Is there a fuse in the 24v charger

Asked by Jerm September 23, 2020

Yes there is what I call a key in the area of the battery. It is red and is required to operate this mower. It is included.

I just bought this mower. The battery that came with it will not charge....the dreaded red and green flashing lights

Try calling Ryobi. They may be able to help you. You may also try calling Home Depot.

What’s the life expectancy of battery?

Asked by mr205g May 1, 2018

Thank you for asking, Mr205g. Since there are too many variables to be determined when measuring a run time on a battery (what tool you are using, what material you are trimming/cutting, how thick the material is, high/low speed, if material is wet/dry, etc), we do not have an exact run time available for this battery. I hope this helps and we appreciate your interest in Ryobi! -Keri

It is, but you would do well to buy another lawnmower. My batteries died after less than 6 months of less than normal use. Customer service was useless even though I was well within my warranty period. All they did was keep replacing my batteries every 6 months. Don't look for reimbursement because you won't get it.

How do you get the lights to come on

Asked by Shon September 23, 2017

No lights on the mower. There are LED lights on the battery to check the charge level. to activate those push on the button on the left. They will come on according on how much charge there is.

What kind of blade do I need for replacing my old one? Thanks!

So happy with my purchase!
[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] Bought this with the ryobi trimmer. My yard used to be a pain. I had a corded mower that was always getting tangled in trees and bushes....brought this home charged it up and was blown away. Cut my front and backyard for a joke....then had some fight left in it decided to give whipper a go at it too. By the end of it the grass was cowering in submission. Thanks Ryobi!

I like the battery-charged system and I find it very easy to use. It's super lightweight and is a breeze to maneuver. I am thinking, however, that 16" might be a tad too small for my lawn. I have to empty the bag three times for both the front and back yards. Of most concern to me is that the highest level (number 5) on the height scale of this mower seems too short. I prefer to cut and keep my lawn taller during most of the summer and this mower is cutting it pretty short even at the highest setting. I am worried about that. Also, there are sometimes grass trails even when the bag is not full, which is frustrating. I've gotten the best results when I've mowed the lawn in both directions (which means twice). I am also watching the top of the grass and wonder how sharp the mower's blade is. The cut does not seem precise enough, but perhaps I could sharpen that blade a bit. So far, I give my new Ryobi lawn mower a fairly good rating!

VERY CHEAPLY MADE AND NOT WORTH THE MONEY FOR CONVENIENCE. Bought this lawn mower from home depot only 1 year ago. After the first year of use the very cheaply built plastic handle bar brackets started to fold. With the plastic brackets not holding up, it put more stress on the handle bar joints at the bottom. The metal is very soft as well and completely bent at the bottom. Took it into the store to have it fixed under the "5 year warranty". They sent it out to Atlanta, took them about a month and a half to look at, called me and wanted $146 to fixed the brackets.

I live in Dallas Texas and my wife and me recently bought a house with a small front and back yard. Yards size is about 1500 sq. ft. total so when in was looking for a mower my options were pretty wide. I wanted a mower that was battery operated and compact for storage. My first love was a reel mower but in the end I didn’t get one because of the review. After about a month of research I get past my Ryobi curiosity. Reviews said that I would have trouble with battery life and battery overheating. Since I live in Texas I will be mowing in 100 degree heat so I was worried about it but in the end I purchased the 16 in. 40-Volt Lithium-ion Cordless Walk Behind Battery Push Mower with 2 Batteries. I chose this one because even if each battery last 10 minutes in 100 degree heat I should be about to mow my yards in 20 minutes using both batteries. The mower took me about 60 seconds to unpack, a couple hours to charge the batteries. And when I was finished with the first mow it took me 10 seconds to fold and store. It was very easy to push around the yard and when the job was finished my bermuda lawn was looking good. The cut was pretty uniformed and even though the bag is small, it was enough for my yard. When I picked the product up at home depot it came in a large brown box which says 2 things, 1) it was probably used and repaired then sold to me and 2) reviewing the paperwork, it says you can register your item by using the numbers on the box but I didn’t get the original box so how do I register my mower? Looks like I got screwed 2 times… should I pay full price for a used item? 04/26/2017 – it was kind of an unusually chilly day (60 degrees), it took me 18 minutes to mow. One battery was used, it lasted the entire mow and finished with half the battery remaining. Pretty good start. 5/10/2017 – again it was a nice day, cloudy and 80 degrees, it took me about 20 minutes to cut the grass. My first cut was low and this time I let it grow a bit so this mow was about tightening up my yard. Half a bag of clippings and finished with about half a battery remaining. 5/16/2017-The first day it was sunny and hot. Temperatures were at about 85 degrees, I cut about an inch off my yard. This was the first test to see if it could hold up to a very warm day, cutting some serious growth and collecting the clippings. I mowed for 20 minutes without an issue. No overheating but the bag is so small that I had to stop and empty it 2 times. 5/21-Mid 80’s temp, cut the front yard first then cleaned up the edges. Moved to the back and cut the rest of the yard. Total cut time was about 30 minutes and had some battery remaining. In the end I think this is a good mower if you have a small yard or multiple batteries. Never got to mow in 100 degree heat but maybe I will give an update in the mid-Texas summer. But for me it is an easy to handle, clean cut and the batteries works within my yard size. The bag is small but cut your yard every 3 days and let those clippings return to the lawn as fertilizer, problem solved.

