differences between the hammer drill (P213) and the impact driver (P236)

Will this tool (P213) be also able to fasten and loose bolts and nuts or would I still need to get an impact driver like the P236 for that?
Asked by: lackknowledge
Thank you for considering Ryobi. Impact drivers are mainly used for driving into wood. You can use it on things like deck screws. You can also use them on bolts and nuts, however, the torque is not adjustable. A hammer drill is can be used for drilling or driving into harder surfaces such as concrete, brick, but it can be adjusted for wood drilling and driving as well. The torque can be adjusted. If you are looking for something to just loose bolts and nuts, you may be more interested in an impact driver. We hope this information helps in your search!

Customer Reviews

18-Volt ONE+ 1/2 in. Cordless Hammer Drill (Tool-Only) is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 35.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Medium to light duty user I am the maintenance supervisor at a fairly large church campus (8 buildings on 15 acres) most of our buildings are brick construction so I need a hammer drill to mount and repair things around the church on occasion. This drill is convenient and powerful enough for my purposes. I use it about once a month. I don't know how many holes it will drill on a good charge but it drilled four 1/2 in holes 2-1/2 inches deep in hard concreteand still had plenty of reserve power to do more. I have a 3/8" VSR drill and an impact driver that use the same batteries so I am happy with their performance in daily use. I would recommend this for light to medium use...I don't know how it would work for real heavy use but it might do just fine.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good hammer drill for the money Overall I've been very happy with the Ryobi One tools I've purchased so far. I needed a hammer drill for my project and I decided to take a chance on this drill. Drilling a dozen 1/4 inch holes in some 4,000 PSI concrete was no trouble for this drill. I chose this drill mostly due to the fact that I already owned some One tools. It drills fairly slowly into concrete - it probably took about one full minute of drilling per 2.5" deep hole. Compared to an SDS drill, I believe this drill is pretty slow. The trade off is that I can use this drill as a fairly powerful backup drill if something happens to my main drill. Overall, I think this drill is a great value. If you're a professional mason, you might consider a corded SDS drill. For drilling occasional anchors as a homeowner I think this drill is a great choice.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Nice inexpensive hammer drill Overall this is a solid performer. It drills well in just drill mode and hammer drill mode. There is a mode to limit the torque for driving screws but i don't use it. It has plenty of torque in either range, be careful if the drill binds up. Run time with Ryobi's 4 amp hour battery is great, and poor with the lowest ni-cad (mine are old and not in great shape, just to lazy to get rid of them). The chuck works nice and tightens down well and is easy to release too. The way the handle attaches could have been a little better, it looks and feels a little cheap. You can see the plastic in the drill housing get stressed if you tighten it too much. The drill depth stop actually works pretty well. Helps get a little extra life out of masonry bits, by not drilling deeper than you really need to.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Sparky I worked construction for 41 years and used every brand and size of hammer drills. Hilti makes the best drill, expensive though. This hammer drill is fair for small home projects. Buy good masonry bits and don't drill on high speed, bits will heat up and become dull.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Another favorite! This drill is used by me to drill small holes in concrete floors to attach carpet track strips and metal transitions. It does very well, slower than my plug in Dewalt, but powerful enough to leave the corded tools in the truck!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good drill I bought this drill to put up shutters. I needed to drill 12 holes into brick wall. Worked very well. Quality seems to be excellent. I am happy with this drill. I have the 18 volt battery that can be used on a variety of Ryobi tools. It worked on one charge easily. Home Depot has always been a good store to shop.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good value for the dollar This hammer drill is a good drill for the money. It drills holes in concrete, with the appropriate carbide tipped pits of course, quite easily and quickly. It by no means is a commercial product, but will quite readily suffice for the average homeowner. I have no reservations recommending this drill.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from NICE COMPACT HAMMER DRILL BUT CHUCK COULD BE BETTER I purchased this last fall but had my first use of it today. I had to drill a series of holes thru a concrete driveway to install poles for a chain link fence. I drilled 12 to 15 holes in a 3+ inch circle and sledged out the middle so i could install the poles. (A total of 40-45 drilled holes 4+ inches deep, to create 3 holes for the poles.) This unit worked great for the first 5 holes then the 3/8" bit came loose. As I found out, I had to keep re-tightening the chuck for every hole. Other than the chuck issue, I am very pleased with this hammer drill. I did not attach the handle or use the depth rod, so I cannot give info about them.
