Questions & Answers

Extension cord

What AMP extension cord is recommended for use with this Mower???
Asked by: tfbnc
The manual says the mower is 7A.. so the gauge of the cord will depend on the length you need it to be...I won't repeat the answers others have provided on that.. .I tried to take a picture of the Owners Manual for you. I am still "testing" the mower...have tried both battery and cord on St. Augustine mixed with "other". Will comment more later...but can say.. its light weight, seems more powerful on the cord, would be better to have more 18V 4.amp batteries than just the one with the mower.. for most yards (probably 3 qty. 18v 4amp batteries at least). FYI...I read Q&As on the Ryobi 20 inch 40V mower...and someone said that mower is 7A too.

16 in. ONE+ 18-Volt Lithium-Ion Hybrid Battery Walk Behind Push Lawn Mower - 4.0 Ah Battery/Charger Included is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 96.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Electric (Battery and Cord) mower 16 in. ONE+ 18-Volt Lithium-Ion Hybrid Cordless or Corded Lawn Mower Ryobi has made another great product. This lawnmower is very quiet compared to gas lawnmowers. It is nice not to have to deal with oil and gasoline. Plus, Its nice not to have to use a pull start. It is light weight. I included a picture of my husband holding it with one hand. I can pick it up easily and I am a small woman. Thus, it is easy to maneuver around the yard. If you have a small lawn area to mow this is a great mower. It comes with one battery, but you can plug two batteries into it for longer mow periods. It has an extension cord hook up as well. It has a mulching mode that works well and it has a collection bag as well. I've included pictures and a video. I've included pictures on how it starts. They have a safety mechanism where you push the center button and pull the lever. I like this mower.

The lawn and machine tools I bought ALL use a regular Ryobi battery!I appreciate the fact that Ryobi not only is forward facing, but also is backward compatible! After Dewalt "abandoned" me with not making "new technology" but backward compatible battery packs for my now old but perfectly functional cordless drill, I realized I wanted a company that DID think about their customers, past, present AND future. Ryobi wins! I didn't have any "old" Ryobi gear, but seeing how they make their NEW battery tech work in OLD tools, can't see going any other way, because someday my "new" tools WILL be old, and I expect Ryobi to CONTINUE to support backward compatibility! Some day when I have a little nuclear fusion battery, I expect it will STILL work with my old tools. Screw DeWalt!Other companies make cordless stuff, sure, but only Ryobi covers that gamut of type of tools (lights, vacs, lawn/garden, machine, drills, etc.), with ONE battery tech. I don't want different battery systems for each tool!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best of all worlds As an ardent advocate for anything electric, this is finally the mower that I was awaiting to be available on the market. Of course, this mower offers the opportunity to enjoy the many benefits of an electric powered unit such as: no need to buy gasoline, no risks of unfriendly spills for the environment, no fear of not starting (just push the button), no maintenance (just sharpening the blade from time to time), no heavy bulky thing to move ( much lighter than the gas powered ones), no toxic fumes at all, and no noise (much much quieter than any gas powered model.) On top of these well known benefits, this mower operates both corded and with the ONE+18 battery system from Ryobi. This is a tremendous upgrade from the previous generation as it finally makes it possible to swap batteries from your Ryobi nail gun or drill into the mower, which can take two (the previous generation required to use a specific 40V battery). This mower comes with a large lithium ion battery and a charger, which are both pretty useful. The mower itself is very easy to operate. There is a well thought key for safety to prevent any unwanted start. As for the cut, it is a pleasure to use this mower, it is very light and easy to maneuver. The mulching setting is particularly effective. The sound, a bit on the bass side, is so much less intrusive than any gas powered mower. There is a very useful handle which makes it super easy to move (with no handles, my previous electric mower was a real pain to move around compared to this one). This is a home run, wonderful mower, very well thought, with an unrivaled level of versatility. Highly recommend.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Hybrid mower Mower was easy to set up out of the box. It came with a battery and charger. What was nice with this mower is there is an extra slot in the battery compartment for a second battery. I happened to have a second one available to test with this mower. There is a safety key also located in the battery compartment, which is used for picking your power between corded and cordless. The mower obviously works much better on corded power. If you use the mower cordless, I definitely recommend a second battery. And even then, do not count on this mower to last front and backyard alone on just one battery. Even with a second battery, it may last a bit longer but still not long enough. Having your mower cut off 3/4 of the way through a mowing is not fun! There is really no indication of when the mower will cut out on you; it just stops. But the good thing is you can quickly attach a power cord and continue on mowing. Not being able to use the mower with batteries for front and back on a one time use is a bummer, but at least it offers that capability. Also, the mower does not withstand hitting big things; if it does it will almost always shut the mower down, and you will have to start the mower back up to keep going. When you're on corded power though, you can get through more tough terrain, although occasionally it will still slow down to a halt. The bag works well, easy to take out and empty. Overall, this mower is good for those with plenty of extra batteries for their miscellaneous devices, or someone with a small yard.

