My question refers to the 4 1/2 in Angle Grinder.

Very light use only. This thing overheats after a couple of minutes. I consider it useless.

I knew this product would not perform like my 120v 11amp 4 inch grinder nor my high end 7" grinder. But I knew that going in. Does it eat batteries compared to the other tools in the Ryobi line up? Yes, but the other tools are not running for so long at any one time. Does it perform as well as the brushless Ryobi, not quite....How about one of the high-end named brand cordless versions, no. So why did I get this? Because at 44 bucks it is a fraction of those other units and still allows one with a couple of 4ah batteries to cut off some materials on the fly. I did this the other day in the rain where i needed some scrap off an old defunct storage sculpture; I sure glad I didn't have to drag extension cords out to the location and make sure all of the GFCI boxes were all working. This fills a welcomed niche in my garage.

The only issue I have with it at this time that, when using the tool as a metal cutting tool, it overheats the battery rather quickly. The tool then shuts down and you have to wait a fairly long time before the battery cools and recharges. That extends the time for the job. I had to revert to an older electrical powered tool to accomplish the job in a timely manner. I have not used it simply as an angle grinder, but I am sure the same apply. If the tool gets into a tough situation, the battery will over heat.

I came to this page hoping to find an amp rating for this device (which I didn't find), but figured I'd leave a review while I'm here. This grinder is incredible for the price. I wasn't expecting much from Ryobi when I bought my first One+ tool, but they continue to surprise me. At a recent job I needed to cut through 200 linear feet of asphalt, and having forgotten my circular saw, and having no other options, I decided to give this thing a try. It did it. I was only able to cut just shy of 2" deep with it, of course, but it was enough to break the asphalt off, and break it off clean. I managed this job on 5, 4ah batteries. The lithium+ batteries make all the difference... the black batteries that come with some of these tools aren't worth powering more than their flashlights. Over the 200 feet of slicing through asphalt, the grinder got HOT... real hot... and I FULLY expected it to burn out at any minute, yet it never did; in fact, it still works as well as the day I bought it. Great tool.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Was not designed to equal performance of an AC angle grinder. Convenient and light-duty. Before I bought this, I read about the excessive power consumption and short run time. I found those claims to be true regardless of the battery capacity or model number: P108's, of course, lasted longer than P102's. That said, this tool was not designed to replace an AC angle grinder. It was designed for small jobs and convenience, i.e. to save you a little time by not having to dig out the AC grinder to do small stuff. It's portable and can be used remotely without a generator and extension cord: just another beauty of cordless tools, eh? To expect it to be or do anything else is unreasonable. Buy it to make your work-flow on a project go smoother and quicker. I use this primarily to remove burs and rough edges left by my 14" cut-off saw. It's very nice for rust removal prior to welding and mild grinding afterwords. Also handles short, thin-metal cut-off jobs nicely with the right wheel. The tool to change wheels is included. It slides into a slot in the handle. 'Camouflaged quite well:-).

The only complaint is that when reading the instructions, there were a lot of terms I was not familiar with and no pictures to help out with what the instructions were trying to tell you.

I've had the corded one for some time but there are a lot of times where running an extension cord is just not practical so with this battery powered one it's truly portable for use anywhere. And it uses the same 18 volt batteries as many other Ryobi tools that I use. I love it! Definitely recommend.

I cut a long piece of solid steel rod ~3/4", into 3 lengths and a metal sign post also into 3 lengths. I only lost 1 bar on a 4Ah bat. Maybe because I didn't push it and let the blade do the work. ?

As soon as I I unboxed it, I installed a fully charged battery and tested the operation. It seems to work as advertised. I have a fairly complete assortment of the Ryobi 18 + one battery operated hand tools, and all work great.
