A direct answer please. 13 amp, I want to use a 100 foot ext cord, what gauge does the cord need ...

Answers

You cannot use a 100 foot extension cord with this mower per the Ryobi manual. The longest you can use is a 50 foot 12/3 extension cord. A longer extension cord will cause a voltage loss greater than the mower is designed to handle resulting in possible motor over heating and burn out.

Does it come with batteries and charger?

Asked by Carl May 15, 2019

No. It is an electric corded lawn mower. No battery. No charger. You plug an electric cord into an outdoor outlet and plug the other end into the lawn mower. That's it.

Just got my mower and it won’t start when I plug it in

If you are doing the start procedure properly and it isn't working, check the A/C outlet to verify that you actually have power. Any small appliance or lamp that you know is good will work for a test. All newer homes use GFI outlets on exterior outlets as well as in bathrooms, kitchens and laundry rooms. If there is no power, you may have tripped the protector and need to reset it. If it's an older home, check the breaker/fuse panel.

Can this lawn mower be when lawn is wet or raining

I would not use it on wet grass because it struggles with tall grass. I'm sure wet grass would make it work harder and stick underneath.

Not for cutting high weeds

Why won't this work with extension cord longer than 50 feet ?

Because of voltage drop in long cable runs. Here is an article for your reading pleasure: https://sciencing.com/cable-length-vs-power-drop-12184174.html

This unit is 13 Amps. It requires AWG12. The book Says 50 ft. I have used a 75 ft. on flat lawn for short period Of time.to reach the end of my yard. Has worked fine.

How much effort do we need to put to mow the grass? Is it too much?

Lightweight mower, almost no effort to push. If you have pillars, bushes and rock obstacles to mow around, consider a cordless mower.

Surprisingly not bad. My garden is clumpy, has a gradient, pot-holed and begging for aeration. #1 on the mower height gets you very close to the ground which will cause thatching if you're not careful. Since this is a push behind, it will be some effort up a hill. Being extremely light though, not bad!

does it come with bagger

Yes. The bagger is tricky to attach, but once you've figured it out, it works beautifully.

What a great value. This is super light weight but was easily able to handle my overgrown beach grass. If this only lasts two seasons it will still be with the investment.

I bought this mower because my old electric lawnmower finally died. I have a 1/4 acre city lot and I've used a corded electric mower for over 20 years, so didn't feel a need to buy a cordless mower. I didn't see any corded electric mowers in the aisle where Home Depot had all of the other mowers displayed, but luckily I found a stack (in boxes) of these corded mowers in a main cross aisle on sale. They didn't have a display model so I wasn't able to look at it until I got it home. My first impression was that it looked like a toy lawnmower. But I figured that if it didn't work well, I could return it. So I assembled the handle, took out the mulching block, attached the bag and an extension cord, and took it for a spin around my lawn. I was pleasantly surprised at how well it worked and how light and easy it was to maneuver! (I'm an old lady and I can lift the entire mower with one hand). Unlike my other mowers, this one is streamlined and it doesn't have any knobs or levers that stick out on the sides to catch on stems or branches in plant borders. It's also much quieter than any of the other electric lawnmowers I've used. In fact, I didn't even feel a need to use hearing protection. My lawn wasn't very tall, but this mower seems to have plenty of power. And I like the fact that it's easy to get into tight spaces. I guess time will tell if it holds up, but so far I'm impressed. I've owned other Ryobi products in the past and they were all well made.

Don't buy this thinking it's just like a gas lawnmower. It's not. Torque is limited so you have to go slower and may have to go over the same area twice. If you are patient, it does a good job. Cut about ¼ acre of 12 inch, wet grass. It completed task. See picture. I went way beyond the recommended use. I have a large yard that I let overgrow. The mower completed the task in about 2 hours of continuous use. My yard has heavy grass as well as areas of rock, wood and other obstacles. I went over everything. I hit rock and buried the blade in wood. I treated this mower like I would never treat something expensive. I wanted to put it to the test. I had a couple of issues that you should know. First, the mower stopped cutting a couple of times when I was the hardest on it. Apparently, there is a heat cutoff switch that shuts down the mower until it cools off. That happened twice on ¼ acre. After 10 minutes, the machine started right up and continued cutting. Second, after hitting numerous rocks and wood logs which stopped the blade entirely, I looked at the blade and didn't think there was much damage so I continued to cut. The blade seems to be quite resilient. Third, when cutting overgrown, wet grass, the cut material does not go into the bag. The exit gets clogged and you have to stop mower and clean out underside. After I cut the tall grass and mowed a couple of times on a normal lawn, I found the waste bag to fill nicely and have no problems. I have used this mower on my ¼ acre 3 times now. Since I started cutting normal, dry grass, I find the mower to do a good job. I think this mower is very much worth the money. I expect it will last for a few seasons, especially if I don't abuse it as I did on that first cut.

LIghtweight yet powerful. Easy to maneuver. Only thing I would suggest is a higher setting for cutting grass in the heat of summer. I like to keep grass a bit higher in late summer to cut down on water.

I've only used it once but it was a very pleasurable experience. I have a small lawn with a steep incline so this fits the bill perfectly. It was light weight, quiet, and easy to assemble. I look forward to years of using this without the maintenance requirements of a traditional gas mower.

50 ft cord at 12AWG is the longest you can go on this

Don’t know why Home Depot is recommending a 100’ cord/16 AWG. if you read the manual, this particular unit can only go 50 feet max on a 12 AWG. The extension Cord prolongator hole is tooo small to loop in the 12 AWG SIZED cord. So you’ll have to think of a creative way to keep the cord from tensioning. Grass catcher installation was extremely difficult during Initial assembly. But it seemed easier after the first dump. I purchased this because of its foldability. The cheaper model before this line won’t fold the top half of the handle. But folding completely down isn’t that easy either. It cuts like you’d expect a mower to do. I had 2-3 foot grass because of having 15 days of straight rain. It cut it no problem. Some people complain on that the power shuts off intermittently especially after hitting a thick/tall grass. I suspect it’s because they are using the typically available 100 foot 16 AWG extension cords. Read the chart carefully in the manual and get the right cord. If your plugs aren’t within 50 feet of whatever you’re mowing , better go gas or battery. This is a cheaply priced unit. But after calculating in the retail price of a 12 AWG cord, it may end up costing the same as a battery version.

This is a great mower. The handle makes it easy to carry to some uneven lawn areas. It’s lightweight and the bag or mulch is a huge plus.