I owned this mower since summer of 2016 until this past week when my extension cord fused to the mower plug. Home Depot were helpful to have a new one shipped out quickly. In all the time I owned this I have a few complaints. When mowing for an extended time plugged in the mower will overheat and automatically shut off, which is slightly annoying. Mowing high grass you probably will have to go over same area twice. With two batteries plugged in I can mow my almost my entire front and back lawn which is about 75' by 75' give or take. This mower is noticeably more powerful plugged in than with batteries, so I recommend using a plug where available. The height lever is easy to use and the mower is light weight and has a carry handle on top. Overall I would recommend this mower for smaller yards and for not dealing with gas and oil.

I had been using corded electric mowers for years, and decided that battery technology should be ready now. Since I have Ryobi hand tools with a compatible battery, which have performed well, it made sense that I would be able to share the batteries between tools. So I put the battery that came with the mower and the smaller one I had from my hand tools together in the mower, and they don't last long enough to do my small yard. So what I do is to do the out of the way places and spots with trees/obstacles first by battery and then switch to the cord to do the rest. I am glad that I'm not dependent on the battery and can use the cord. The mower is smaller and slightly less powerful than my old corded mowers, but it is easy to use, maneuverable and easy to store. Maybe if both my batteries were full size, I'd get enough power to do my whole yard, but I don't feel the need to go out an buy another battery.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Cuts well, lightweight, no oil changes! I am very pleased with this Ryobi One+ hybrid mower. I received it last spring and used it exclusively on my yard in Columbia, SC all summer and fall. Out of the box, the mower was very easy to assemble: position the handle bar and hand tighten the nut-style things that hold the bar in place. The mower comes with one battery and a battery charger. I recommend putting the battery into the mower and using it until completely dead, then fully charge it, and do this every time to maximize the charge capacity of the battery. CON: One battery will not get you far and I feel that if Ryobi is going to design the mower with two battery slots, they should consider providing two batteries with the product. To avoid having to use a power cord with the mower, I stocked up on the Ryobi One+ 18v 4ah batteries. Seasonally, Home Depot sells a two-pack for the price of one. With 4 batteries, I was able to mow my medium sized yard. While buying more batteries means a higher up-front cost, it is my opinion that the cost evens out over the life of the mower versus a gas mower, especially since I won't have to service my mower once or twice a year. In addition, I have other Ryobi One+ tools, so I use the batteries in other products as well. PROS: * NO EMISSIONS, NO MAINTENANCE. I can't really stress enough how much of a selling point this is to me. The mower uses rechargeable batteries. There are no spark plugs, no gasoline, no oil, no air filters. There are no gas/oil fumes, just a moderately quiet hum of the motor. *The mower starts with the push of a button, first time every time, and I don't have to yank my arm out of the socket pulling a rip cord. * The mower has a handle that allows you to pick up the entire mower and move it around - and it is lightweight enough for a fairly petite woman to do it herself. * Due to its lightness, the mower is extremely easy to push and maneuver, even up slopes and over bumpy ground. * There is a lever that changes the wheel position of all four wheels at once and it moves smoothly and without straining. For my grass (centipede), I used the highest and second highest positions. * There is a mulching insert and the mower mulches very nicely. However, the mower also comes with a bagging attachment for when you want to bag your mowed leaves or grass. I have not used the bagging attachment because the mulching function works so well. * If needed, you can use an electrical extension cord to run the mower. I cannot comment on use of this feature because I only used batteries, but it is a nice option if you run short on battery power or prefer not to buy more batteries. * Easy to clean. I only mow DRY grass, never wet, so when finished mowing, I simply used my Ryobi One+ blower to blow off the dirt and grass debris from the mower. Remove the mulching attachment and use that space to blow under the mower. NOTE: my mower had an issue melting the side connections on my batteries. The mower has a warranty, so I reached out to Ryobi and they sent me a new mower and replaced my damaged batteries. They even shipped me an empty box to return the old mower because they care about quality and want to examine the defective mower and figure out what happened. I highly respect this company!!
