wrong. This is one tough little unit!

                                              Doesn't work on clay
Easy to assemble but doesn't work on clay at all. It was just scratching the surface and shooting the soil backwards.

The machine seems ok to work with, but labeling it a tiller I don’t believe is correct. We did use it around the perimeter of the house to put in a flower garden. To use it as a tiller I had to stay in one general area for about 20 min to tear up grass and get deep into dirt. Oh and the wheels are attached by a pressure washer. It came off and bent in the first 30 min. A company cannot cut corners like that to hold on the machines wheels!

Looked like a solution to our 200 square foot vegetable garden needs, although I was concerns about my wife handling this tool in our clay rich soils. Tried it out and found it works best by letting it move forward and the dragging it back. It would grab into the ground and self regulate its cultivating depth easily. It also self cleans without choking on any sod patches and the motor never sags. Included a picture of how she did in about 15-20 minutes. Great tool!

The tiller is lightweight and easy to transport. I purchased this model because it will only be used once a year and didnt want to diddle with gas. I did add some ballast. I would give 5 stars if it had some sort of speed control

Amazing Power for this little machine.
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] I am thrilled with this tiller. I live in upstate South Carolina where the soil is hard clay. I was attempting to dig up an area to install additional landscaping using a pick and a shovel. My wife saw my struggle and recommended I purchase a tiller. I researched a number of brands and decided on the Ryobi. It was a great decision. This machine is awesome and ate up the clay. I was able to prepare a 3 foot wide 18-inch deep area in much less time and with much less effort. In addition, it easily tilled the soil amendments into the bed.
