Hi DrGonzo, For a precision cut I recommend circular saw and straight edge. You can do it with the jig saw or osscilating tool also but the results might not be the same depending on your skill level. You need to purchase additional blades for the jig saw if you decide to go with it. Make sure whatever saw you decide to use has blade that can cut through wood and nails otherwise you will mess up the blade and the cut. The other option is to try and remove the nails if possible. Make couple of test cuts to get comfortable with the saw and follow safety rules. There are good videos on youtube that can help you out. Hopefully that helps.

Will this charger and battery work with a P5231 Jigsaw? Thanks

Short and sweet...Yes it will All of their 18v devices use the same battery type...universal fit. Run time is dependent on the amp of the battery you use.

How much power in watts does the charger need to charge 2A battery? I need to size an inverter.

The charger pulls up to 50w so I would plan for that amount.

Excellent product idea. My father in law bought my a Ryobi combo tool kit about 15 years ago. It had the old 18V NiCad batteries. Over time the batteries just couldn't take or keep a charge and the kit was shelved. Then this new Lithium battery and charger came to light. It still fits and runs all of my tools in the combo kit! I have now taken it to the cottage where just one battery will suffice all of my needs. No other brand has this great feature. They want you to buy all new tools too! They all should be required to follow this leader in battery powered tools!

Great replacement for my 40-year old Craftsman scroll saw. First use was with a 24 tpi blade to cut a 1/8" thick metal decorative ring for my wood burning stove stovepipe. Worked great and did the job where a hacksaw couldn't be used. Next step was to cut a copper sheet background which the jig saw made quick work of. Got the jig saw as part of the June 2020 Ryobi 18-Volt One + promotion. T-style blade was easy to insert and lock. A nice switch from my 40-year old Craftsmen corded scroll saw that has seen a lot of use over the years. The Ryobi Jig Saw will now be my go-to tool for jig saw work. The jig saw is part of my ever growing group of Ryobi tools both corded and cordless.

Does not cut straight lines
Set up the jigsaw to do test cuts. Could not cut a straight line. Every cut turned to the right, not matter how hard I tried to stay on the line. Turned the saw over and noticed the blade was turned the the right. Removed the blade and reinstalled straight. Ran the saw without cutting and turned the saw over to look at the blade and it was turned to the right again. Returned the jigsaw for full refund. I'll be looking for a new corded jigsaw from a different manufacturer.

Defective Assembly
Very disappointed with this product. On my first cut, the blade veered noticeably to the left. I thought it may have something to do with the pressure I was applying to the saw or to the guide I was using. Checked all my measurements, went to make the cut, and once again had a noticeable veer left. When I inspected the blade, I noticed the blade was now bent slightly, and I assumed that the blade that came with the saw had been of cheap quality. I ran out to Home Depot and got higher quality blades with the right TPI for my project. Got home, set everything up, checked my measurements, applied slow and even pressure.... and once again, my cut goes left. This time, I took the blade out and inspected further. Turns out that the guide assembly is out of alignment with the toolless blade clamp. These things are designed with a small spring in the guide assembly to allow a bit of lateral motion, which is what allows you to make curved cuts. But in my jigsaw, the spring is overloaded to one side, so there is no give to the right. Conversely, the guide assembly has plenty of give to the left, so every time the blade encounters resistance the guide assembly veers left. Very unhappy, as I've now ruined some good wood and had to complete my project with some poor workarounds.