I got this mower on October 20th. My mom insisted on buying me a new mower to replace the Fiskars reel mower I used all summer. That mower was not powered, and the blades needed constant adjustment. Throw in a record summer heat and a St. Augustine lawn, and perhaps you'll understand why my mother was eager to buy me a new mower. I was not interested in gas or electric mowers. (I am not mechanically inclined and I don't want to be bothered with gas/oil maintenance.) I researched a lot of alternative mowers, and this one stood out with higher customer ratings and the claim that it could handle St. Augustine grass. The mower was easy to assemble and easy to figure out how to run. I have a small yard (not tiny), slightly less than 1/4 acre. I went through 3 batteries and a few minutes on a 4th on the first use. The second time was a bit faster. It's quiet and easy to start and to push, which is a big deal for me in St. Augustine grass (that honestly, is mostly weeds). The only thing I wish I could change is that the highest cutting height is lower than I would like for my St. Augustine grass. The grass looks scalped--I guess I got used to how good the lawn looked at a higher setting with my reel mower. I am also not sure how well this mower will perform during the summer growing season. Of course, I purchased it at the absolutely wrong time of the year to really take advantage of the 90 days satisfaction policy. I imagine I will need to mow every 5-6 days during the growing season, which is what I was doing with the reel mower, and quite frankly, didn't mind that at all--even in the heat. I have submitted a photo of my husband with the mower. It is not technically an 'action shot' as he is unable to push the mower (he is very weakened from COPD), but he couldn't figure out how to take a photo with our phone. But you can at least see how flashy that bright green looks against our brown lawn!

Perfect Green Solution for Yard Mower
This mower is an exceptional product. It is the perfect solution for medium and small yards, especially for getting into tighter places. The battery life is phenomenal - we can mow a small back yard on 1/4th of just one of the two supplied batteries. It is lightweight and collapses with the simple flip of two levers, and can be carried with a built in handle. GREAT MOWER! No more cords for us!

Great little mower!
First of all don't expect to mow a big yard with this mower. It is only 16". Don't expect to mow a yard with tall grass and weeds. It is not designed for that. This mower is great for small yards with average grass height, not over grown. Takes about 20 minutes to mow my yard with emptying the bag 3 times. Very easy mower to use. My son doesn't want to let me use it. He had no problem with setting it up. Watch the video. Very simple to store or put in the back of car to take elsewhere. The only complaint I have is it doesn't adjust to a higher cutting height. My brother said my fescue grass shouldn't be cut real short but so far it's been ok. Comes with 2 batteries. I compared 5 different battery mowers and this one had a smaller battery than others. I am very pleased.

A great improvement
I got this to replace my deafening, polluting, difficult-to-start gas mower. I chose the 16" because I was afraid the larger one would be too heavy (I am small, female, and in my 70's), but in fact it's very light and easy to push even around curves and up gentle slopes. My only reservation is that it doesn't seem to cut quite as well as the old one, something that seems to be a feature of electric mowers in general. Apart from that (and it does do a decent job), I adore it. SO easy to use, so much quieter. It uses about half a battery to cut my lawn; since it comes with two of them, I imagine one could mow quite a large space. I even like the color. There was very little assembly and it was easy to do.

Loving Ryobi Battery Powered Mower
I have used a Ryobi 18V weed wacker for 5 years and love it so decided to try this product when I found I had an extra lawn to mow and did not want to cart my current lawn mower to the second house. This was easy to take out of the box and use. Since I am small framed, I liked that the 40 volt battery was able to easily fit in my hand. With my impatient nature, I was happy it came with a partial charge so I could get started right away. I have been used to a self-propelled mower in the past but I found this one very easy to push since it is so lightweight and did not even miss the self propelled feature. I have a very small storage area and love how quick and simple it is to fold the handles. The mechanism to fold the handles is truly a great design one click and done with no screws to take out. I especially love that this came with two batteries and that they are so simple to switch out. I have some very tall grass and this cut through it without any problems. I don't use the bag as it mulches beautifully. I just love not having to deal with gas or oil. Yay, no more Stabil before winter storage! No more spark plug to flood in the Spring! No more ear plugs because it is so much quieter. Since I can lift it by myself (it takes me two hands because I am a wimp but I can do it without much problem) so I may begin carting this lawn mower to my other house so I don't have to use the gas one. Congratulations to Ryobi on another great product with so many excellent design features! PS. One more thing, I love it when my neighbor yells out, "Hey, what are you mowing with? Is that one of those battery things from Home Depot? Your yard looks great!" Thanks.

Great for amateurs
I'm not into lawn care but I wanted to save some money working on my small yard instead of paying a landscaper. This Ryobi does that almost perfectly. It cuts well, although the motor tends to stop at height levels 1 and 2. Still, height levels 3 and 4 are certainly low enough to the ground to get the lawn looking decent. Bagging is easy as it gets (didn't try mulch) and the unit is very easy to move around and store. I did my whole back yard yesterday with one battery at near-full charge. I went back out today and did my smaller front yard and went over the back again with half a battery. If you're a newbie who just wants to get the lawn cut quickly with minimal effort, this is the way to go.
